It's not often that we quote Vladimir Putin (spelling ?) but, he was just quoted by reuters saying that if there is nuclear action/activity/war in North Korea it will make the nuclear meltdown of Chernobyl look like a fairy tale. Who knew they had fairy tales in Russia ?

Tony I don't know about fairy tales in Russia but I think he may right. As bad as the Chernobyl disaster was, it will pale in comparison to the death toll and damage if Little Kim is able to put a nuke onto Seoul which is only a few miles away. Seoul is what 10 million people?

Jamesn, good point! If such would happen then the US would be stupid to retaliate; such would make the fall-out even bigger. Also for "people" to be anywhere near such site, including our military would also have serious consequences ( radio active material all over the place in at least a range of a couple of hundreds of miles.

I agree. China would be directly effected as well as eastern Russia and probably Japan also. On the news this morning they mentioned that Japan is installing a missile defense unit. I wonder if Alaska would also get effected. The jet stream does travel to the east.

Russia has the same fairy tales as us. H.C. Anderson and Brothers Grimm were European.

President Obama recently ordered Secretary Hagel to move more missile receptors into Alaska and we have more than enough ships in the Pacific to protect Guam. Regardless of that, it would be a suicide mission if North Korea was dumb enough to launch a nuclear weapon at South Korea or anywhere else. For one, most analysts don't think that North Korea has the know how to put a nuclear device on a missile that will reach South Korea, let alone Japan or Guam. Even if they did, they would be guaranteeing their countries total destruction. I just don't see that happening.

I recently saw a poll that over 50 percent of American's stated that they don't think there will be a peaceful solution to this crisis. COME ON! This is a 28 year old that is trying to flex his young adult muscles. We are the world's great super power and seem to have become addicted to fighting countries that we can easily wipe out but then have no idea of what to do afterwards. Jon Stewart recently joked that we should just let North Korea say whatever the hell they want. They are addicted to the media attention and wouldn't ever dare to launch a strike on us.

Yes your last part is correct; they want attention that's all. Words are cheap, parades are for kids, banners for the circus, uniforms with plenty of stripes, badges, pins, tassles etc. for people who have an inferiority complex (also, too bad, applies here too)

And now someone in our military says NK may be a threat to us. Bang that war drum softly, at first.

No that is not the case, it is a threat to our cell phones, computer's, laptops and other gadgets as well as our Hyundai's etc. which are made in S.K.
S.K. was "freed" by the U.S. as with Vietnam, (which did not fly) to have a place for cheap labor for our gadgets; but afterwards we also succeeded in Vietnam to supply sportswear, shoes etc. So I do not think N.K. is a threat to us more like a threat to Walmart etc.

When you say about NK ..."they want attention, that's all"... that's only partly correct. Yes they want attention but that's not all. They want "free stuff". In past decades they make big threats and the west cuts a deal to give them "free stuff" if they will shut down their reactor, or stop with the threats, or promise to stop firing their missiles. They agree then collect their "free stuff" (food or oil) then go right back to their bad behavior. This has happened many times and this time they are not getting their "free stuff", at least not yet.

We have the agreement with SK that we will help defend against an attack on SK. If Little Kim is stupid enough to attack SK then the USA may get in the fight and THAT is the danger to us. I don't think anyone knows for certain what Little Kim will do. He's made a lot of threats lately and now the pressure may be on him to act. No reasonable leader would act, but I don't think he's reasonable. Has he painted himself into a corner with all the threats...?

"jamesn" sure you are right; it is exactly like as with little kids, they scream and yell in the Walmart until they finally get the candy they want.
But this big kid of 28 probably was never in a stroller let alone in Walmart and probably never tasted a candy; So what should we do with this kid?
I guess give him a big candy; maybe he likes whoppers and hot fudge or invite him to a football game here, that may have effect.
