There is a story in circulation concerning a Rodeo Clown who donned an Obama mask during his time in the arena and mocked the President , he has subsequently been banned from performing at all rodeo's for life, anyone have any thoughts, punishment too harsh/ is this a free speech issue?

I heard that he was only banned from all rodeos in the state of Missouri, but that was a few days ago.

All presidents are mocked and made fun of, but since Obama is black you have to consider the racial issue which has not been the case in the past. There are unflattering masks of EVERY recent president, and I didn't think it was a good thing to do, but to ban him and take away his livlihood if this was the first time he has done this, seems too harsh. If he was told to stop and then continued to do it, then yes, ban him.

I thought what the announcer said was worse than what the clown did.

I don't think what either one of them did was in good taste but not so bad that they should be fired. Another example of the PC police at work.

Far too many people are far too eager to find something which offends them.

I've always been a bit suspicious about rodeo clowns. There's a couple who hang out in my
neighborhood and frankly I don't trust them.
    Ditto to what jamesn said.

I can't believe we have a post about rodeo clowns....

Tony it's not like this forum was being overloaded with other topics lately...

And speaking of clowns, I don't trust any of them, but to the guys on top of the bulls, these clowns are their best friends.

I wonder how much these rodeo clowns get paid. They are not just a bunch of idiots who walk in off the street, they are a pretty integral part of the rodeo. These guys save lives.

I thought I would get more conversation regarding the First Amendment, granted President Obama is the President ,but he still is a public figure and as such is often held up to ridicule as are many other politicians, I can remember Clinton masks as well as masks for both Bush Presidents and no one was ever punished for their comments or actions, is this really PC run amok or is there is something else at work here?

    PC police run amok.

Just imagine how bad the reaction would have been if this happened a year ago, as we entered election season.

You think this clown has a potential lawsuit?

    final segment

Rodeo Clown update. Internet says median wage of a rodeo clown is $51,000.00 per year. However..... if you get your card..... you can work the big rodeos and work maybe 40 rodeos + per year. Then you can make 6 figures. Talent is a factor in the pay level.

I am somewhat torn on this for a variety of reasons, but my main issue is the fact that this was a publicly funded event. I would be far less concerned if this was a privately funded event, but taxpayer dollars paid for this stunt.

The subtle racial tones behind the act of our President being chased around by a bull should not be dismissed out of hand. I've read multiple articles where witnesses said the whole thing seemed more like a KKK rally than a state fair rodeo. These fairs are supposed to be about families and kids going to have fun, not to indoctrinate a new generation of children.

Tony I bet that a survey of bull riders would say that the rodeo clowns are worth the money. They put their own lives in danger every time they step into the ring.

Jared neither of us was at the event, and maybe it was like a KKK rally and maybe just a bad joke gone wrong. I bet there are many witnesses and many different accounts of what it ..."seemed like"... I wonder what sources are reporting that it was like a KKK rally?

Different sources have different agendas. I bet Fox and MSNBC would report it differently and maybe each with a variety of "witness accounts" to back up their story.

I still believe that this event was blown way out of proportion, I mean come on now ,we can't investigate as to why a U.S. Ambassador and three other men were killed, but we go after a rodeo clown for gosh sakes. Give me a break!

Why they were killed ? I bet it had something to do with the fact that lot's of bullets were flying through the air at high rates of speed. When that happens, people often die. I know, if we had more, bigger, and better guns....... everything would be just fine. I bet the repub's are going to run in 2016 on the platform of Democrats being weak and responsible for the tragedy in Libya.

Tony I am SURE that the repubs are going to run on the tragedy in Libya. And the IRS. And Fast & Furious. And the NSA scandal. And Obamacare. Especially Obamacare.

    Did I forget any? Probably.

"What difference, at this point, does it make...?" We will hear that one about a thousand times.

Tony, why the sarcasm "Bullets flying thru the air at hjgh rates of speed", because of the so-called cover up, it is now being discussed that the attack was because of Arms shipments conducted by the CIA to Syria and also that the shipment of several hundred Air-Air missiles were lost during the incident, this why I was asking the question why ,what reason was the consulate under attack, if it was because of the arms shipments, I could understand the why this occurred, but to blame on it a video that nobody saw and claim that it was a spontaneous mob reaction to that video is just a insult to my intelligence, this Administration is leaking creditabilty like the Titanic, and just a little truth at this juncture would be a real breath of fresh air.

Missouri is a little backwards in the rural areas of the state. Yes, racism exists and I can see many in fairgrounds and in the rodeo stands getting hostile on Obama. I believe it was a joke that went foul and beyond the point of mutual respect for another human being and especially the President of America. Many that approved of the clowns antics and the rodeo announcer's actions have some of the lowest education levels in the country. It doesn't take much to get a laugh from them old boys, they were born that way. This whole clown incident at a state fair is way out there in the media and shouldn't of had the exposure it did. Because of cellular services, texting and tweeting, America will get more of this crap from some of the lowest brain mass of the country. It's not just Missouri, more states will be media events soon.

This weekend starts the Lawrence, Kansas historical event and celebration of Lawrence being burned to the ground in 1863 by Quantrills Raiders. A brief view of history on this subject is the "Jayhawkers" would sneak over the Missouri border to rape, pillage and murder Missourians. A Missouri preacher got a bunch of riders together forming a vigilante group calling themselves the "baldknobbers" and headed by Quantraill. Now don't believe that the war was over slavery, which Kansas proclaims, because black riders rode with Quantraill. Kansas got what it deserved and it is one of the great stories to repeat each football and basketball season especially when KU meets MU to battle on the gridiron. However, historians love this part of American history and are now celebrating the little war in the middle of this country. This is just one example of how we folks in the Midwest are part of some brainless fools, educators and cooler-heads mixed together.

So when a cowboy clown puts a Obama mask on and an announcer gets the crowd in a frenzy to humiliate our black President, so what, it's what we do. We were born that way. Isn't that a song?
