Colin Powell, Republican Secretary of State under George W. Bush, speaking at the North Carolina CEO Forum blasted Republicans for their voter suppression laws recently passed in the state and signed into law by Governor McCrory, who also spoke at the Forum before Powell.
"I want to see policies that encourage every American to vote, not make it more difficult to vote. It immediately turns off a voting block the Republican Party needs. These kinds of actions do not build on the base. It just turns people away."
"You can say what you like, but there is no voter fraud," Powell said. "How can it be widespread and undetected?"
Powell said the new law sends the wrong message to minority voters. "What it really says to the minority voters is ... ‘We really are sort-of punishing you."
Will the mindless North Carolina Republicans even care what message they are sending? If you can't win on policies, then cheating is okay.
