"I'd tell them forget about all them profits and help the country. The media should be a public service. You cannot have a democracy without an informed people, and that should be their rule. They can make their money everywhere else."

Helen Thomas' take on the media consolidation by a small number of media conglomerates for the purposes of making money, in an interview with Democracy Now! She was clearly against it, and I couldn't agree more.

Helen Thomas, 92, died on July 20th, 2013. She was a journalist and reporter for over 50 years. She was a well respected White House correspondent and known for asking the tough questions that many others would not. Thought I would recycle some of her sentiment above... Rest in peace, Helen.
