The question is What else will he cut...what will the result be....it requires identifying at least in NUMBER ...the Commands and facilities he would eliminate...the impact in savings and the potential setback in security and economies...

He won't do it....but he's ok with saying that he did...and we all know the word for someone who claims to have done something and OBVIOUSLY has not..

Both my Aunt and her husband died from "Cancer"...some decades ago...it was odd that they both succumbed to the same form of lung cancer when NEITHER smoked and neither had a family history of Cancer...

Watching my Aunt struggle valiantly and with so much grace was the greatest tragedy of my youth...she had four sons and she would not "Go easy into that good night"...for the need to be with them as long as she could...This represents 1 degree of separation and yet I conceed I know relatively little about cancer....I know great struggles and the finest examples of courage that life exposes.......and frankly...its as close as I ever want to be...I support St. Jude's Hospital and have since the '70's when I was living just outside Memphis,Tn.

Being a SPORT Junky. I can see Jimmy V in my mind's eye as clearly as if he were standing in front of me...and I wish I'd known the man...I wish I had a minute to be exposed to the man's SPIRIT....But he reminds us that we are surrounded by people who we should take an extra minute with...We have to give..not just this year..but every year..until this thing is over.

I read your reply...and YOU DIDN'T ANSWER THE QUESTION.....and you won't....because that would involve FACTS and FIGURES you've NEVER HAD....and effort in supporting your opinion is something you expect of others but would NEVER bother with for your own....You've decided to imply that you're European....though your Bio says that you're from Florida...this is a DODGE...because I don't care where you're from ..I don't care what perspective you gain from receiving unnamed European periodicals...you still have not and WILL not support your position...

I repeatedly correct your assertions to the point of concession... and yet you continue with general criticism and bleak prognostication as if the validity of your inspecific and indefinite HOPE for the future means anything ... I tell you there are a myriad of examples of F,W & A we could pursue...you ignore it....You want to push your position...FINE...

You are right, the military has been the source of a great many advances...they've also been Guinea Pigs for a lot of experiments that weren't so beneficial....I could expound on your point but it just makes it sound like sugar to cover the taste of a bitter pill.

Dutch has valid complaints but Dutch's problem is that he can't help but offer derisive generalizations that would be LIES if I thought he actually knew what the truth was...He's learned that relying on others to provide links and substantiation is how to debate.

I'm not willing to jump through hoops When he has not provided any VALID facts to support his position ...

My question to him is What will you CUT...Will we leave Europe?..Korea? Japan?. Which ships, Squadrons, Battalions...Which Hospitals, Which Submarines?...How Many Nukes...What force strengths will we reduce to?...and What cost will we recover?....

The fact is, Dutch has NO CLUE Where to begin...nor how far to go...What will be the financial gain nor what the impact to our Nations security nor to the security of our Allies...He has a complaint...but he expects someone else to tell him the solution...He is the perfect counterpart to the TP Conservative...

    @ Dutch

You take the topic beyond its logical limits...We aren't the reason THEY act in the manner they do ... that is a CHILD's motivation....and MONEY.. is made in a lot of ways...by people who care NOTHING about RELIGION or Nations or SOCIAL/ECONOMIC/GOVERNMENTAL constructs...

Let's just suppose that a Country essentially dissolved..and what was left was a portion of its former self...so that under the guise of a LAWFUL election...an ORGANIZED CRIME leader took power..The organization that he is the head of...is NOT the COUNTRY that he heads up...it is the Syndicate that he leads not the Nation that he is loyal to.....He maintains APPEARANCES...while his organization guides anonymous groups to accomplish his maneuverings by PROXY...

Now let's assume ...lest you were under the impression I was referring to Msr. Putin...that there was never a particular Country nor the dissolution of a Nation...nor even a single individual ultimately behind it all....

You continue to THINK ONLY in terms of NATIONS and RELIGIONS...as if they were a CONSTANT and ultimate motivators...which makes your view no more enlightened than the "Flag Waivers" The predictability of a US response is not nearly as obvious as the actions of individuals who believe in 40 virgins upon death....

If one is NEITHER a descendant of Abraham, nor a member of a International Convention...they can play with the pieces on BOTH sides of the CHESS BOARD.But You assume that this thought has never occurred to anyone else...that the fact that we did respond proves we weren't mindful of this scenario...

Since the mid 1980's we have reduced the Military to less than half it's size...we even had a fomer Secretary of State/Secretary of Defense offer the concept of Army 'Lite'...What he ultimately proved...was that we cannot reduce force strength any further...that we must tackle the restructuring of our Military....The EXAMPLES of the past are not portents to the future...they occurred under completely separate social climes...economic constraints and cultural identities... and accepting the premise that this is a different animal than we have heretofore faced means that you can't project the appropriate response any more than History can.

I don't always waive a flag...there are times...when I actually find myself standing fairly close to you ...but You have a CLOSED MIND...and I cannot be that person...

The Earth is roughly 24,000 miles around...its surface topography varies in height/depth by just about 10 miles... the predominant elevation is called Sea Level ...Depending on your views on CREATIONISM (I'm guessing you aren't a fan of Jimmy Swaggart or Pope B-19)..we've occupied and taken advantage of the Oceans and Seas for tens of thousands of years...Because man tends to be fairly aggressive in endeavoring to control his surroundings...NO small amount of Battles have been aided/fought as a result of understanding and mastering it..

Much more recently and closer to home , so to speak...An establishment of a maritime force was made..it was the Continental Navy est. Oct 13, 1775. This actually was debated... and both sides of the debate accepted that there was a NEED but also accepted that there was a cost that levered the need....in the end it was considered to be not just a NEED, but an OBLIGATION...mostly because some lawyer/poet/writer kind of made it that way when he wrote:

"We, the People, in order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, ensure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common DEFENSE, promote the general welfare and secure the blessings of Liberty for ourselves and our posterity..."

Yes I know..."Flag Waiving" and I'm sure you'll say the Constitution is dead...Justice Antonin Scalia actually expounded on that line of thought when he spouted, "....it is DEAD, DEAD, DEAD!!" Are you a 'Scalian' Dutch ? And of course, in your mind, These were warmongers and suretymen who's sole aim was to create financial gain for themselves...But a great many people believed that there was a greater purpose...beyond the goals of the rich.

We really didn't get much ..4 Ships in fact..... Eventually there was a WAR, but my bombarding of information tends to put people off...so I'll skip ahead.... You'll have to look up who won on your own.

It turns out that we became quite good at international commerce...Well...we already were...we just had our own country now...but about 19 years later when our Navy had pretty much been allowed to languish and rot and the only NEW ships were those we TOOK from other sources......An incident occurred that FORCED the US to make fundamental changes to the manner the country's Navy was run...and of course it was the result of a rich man looking at losing alot of money...

Again, in the interest of abreviation, there were some Pirates...The French telling us they were not gonna get involved and our Oldest Ally, the English...well, they weren't our NEWEST ally yet.... Long story short...We kicked the Pirates ASSES and the US Marine Corps has been singing about it ever since.....

...OH, and on March 27, 1794 Congress enacted the Naval Act....so that the US Navy will NEVER be allowed to fall to such an irresponsible state of disrepair...

Everyone must ask themselves and ANSWER for themselves what we gain..it is a debate that started nearly 240 years ago...You have a right to your opinion..and you always will....you have a right to petition the government to STOP spending so much you have a right to do what you're doing now...and have an open discussion where NOTHING more comes of your words...

ISIS is trying to create a response...Our return to Iraq is What they want...and "THEY" are backed...so cutting off their funding is a bit of Propaganda...the trail of money is a winding road with a whole lot of side-streets... If any impact was felt it was in ISIS' attempts to create NEW income...

ISIS isn't trying to establish a permanent home...that would mean taking off their masks...their mission is to create the reasoning for the US RETURNING to IRAQ...There is no GREAT NUMBERs in ISIS...there is no extensive leadership base...these are MERCS...and they're NOT homegrown...Consider the growth of organized crime in the US...it is SUBTLE and it avoids notoriety until it is firmly established ...ISIS isn't trying to slink in through the back door...they're kicking down the front door...and they're COUNTING on "USEFUL IDIOTS" to continue speaking about them...
