Americans are hated all over the globe just because of this; are'nt you surprised that we have to spent other billions just to protect ourselves because of what we do worldwide. I do not think for a minute that because of the payout we are any safer here. Sure Karzai will float in wealth while the rest of the poor population who sees that hates our guts because of that. Then on top of that we have the drones; which create even more hate. So our foregn policy is fantastic. No if any more bombs etc. are exploded here than we are the cause of it, no one else, as already stated by a high UN representative.

Sometimes we literally have to "buy" influence in a certain region or certain country."jamesn" In other words you think it is the right thing to do? May be you are right, corruption is all over the place, but are'nt we the one's who refined this great invention and are able to use our tax money to do so? Sorry to say these CIA guys belong in jail.
Does anayone think that other countries don't do the same? Sometimes we just have to outbid them, that's all.
As far as corrupting other countries, we are far too late to corrupt other countries in that region of the world. We may be raising the level of corruption, but they have been corrupt for far longer than America has existed.
Dutch I never said that under the table payoffs to dictators are ..."the right thing to do"... On the contrary, I think it is the WRONG thing to do. I merely acknowledge that it happens and has been going on for a very long time. If it is news to some people, then they have a very limited view of reality.
Example: you pay off a warlord in a region of Pakistan or Afghanistan to not attack your supply convoys. It is the most economical way to do business and saves many lives on both sides. Is it ..."the right thing to do"...? Depends on how you look at it. Sometimes the thing that makes the most sense is not the ..."right thing to do"... Once again it is just reality which is not always pretty, and life is not always fair.
You say that..."these CIA guys belong in jail"... and I say there's LOTS and LOTS of US government people who belong in jail.
You say I am ..."pointing finger at others"... and I say I am acknowledging reality.
..."Americans are hated all over the globe"... of course they are and Americans are loved all over the globe, too. Remember, I have lived on many parts of the globe, as well.
..."Karzai will float in wealth"... sure he will until we cut him off them he will take the money and run to Switzerland, or London, or somewhere else to live out his life in luxury if someone doesn't kill him first. You see Karzai may be a brutal dictator but he's OUR brutal dictator. Just like Mubarak was and like many others were and are.
This is just reality, the way things are and have been for a very long time.
Are some people just now finding out the truth? This stuff is pretty much common knowledge.
