It was announced today that John Oliver, correspondent for "The Daily Show," will be taking over the reigns as the show's host while Jon Stewart takes the summer off to direct his first feature length film. Jon Stewart will be away for twelve weeks and Oliver will host the show for eight of those weeks.

John Oliver is one of my favorite correspondents on the show and he definitely deserves this promotion, even if it is for eight weeks. I can't think of one bit that he has done that didn't make me laugh and I'm sure he'll do just fine while filling in for Jon. Thoughts on Oliver taking over the show and how he'll fare?

I continually encourage people to watch the daily show with Jon Stewart. It is always funny and topical. It's our answer to Fox news with humor. How do I think John Oliver will do ? I don't know. He is very funny in his 5 minute segments but that's different than taking over the show..... I heard it mentioned tonight that Jon Stewart was taking a leave..... The possible problem that was mentioned was Oliver's heavy accent. It may be that some will think it's difficult to understand everything. I don't know if that will be an issue or not. We'll see.

although I'm going to miss Jon Stewart's rare humor this summer, I'm also looking forward to seeing "Rosewater" when it comes out ..
it's a film about the (fraudulent) 2009 Iranian elections, and could be as compelling a drama as Argo was ..

the murder of Neda Agha-Soltan in the aftermath of that election remains the most widely seen murder in the world:

if you've got the time, the HBO documentary about her is worth watching:
