Jack Kerouac is one of those authors that seems to come around at the exact right time. Post World War II America was a powder keg of racial tension, a rebellious youth, and soldiers trying to assimilate back into society after seeing the horrors of that terrible war. Jack Kerouac was well aware of that and wanted to give a voice to those youth out there that were trying to find their place in American society during the craziness that was the Cold War. While Jack Kerouac was not the first person to write about The Beat Generation, he was able to encapsulate it in a way that no one has before or since.
