Mark Sanford is being accused of trespassing at his ex-wife's home and is being ordered to appear in court just two days after the special election for the open seat in South Carolina's 1st Congressional District. The former Governor's wife filed a complaint in court that accuses Mr. Sanford of leaving her home through a back door in the dark, with the aid of his cellphone.

Ms. Sanford stated that she was not trying to get involved in the race, but also will protect her children: "I want him to sink or swim on his own. For the sake of my children I'm trying my best not to get in the way, but he makes things difficult for me when he does things like trespassing." According to the former couple's divorce agreement, Mr. Sanford is not allowed to enter her home without advanced permission from Ms. Sanford. Mr. Sanford has not yet responded to a request for comment.

Mr. Sanford's quest to restart his political life has been bumpy and there is no guarantee that he is a shoe in for the open seat in this heavily Republican district. Elizabeth Colbert Busch has been running a great campaign and is holding her own in the most recent polling of the race. With only a few weeks to go before the special election, it is still unknown if Mr. Sanford will be able to explain his way out of this or if his personal troubles will eventually sink his campaign.
