With volunteers currently working in 68 of the world's most troublesome countries, the Peace Corps is one agency that uses the power of America for the greater good throughout the world. The organization, which was originally created by President John F. Kennedy's executive order on March 1, 1961 and then passed by the US Congress just seven months later, uses America's vast wealth and resources to promote social and economic development in some of the most dangerous parts of the world.

When so many things are going wrong in the world, it is important to remind ourselves of some of the good that we do as a society. These volunteers sign up because they strive to help some of the worst off in our world and often risk their lives to do so. They have helped countless individuals and governments throughout the world in a variety of things from education to economic development. It goes to show that there are still organizations and individuals out there that care deeply about the general welfare of the world. It is, in my opinion, the greatest thing that America has ever done in promoting our true ideals.
