Conservative Political Action Conference, March 14-16, Washington D.C.

Here is a partial list of featured speakers at the CPAC 2013:

    Kelly Ayotte
    Jeb Bush
    Eric Cantor

    Newt Gingrich
    David Keene (NRA President)
Wayne LaPierre (executive VP - NRA)

    Mitch McConnell
    Sarah Palin
    Rand Paul

    Marco Robio
    Mitt Romney
    Paul Ryan

    Rick Santorum
    Pat Toomey
    Scott Walker

    Allen West

So what can we expect with the above list of notable speakers? CPAC certainly doesn't speak for the Republican Party, but if some in the Republican Party want to "rebrand" the party, this certainly doesn't appear to be the venue that will launch that rebranding.

Two conservative gay groups, the Log Cabin Republicans and GOP Proud, have not been invited to speak at CPAC. Nothing's changed...no rebranding.

Chris Christie has not been invited to speak at CPAC despite being the front runner for the 2016 Republican Presidential Primaries. No one else comes close to Christie.

Kaili Joy Gray, AlterNet, March 8, 2013: Former Bush Aid: Palin 'Not Competent' Enough for Fox News

At least one Republican is willing to slam CPAC for the choice of speakers at CPAC in mid March. Matthew Dowd, a chief strategist for George W. Bush's reelection, is highly critical of CPAC for inviting Sarah Palin but passing on New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie.

Quoting Dowd: "CPAC, to me, has totally diminished its credibility as an organization. And you invite Sarah Palin, who wasn’t competent enough to keep a Fox News contract? But she’s invited to a CPAC meeting?”

I note also that CPAC has now extended an invite to Donald Trump, but not Christie. What is it about the last election that they don't get?

Schmidt, I certainly agree that Christie SHOULD have been invited because of the popular position that he holds, and he certainly would have been the ONE to lead the party in a new and challenging position of goals and efforts to be a winning team. However, the ones that were invited are nothing but the same old, same old group of losers and false-hope-givers that have been leading this party of losers at least since 2008. Persons like Sarah, Wayne, Newt, Mitt, Marco, Paul, etc. are all examples of who's been there and done that. Let them get together for their giant social and pseudo-celebratory bash and lead those losing Republicans right into then perfect trap that they have and are setting for themselves--2016.

That is a collection of the most out of touch people in the USA today! None of them should ever be allowed to hold public office let alone make any decisions that affect the public!

As far as I'm concerned they are all enemies of the country and the citizens of the USA!

The reason Chris Christy wasn't invited this year is because he said positive things about Obama right before the election. It will take a lot to get past that. Marco Robio and Sarah Palin aren't white men !!!!!! Who's responsible for this mistake ?

Gov. Christy wasn't invited because he acted like a Governor of a State,so rather then bite the hand that was going feed him money for storm damages( winter storm Sandy) he choose to schmooze with the democrats, who by the way hold the purse strings, and he in fact did get his state funding for the damages, had he done what the republican leadership expected him to, like denounce the Current Adminstration for whatever delays were inevitable with that type of funding and to provide sound bytes for the then upcoming election, who knows what the outcome of the funding would've been. He did what was best for his state especially since he is the Governor, and if he does run for President in what 2015-16, I would expect him to think again along those same lines , he will do what is best for the country, and not what the Party bosses feel is best.

Yes he did do what was best for his state. But the repub's would rather he be negative (figuring the funding would come anyways) and take one for the team. Then they could all blast the administration in harmony. What the repub's in congress are doing is not what's best for the country. But their working as a team has all conservatives blasting POTUS. Not right but it follows their game plan.

It's not all repubs. just the old guard holding onto or what I think hanging onto ideas and ways of doing things that have moved on, they can't move on, they're stuck in some sort of time warp, this is what brings the creditabilty of the GOP down to single digits and prevents free discourse between the major parties in the Congress. I believe firmly in term limits, this certainly could cut down on the pettiness and the bloating of the Budget, also it could help in preventing corruption.

Our latest troll, defended by another, says to visit The Patriot's Voice which is chaired by noneother than Rick Santorum. And the website says to join them at CPAC. It would seem that those who lost a bundle backing the nutters are still throwing good money at a bad choice.

Are you refering to me as a "troll", a fictional storybook creature who lurks under bridges to collect tolls from unsuspecting wayfarers? Why? I am too thick skinned to be offended but just curious ,as I am a registered Democrat and an Election official in my County and District who values honest discourse and listens to opposing viewpoints so as to be better informed, however if you agree with my intepretation of a "troll", I proudly stand guilty.

Explain my distrust of this Administration? You are kidding me,right, from the fawning of the National Press corps suppressing everything negative being said or written about the then Canididate, which we now know that there should have been a better vetting of this canididate, from his collage political leanings and his mentors and associations with the far left radicals, who actually wanted to overthrow the government by violent displays of protests ,by his jamming down the citizens throat with the assist of the ever fawning national press corps ,a horrible Affordable Care Act, that not the then Senate Majority Leader Nancy Pelosi even read, the various cover-ups, from the Fast & Furious program to the current Bengazi mess, throw in a not a voters intimitdation case in Philadelphia, even though the defendants were there right by the voting polls with billy clubs, we could also discuss his apology tours and bowing down to the Saudi King/Prince, I forget which one, the way he never has taken responsibilty for the current economic mess were in, it seems that he is more into blaming then solving problems, his own party has rejected his budget plans in total by unaminous vote against, and still, here we are 4 plus years and still no national Budget Plan, his refusal to call the killer of 13 servicemen and women and wounding scores more at a medical facility at Fort hood while proclaiming :Allah Ackbar" a terrorist instead he said it was a case of a workplace violence caused by a disgruntled worker. I am growing tired listing my reasons ,although there are even more reasons to list, as I said I grow tired. I hope this enough for you.

So I have to ask. Do all of your fellow Democrats still want the birth certificate(better vetting)? And no, I said you came to the trolls defense.

Better vetting is not just showing exclusivey a birth certificate, most candidates are presumed to be citizens, by vetting I mean ,(investigation is the better word for it) seeing what motivates the candidate, his or hers view on a myrid of topics from economic and political and the use of the military, to taxes ,to include his or views on the world situations, these were the topics that the main stream media failed to do during the" 08" election, for better or worse, they did the American voter a dis-service by not allowing them to make an informed decision, who knows ,given this President's popularity maybe the outcome might have been the same, but now we will never know. BTW, I assumed that what you meant by indicating that a troll was being defended by another, meant that we were both trolls, my apology for the assumption.

Hey, I'm missing good old Grover Norquist, buddy of LaPierre and super expert related to the econmomy and taxes. At least he can discuss with Romney how to hide all your money somewhere on this globe tax free.

Wow johnny, That was a harsh statement. If you truely feel that way then you should feel obligated to change parties. Be true to yourself and your beliefs. But you can't have it both ways. Pick a side. Perhaps you already have.

by the way, I have health insurance but I am very much in favor of the (Horrible) Affordable Care Act.
