Kind of amazing: on 3/14 I wrote a "thread" under this topic which mentioned what the Dutch news said about this Pope's past. To my surprise it finally came on the news here yesterday. So what I said in other threads seems to be true, related to that a lot of news is "screened" or delayed here; otherwise this news would have been here the same day. I have noticed that with a lot of news stories. To add to that do not forget that a lot of top Nazi's escaped and settled in Argentine and surrounding countries; so that country is not as holy as it looks like. Do not forget that the catholic church condoned the killing of 6 million Jews (the Vatican was right in the middle of the Nazi axis) and blessed the wedding of Hitler and Eva Braun as well; neither did they get any poorer because of that.

Just a quick question Dutch. Show me the proof that the Catholic Church condoned the killing of the Jews. Maybe several of the officials at that time did, BUT CERTAINLY not the entire Church! My parents were Catholics living at that time, and they certainly never gave one iota of support to Hitler's onslaught, so I know there were at least 2 Catholics here in the U.S. that didn't condone the killing. Thus I don't believe you can say the Church condoned it, IF you can show me the proof, but just like ALL other humans on this Earth, those officials were sinful if they did support the killings.

Apparently most of the then civilized world turned a blind eye to what was happening in all of those Euopean countries at that time, not just the Roman Catholic Church, and people should realize that although the Jews bore the brunt of the extermination policies of Nazi Germany, it wasn't just Jews alone that were slaughtered, many political disidents were included as were many mentally challanged and other ethnic people who were also murdered. Man is a weak creature, whether he is a Pope ,a priest, or just an ordinary church goer, he will at sometime in his life commit some type of evil or let some type of evil wreck its havoc on the innocents of the world without a lifting a hand in defense of them, I believe in a Judgement Day,some may call it karma, but all sins will be someday be reckoned with.

Michaels; I am amazed; both my parents got killed by Hitler's extermination system; they were Dutch christians, but did hide a lot of Jews in underground bunkers on their land they got gaught doing so. I was born there and still see in my mind, when I was a tiny kid all the blood when they beat up my dad.
The catholics never did anything to stop any deportation of anyone in the Netherlands. Amsterdam had a lot of Jewish companies like New York, they all got murdered. No you better read some more about your church; Do not forget Mussolini ran the show in Italy and had full control of the catholic church. or did you forget the Vatican is in Rome? I'm so surprised that most catholics refuse to see the thruth about their church; it is one big "facade" ; sorry there is a lot of blood on their hands throughout the centuries, do not forget that. Why do you think this church tolerated that in WWII? they got paid for their silence with Jewish gold stolen from the Jews by Hitler and Mussolini; it is that simple. Legal cases are now still being held about this.
So do not tell me what the thruth is; you have no idea.!! Why do you think the catholic church in Europe is in decline?

The Roman Catholic Church is in decline not just in Europe but also here in the USA, the greatest increase in that Faith is in the emerging Nations on the African Continet, this why during the recent Papal proceedings some thought that a Cardinal from Africa would be chosen. Dutch: I am sorry that as a child you had to witness the horror of those times, so I won't even try to make some comment on why you have such strong feelings about certain Christian religions or any religions for that fact, I hope some day you will find peace in your heart and not meaning any disrespect ,but I will keep you in my prayers.

Johny, thank you so much for your understanding; I'm not against any "people" who have any religions; it is the institutions who run it;he same applies to "michaels" he and is parents have perhaps the greatest integrity in the world, but it is the institutions who ruin it also for cincere people.
My point as an atheist is that anyone in this world is free to believe what they want to belief; as long as it does not create wars, greed, hypocracy, or force things onto the broad society. Since this is a "discussion" site all kind of"opinions" can be voiced and reacted upon. Therefore sometimes controversial items may pop up, which at least gives it a bit more "juice".

I like to add to this: You must be clear that I'm not talking about you or your parents;, I like your "threads" so do not get me wrong. I only agitate against the institutions; not against the people, who are just believers and do not run the show. So I hope I'm clear on that.

As I said a couple of times before man is weak , so given that fact there are very few men who can resisit the urge to lead, dictate, or supervise other men, although it can sometimes lead that man to lower himself to think that as a leader he is better than those that chose him to lead,or even worse he has all the answers to all of their problems and to complicate it even further ,they believe him, both of our political parties are like that man, they don't consider us ,the citizens, in their decisions about changing our way of life, instead they deliver lies, sound bytes, and various power point demostrations to show us that their way is the best way, that way they always spend more time denigrating each other rather face the issues at hand and they won't spend the necessary time to resolve the problem. Talk about kicking the can down the road, these guys raised that practice to a whole new level, daresay almost to a science.
