On the news today, besides the never ending Boston saga, The CIA gave Karzai himself (Afghanistan) millions in cash; wow!! I thought we were broke and could no longer afford air traffic controllers or teachers. May be we should ask Karzai on our knees to "loan" us the money for that and throw in some free "white" stuff, which we will pay back later. My question is; are we only satisfied in the end that we succeeded to make every country corrupt including ours? Congratulations; does Obama have blinders on or are the "bangs" (which he showed during the WH dinner) hanging in his eyes. Comments?

The only "news" about this story is that it came out publicly. It is widely known that the CIA has been doing this for a long time. Sometimes we literally have to "buy" influence in a certain region or certain country.

Does anayone think that other countries don't do the same? Sometimes we just have to outbid them, that's all.

As far as corrupting other countries, we are far too late to corrupt other countries in that region of the world. We may be raising the level of corruption, but they have been corrupt for far longer than America has existed.

"jamesn" In other words you think it is the right thing to do? May be you are right, corruption is all over the place, but are'nt we the one's who refined this great invention and are able to use our tax money to do so? Sorry to say these CIA guys belong in jail.

We have a funny concept of democracy. Corruption, closed door meetings and hidden agendas are not part of a democracy that is for the benefit of all.

I like to add; what you are doing is pointing fingers at others; we are doing that all the time; should n't we start to look at ourselves first and change this mentality as an example. Americans are hated all over the globe just because of this; are'nt you surprised that we have to spent other billions just to protect ourselves because of what we do worldwide. I do not think for a minute that because of the payout we are any safer here. Sure Karzai will float in wealth while the rest of the poor population who sees that hates our guts because of that. Then on top of that we have the drones; which create even more hate. So our foregn policy is fantastic. No if any more bombs etc. are exploded here than we are the cause of it, no one else, as already stated by a high UN representative.

    And let's add to that.
Bangladesh factory falls apart and it is revealed that inspections don't take place due to corruption. And who is doing the paying? Why that would be the clothing sellers. They think they insulated themselves using contractors who used subcontractors but the population can see through that just by seeing who sells what they make.

I said in the eighties that if we mandated that companies operating overseas in any capacity treated the workers like they did here then we would be loved the world over. But of course, even minimum wage was too steep a price to pay where only profits matter.
Think short term, lose long term.

Yes; this is good addition; only one minute news on this and weeks of news on Boston 3 verus 390 killed. But keep the $5.- old navy jeans coming via another chanty town factory. In the meantime we are handing out money to corupt leaders and Obama is (was on century link news) contemplating to start a new war with Syria; thanks to pressure of Mc Cain and Lindsey Graham, so they can fill their bank accounts again with war lobby handouts. Be proud of these characters; they love our country for sure. Sometimes I say to myself I should stick to by just taking a nature walk and only think about being glad to be alive and lucky not being part of this corrupt bunch. But I think that they via Romney already bought a place in heaven for sure.

Dutch I never said that under the table payoffs to dictators are ..."the right thing to do"... On the contrary, I think it is the WRONG thing to do. I merely acknowledge that it happens and has been going on for a very long time. If it is news to some people, then they have a very limited view of reality.

Example: you pay off a warlord in a region of Pakistan or Afghanistan to not attack your supply convoys. It is the most economical way to do business and saves many lives on both sides. Is it ..."the right thing to do"...? Depends on how you look at it. Sometimes the thing that makes the most sense is not the ..."right thing to do"... Once again it is just reality which is not always pretty, and life is not always fair.

You say that..."these CIA guys belong in jail"... and I say there's LOTS and LOTS of US government people who belong in jail.

You say I am ..."pointing finger at others"... and I say I am acknowledging reality.

..."Americans are hated all over the globe"... of course they are and Americans are loved all over the globe, too. Remember, I have lived on many parts of the globe, as well.

..."Karzai will float in wealth"... sure he will until we cut him off them he will take the money and run to Switzerland, or London, or somewhere else to live out his life in luxury if someone doesn't kill him first. You see Karzai may be a brutal dictator but he's OUR brutal dictator. Just like Mubarak was and like many others were and are.

This is just reality, the way things are and have been for a very long time.

Are some people just now finding out the truth? This stuff is pretty much common knowledge.

And another thing Dutch you are right about America wanting to ..."keep the $5 old navy jeans coming"... and guess what it's not just America. All rich nations do this to the poor nations, and that means all of western europe and yes even your Netherlands is part of the problem.

America leads the way, no doubt, but lets not pretend that other countries don't contribute to the situation.

You may want to take that walk now.
