Daniel Inouye and Daniel Akaka had been in their Hawaiian senate seats for a long time. Together, they amassed 70+ years in politics. But, with the passing of Inouye and the retirement of Akaka, Hawaii has two brand new senators, Brian Schatz and Mazie Hirono.
For a very long time, Inouye and Akaka, but most notably Inouye, developed strong relations in Washington, and were especially adept and successful at getting federal funding for their state. This is no easy task given the ... detached nature (pun regrettably intended) of their state. People tend to forget about them. Do you think that Hirono and Schatz, the new duo, are up for the challenge? Would especially like to hear from someone that has or is living in Hawaii, if DHub has any??
