That's business as usual isn't it?

To rub salt in the wound, Carter closed the incident by accepting a pitiful amount of cash from the Israeli government. Something like $5 million. No even enough to replace the ship, never mind compensation for our servicemen.

Does the government owe us a living?

That depends on who you think owns the country. Is it a nation of the people as in "We the people". Or is it a nation that belongs to those who personally own most of the land and the means of production.

If this is a nation of the people then the general welfare of the people should be at the top of our to do list for the government.  But, from what I see, the nation is actually owned by those who, through their wealth, control even what they don't personally own.

Since those who own the means of production are able to shop for cheap labor anywhere on the globe the American laborer has become redundant and therefore of no concern to the nation. That is why the administration empaneled labor haters like Alan Simpson  and Erskin Bowles to recommend budget cures like cutting Social Security and medicare.

According to our present government, NO! The quicker most of us blue collar guys die, the better for controlling the deficit.

The results of yesterday's election tell me that war will be with us for the foreseeable future.

Well, it's your world, EPK. I'm too old to expect to see the end of the neo-feudalism that we have adopted. The people have spoken and they are stupid, stupid, stupid.

Why would leaving Iraq and Afghanistan be a defeat? To not reach a goal there first needs to be a goal. Our stated reasons for waging these wars are so changing that they are flat bogus. Why are we spending lives and treasure for some undefined reason?

The real reason for this eternal war footing is to put money in the proper pockets. That's it. Period.

When we finally realized that the only way to win in Vietnam was to kill all the Vietnamese we , thankfully, pulled out. What bad happened?

Nothing. Except for the wailing of the hawks over their perceived loss of face.

If we just packed up and left the battle fields of the mid-east there would be a period of chaos while those countries purged themselves of our puppets. Then they would go back to their version of normal life.

F**k prestige and power. These wars make us all flunkies of the ruling class. I would rather the U.S. become a good place to live. You can't spend national arrogance at the grocery store.

I agree. Our wars in Iraq and Afghanistan have no positive sides. I also think strengthening  our borders is a waste of funds.

Our blind support of Israel is another mistake we keep making.

War in Iraq: no justification or benefit to the average American.

War in Afghanistan: Once Bin Laden was allowed to escape there was no more reason to be there.

Support for Israel: A thug government that even attacked and killed Americans (USS Liberty straffed by Israeli Airforce. Over 50 American Navy men dead.)

Building up our borders is a deversion. American business makes money hireing illegals. Putting a few business owners in jail would do more to cut illegal immigration than putting a million more Border Patrol agents on the border.

The existance of these conditions is proof that our government is being run for the benefit of a few and the rest of us are paying. As long as the populatioin remains ignorant nothing will change. I don't see voters getting smarter. Maybe Tuesdays election will prove me wrong. But I doubt it.

That's what happens when you have a political party that is so fractured that they can't open their moths and state their accomplishments.

The progressive Democrats could fit in a VW. The Blue Dogs need a bus. If the Demos don't purge the party of  right wingers they will fade into insignificance. If they haven't already.

Too bad the Demo leadership doesn't think the Repubs mean what they say.

Obama is still talking like he thinks the Repubs will compromise or enter into bi-partisan negotiations.

If all SS did was pay retirees you would be right.

You are forgetting the survivors benefits. There are a lot of kids going to college because of SS.

Keep the trust fund in Government bonds. When the gov defaults it's all over anyway. In 1980 gold was $800/oz. A couple years later it was down to$400. Not a good investment. it will happen again.
