When I owned a store, and closed it and sold stock at a loss, the IRS challenged my tax return due to what they considered irregularities. I met with an IRS agent, explained the hows and whys of my situation, and was not only cleared, but received a refund.

Isn't it possible that the groups screaming about unfair treatment against Republican "charities" and the "donors" to them claiming tax exemptions have been challenged because of large numbers of irregularities, and the actual monies apparently spent on political propaganda, calling it "educational"? I find it hard to believe that ads against Democrats, and specifically against President Obama, are not educational, especially since many were inaccurate and/or outright lies! I would bet that their lies go back to their original applications for tax-free status.

Additionally, they asked Democrats for donations with their pretense. What arrogance!

I, a registered Democrat, was receiving email requests for funds for Citizens United, using language that sounded as if they were a Democrat organization. I had already discovered by accident that they were Republicans and were targeting other Democrats for donations! I gave this information to my immediate "in charge person" who told me that they were donating to both parties! Soon afterward it became clear to everyone that Citizens United was indeed a Republican organization.

I don't think our President needs to answer for the IRS. I think Some Republican Organizations have a lot to answer for, and their loud demands are a cover-up for their own misdeeds.

I think the bone of contention is that so many groups, not necessarily Republicans although the republicans were the most investigated, and they were not actualy denied but they had prolonged the process whereby many just gave up seeking the status, it was said that all new Tea Party applicants were handled by the Cincinatti office by one person, which probably lengthened the process even more, I think these types of gamesmanship are played out by both sides, depending who is in the majority, so I don't know if its illegal or not but I do believe its about gamesmanship.

You're right! This all nothing but absolute BS. Some overworked (thanks to Refublican Congress cut backs) trying to do their job and they end up getting nailed (to the cross)!

the Tea Party, of all political groups, should be investigated first. I have NO problem with this non-event, personally, but what do I know?

We don't know if this is ..."all nothing but absolute BS"... or not. Hopefully the investigation will tell us more about that.

Apparently it's not a ..."non-event"... to the president because he fired the Director of the IRS today. Or maybe he resigned...yeah of course he did.

I would think that the IRS should come clean and the sooner the better. This is the Obama administration, not the Nixon administration.

Benghazi just doesn't seem to be catching on so over reacting to everything will be the norm. Should be a humorous rest of the term.

...overreacting to everything will be the norm"... absolutely right, the Repubs are going to throw everything up against the wall to see what sticks. Right now they think they are getting some traction out of the IRS story so that's what they are going to expend the most energy on.

The best thing will be for the IRS to come completely clean and get the story behind us. They've already thrown one body under the bus so that's a start. They need to do whatever it takes to clean this up and move on.

And there's the problem. If the Repubs throw anything nobody expects it to stick. It be a credability problem and throwing stones ain't the best way to fix it.

It now has been brought out that Acting IRS Commissioner Miller was scheduled to leave in 3 weeks anyway,as his intrim term was up. This where these guys screw up, (Obama's advisors) by making this decision to sound as if this man was being relieved/fired for his action or inactions over this soon to become a scandal, all they have done was to erode just little more creditbilty on this President's tenure, why? to save their own asses of course.

Right johnny, this guy was just a sacrifical lamb, a token gesture. Now the administration can beat their chests and show us how "seriously" they are taking this whole affair. Miller was just the guy in the wrong place at the wrong time and at the end of the day he was just roadkill.

Miller may or may not have had anything to do with the misconduct, but it didn't really matter, did it? We can all feel better that our government has taken important action to correct the problem.

Just to clarify, Douglas H. Shulman, a George W. Bush appointee, served as the IRS Commissioner from March 24, 2008 – November 9, 2012, when most of these transgressions occurred. Steven T. Miller has been the Acting IRS Commissioner since November 10, 2012, but before that he was the Deputy IRS Commissioner under Shulman. So he was directly in the chain of command during the targeting, and I would surmise must have had knowledge of the activities. Otherwise he would not have been fired.

As Acting IRS Commissioner, yes Miller would have stepped down when Obama appointed a new candidate to the post, but Miller's reputation has been tarnished so he could not do his job with trust even if he continued as a deputy again.

The sad fact is that now we don't have an IRS Commissioner or a Deputy Commissioner. So when President Obama nominates a new commissioner, will that appointee also be blocked by the Senate? I don't see the Senate Republicans approving anyone except perhaps, Grover Norquist, and even he could be filibustered.

we may never know just how much good this President might have done if not for the foot dragging by the minority party, which BTW is always expected, but I would never have thought that his own advisiors would constantly and consisently try to cover things up when it it was not neccessary to do so, it appears that most times the Parties are at some type of war with each other and also they seem more concerned with who can come up with the next best gotcha moment,

Most of us would agree that the Republican outrage about the current scandals is "much ado about nothing".

Today's column from the New York Times editorial board gives a good explanation of the facts on all three of
"Obama's efforts to deceive the public":

The "right wing media", naturally take a much different view:

Creating phoney scandals is the major Hobby of the right wing GOP. They will do anything to obstruct our govt and prevent Obama from getting his true agenda done. I believe that insidious constant harrassment of the President is "treason" and those guilty of such, should be removed from Congress, due to violation of their "oath of office" - (to protect the Constitution), which says they are elected to represent "we the people" and NOT to represent the likes of Grover Norquist. And the Clown Circus should be permanently retired to Ringling Bros Retirement Home.

Why the Tea Party & their "ilk" should be investigated more completely, not only by the IRS, but also the FBI, is due to their membership consisting mainly of the lunatic fringe. For instance on the Tea Party Patriots website a few days ago, one of their members had posted that "he wanted to get rid of Obama -- that socialist Muslim %?$#&ist "b*st*rd" etc and the sooner the better." (I sure hope that guy gets a whole lot of tax free privileges for belonging to that nutcase group :) Robt Welch was right when he said the inmates would soon be running the asylum.

When the GOP was in charge of the nation & taxation, they certainly "went after" any anti-WAR group in the USA, and they spied on US citizens, who had done nothing wrong, except follow the words of Jesus Christ who said "blessed are the peacemakers for they shall be called the children of God."
It is "ironic" that the GOP consistently present themselves as being "true Christians" but they seldom even know the meaning of the word. The total pursuit of the Presidency by Mitt Romney this last year, by telling millions of lies & spreading false rumors, & following an agenda of absolute greed, while attempting to destroy our "democracy" as we know it. That certainly was NOT the actions of a true Christian man. But then, maybe it WAS. Maybe he screwed things up so badly (on purpose) so that he would LOSE, and the absolute best man would WIN, -- Prez Obama!! (Maybe?)
