I'm assuming there is a consensus that big money gets people elected and not the voters. Corporations need to get out of the business of financing campaigns.

Individuals need to get out of the business of financing campaigns for at least presidential elections.

You take MONEY out of the picture and then the candidates are accountable to the man and women on the street. The voters and not to this company or PAC.

Well, who will PAY for it? It is a media campaign. The FCC OWNS the airwaves. They have to 'donate' air time to Public Service Announcements, Emergency Broadcast system. Why NOT elections?

And yes, Fox and msnbc would have to find something ELSE to talk about in order to sell advertising during an election cycle. Maybe legislation that was passed, pending, sponsors for it. commentary on the merits of the bills, But it would have to be FACTUAL or be forced by the feds to be retracted and every other news outlet can re air that retraction order as much as they want. It just seems STRANGE that it is legal to slander and libel a political candidate but you can be sued if any individual or corporation slanders or libels an citizen. I did a jaw drop when CNN gave Perry a quadruple pinochio. That was a first for me.

I always wondered if I could say I was a representative of the Nazi party, Communist Party, Hamas, or KKK and this candidate is OUR BOY we want in Congress. Circulate petitions to elect this candidate to represent White Supremacy in Congress. Taint them so they simply are not electable. I can legally do that but it just doesn't seem right... They would have to spend their AD time saying they will have nothing to do with that endorsement. In some ways, though, I like that idea. Negative ads are proven to work. I could probably raise money from the real Nazi Party and KKK to make sure my candidate does NOT get elected. When the KKK says I am not one of their members and don't represent them, just ask which candidate do they endorse? The no answer, answer confirms the suspicion that he really IS their candidate.

A $50 cap for donations that have to be from individuals personal checking account AND put in an blind account where no individuals can be identified or tracked.

To run for office, you need enough signatures on a petition. Includes primarys. Those candidates get a fixed amount of air time. Personal ADs for them. ADs against their opposition. Use it any way they want but then it is over. Then debates broadcast. Then the vote.

Unfortunately, the Supreme Court says it is an infraction of the first amendment, tantamount to censorship, to prohibit individuals, PACs, groups, corporation from buying AD time of their own. I feel like there is some working room here without infringing on the 1st Amendment. Like time frames before the elections. They can buy all the time they want 16 weeks before the Presidential and Congressional Elections. Anytime after up to the next election. Ample opportunity to express their first amendment rights. They would have to play an Ad that would "stick" in peoples minds on election day.

Then there is the social media. No restriction on that BUT restrictions on MASS Media pretending to be individuals.

Then the question is how to we persuade congress to pass that kind of legislation to change the status quo. No more going to work for lobbying groups and corporate PR persons after being in congress. Just won't be so lucrative after office. Maybe we would elect public servants....

Sure, great suggestions, but I have bad news. This never will happen, neither term limits. Sorry to say it is impossible to unseat the lobbyists and their billionair buddies, unless you are a billionair yourself and wants your own demise. This country is in the grip of "money" and "money" talks.

Sure this can happen, right after I find the Pot 'o' Gold at the end of the rainbow.
