Benedict Arnold is a name synonymous with treason in the United States, but were his actions really that unexpected?

Benedict was a good and solid general, but he was constantly overlooked by the Continental Congress and his peers. He was rarely given the recognition he deserved. Without Arnold, the revolution would have been lost in its infancy. That, combined with the fact the Patriots were not winning the revolution at the time lead to Arnold to turn.

Whatever the reason, Arnold's name is etched into American history books as a traitor. I have never met one person named Benedict.
