Should this site expand the topics to include things like hobbies, music, etc. We Democrats are far more eclectic than are the Republican folks.

    Just a wondering.

No I do not think a hobby like "tea parties" should be part of it; neither collections of butterfly's or baseball cards or horse manure.
Personally I think it should be things which are related to our daily life in relation to the people we elect. I'm guilty as wel,l to once in a while to poke my nose into something like "religion" which as a matter of fact should not be an issue on this site unless it is interwoven with politics. Therefore if people go to far on this subject I get nasty. This site should be solely to express idea's to make this government run the way democrats view and want this. We should let our opinions be known if our party deviates from what we thing is the right way to put any legislation in place etc. I do not think like right now that for instance on the "gun" issue we get all kind of explanations how gun "x" works in the army or gun "y" how long its barel is and how the bullets look like. this is pure BS. We are right now in a "non" election mode and should show our opinions on for instance what is happening in our "travel" world because of stupid legislation, 1000 delays per airport per day; guess how much money that cost because of stupidity. etc.etc.

It's my hobbie to rain on the Republican and Tea Party parades. It's no surprise to most who read my "stuff", I am totally anti-anti-republican and only anti-tea party. I'm giving the Tea Party a chance, but they are loosing much my support with their stupid acts of pushing an agenda that is too agressive to my freedoms. I want Gun Control. I want better Health Care, which the current Obama-care rising is just a start. I want Social Security for all and not some dumb politician calling it an "entitlement". Entitlement has a bad connotation or sound to it. I want to keep a all voluteer Armed Forces with veteran benefits that support our wounded coming home. I want funding of repairing and improving America's infrastructure. I want more funding to our schools and Universities to give America a level playing field on all jobs and not relying on immigrating scholars from other countries. We need to provide a future for our children in America not from India, Pakistan, Europe, and China. I want better education to our youth on the dangers of drugs and bad things that can be absorbed into the body.

I want a June Cleaver and little Beaver lifestyle, back when you could allow your child to ride a bike miles from home and know they will return safely. I want freedom to mean something other than having a right to own a semi-automatic street sweeper shotgun (25+rolling masgazine). I want polticians to be wise and humble working with other politicians without calling each other, "liar".

I realize I'm asking alot of fantacy in a world that exists only in our imagination, but we must have goals, realistic or not. The music I hear is the some of the most dumbest things you can hear from the Republicans and Tea Party. I laugh and enjoy the comedy of clowns in DC and is all good music to hear. I'll give Bush some credit, not much, but whenever he passes someday, I imagine a Doctor opening up his brain cavity and finding a squirrel cage and the squirrel is missing.

    Hey Gems,
I think your idea is great. For instance, I saw a show on television that I thought was way better than average but thought I can't bring it up here. Trust me, we have discussed how we spend too much on defense and how the govt. would be crazy to try to limit our access to guns in every way imaginable. I would welcome some diversity. I belong to another msg board where on the intro page they have 3 sections. One for the main topics, one for misc. posts, and a third for something kinda topic related. I think it's good to have different options.

The reason I thought of it is because all the folks I know have cool hobbies like HO trains(not collecting, building) and big music collections. PBS is hated by the far right but loved by big bird fans and Nature fans.

I’m a little weak on poetry being more knowledge of the works of Harold Bond and Shakespeare.
As this is political it seems proper to stay with politics and religion as they have become one.
What should the function of the government be?
Are we now the aggressor, rather than the peace keeper?
    Capitalism v Democracy
Is the Constitution a complete document? Was it left vague on purpose?
Does the Bill of Rights limit our freedoms?
Is bankruptcy being used as a money maker by the wealthy?

......me thinks GEMSWOVEN may be conspiring to move our Lit and Wit to persuade us in forgoing the troubles we see.

Yes, it can be disturbing to read the venom in these posts. I enjoy the intellectual responses that have the backgrounds to grind out the truth from all the mistruths. Thanks to all of you that keep our posts on the main track. There is so many problems in our political state of the country from a Do Nothing Congress, poor media productions of our politicians, and a covert media that spends more energy on lies that exposing the truth.

We who post these responses to topics are shell shocked, disgusted, dissatisfied, and down-right mad at how America's being managed. We do not trust big business, religious groups, political parties, governments and police authority. We only rate as one, but we do have vote, so we try to muster anybody to help in believing the right to vote may save us. We keep trying each election as we win some and loose some. We are at a disadvantage from the enormous wealth of those that can buy politics, but we have numbers and someday numbers will overwhelm the wealthy in this country.

I wish I could sound off on cats, dogs and birds. I did see a t-shirt I wanted as it had on it's front,"I EAT CATS". Of course it had a small picture of a catfish, but cat lovers would cringe when seeing it. There is humor in other topics that warms the heart, but I cannot forego my posting on politics, religion, support for the armed forces, humanity, and those damn Republicans. Maybe GEMSWOVEN can get topic postings from the Hari-Krishna or some other careless for the world types. I care too much that I want change. I advocate change. I march for change.

I would like to see more activity on the site. Thus the idea for change.

Gems I have to agree. News Flash, there aren't 50 brilliant people on this site. Some evenings I visit and what I see is seriously lacking. The same, same, same old topics being beaten to death. The topics are good but we all know who thinks what on this site. If some can't see the site expanding then it's sad. If someone posted about a good book that they read (that's happened) or a good book that they wrote (that's happened) you can ignore a topic that doesn't interest you. Diversity may just welcome new members. The old topics just welcomed the religious fundamentalists. I hope more members can open their minds.

Yes indeed as I said above, there are not that many interesting topics; if so they are already beaten to death. I also mentioned in one of my threads that I've got the feeling we only horse around within the small group as you mentioned, but to my feeling have no influence whatsoever on any Party or any Representative. We just only talk in circles amongst ourselves but does not materilize into real influence on our government; even my "snakes in the yard" give me more response. Michaels tried to sent letters to the White House; response just about zero. Therefore we as a very small group ( the energetic once's) are wasting our time if we continue on this path. The best thing would be if everyday our comments would lie on the doorstep of our elected representatives and they are forced to read it. So my question is: is this an old ladies club with the cherry glass in the hand and the cat in the lap or are we writing only for the cat's ass?

Actually Dutch, I wrote to the Whitehouse also saying I thought the Palestinians didn't get a fair chance versus Israel. It was about 4 months ago. I received an e mail from Washington 2 days ago. It was more or less a form letter. It was nice to finally get a reply though.
I seriously don't think this site matters in the bigger picture of politics. I bet the WH has a very low paid staff member reading it. There only instruction being report it if you read anything dangerous or threatening.

Gems, There must be other sites on the Net where the topics you're interested in can be discussed. I think that the inclusion of them here would mean the end of Democratic Hub as a political forum. But you did make me think of a way that perhaps this site could be made much more interesting....As it stands now people are using it to vent what they already believe about the political parties and the issues attached. They are not looking to be convinced of an opposing idea. Much of what we read is emotional, and just plain historically wrong. It might help if posters were made to back up their ideas with reasonable arguments. It might help if the subjects were opposed, or agreed with, in logic fashion by others. As it is, it seems no one, or very few, people change their minds on an issue after reading something here on Democratic Hub. Perhaps the managers of this site could develop a method whereby statements could be challenged or debated in a civilized manner.

Tony, that is exactly what I meant; I've been long enough on this site to know who thinks what. I guess this site does not serve a purpose other than letting of some steam off once in a while, but serves no other purpose, if it does not get outside to our representatives as a must read thing.
Should be something like "facebook" related to getting the attention. Right now I get indeed the feeling of an old ladies club; topics go and come, but do not lead to anything; we may be as well publishing a newspaper for the blind.

There is a major website update planned for mid June which will include a streamlined user interface along with forum search. This means the entire look of the website is going to change and it will be simpler to use and have more documentation.

Our next immediate plan after this planned June release involves us replacing the idea of forum sections with content topics\categories only. So when you create a new forum thread you will only select "topics" via autocomplete tag\topic\category search bar at the bottom of the forum search. And no longer select the forum at the top. We outgrew that awhile ago. In addition, we will have an auto-save feature which has been asked for.

This future main forum page will show the most important threads based on different criteria such as how recent it is, popularity of the thread or popularity of the topic. You will also be able to customize the priority of how you view the latest threads and will be able to choose to ignore future ones or make certain ones a higher priority.

Anyways, this mid June release will be huge. We've been working on it for awhile. We hope it really improves the current member experience and sets a framework for us really adding some meaningful improvements in the future.

I will be actively engaging in the community after this release on the many different & exciting options we have for the future.

    Cheers,
    Kosko
