If any President is responsible for our growing influence in the rest of the world, President William McKinley should top the list. From acquiring Puerto Rico, Guam, and the Philippines, to the annexation of Hawaii and the "liberation" of Cuba, President McKinley presided over the greatest acquisition of land outside of the Continental United States in America's history. Perhaps no other President presided over the expansion of American's influence in world affairs than did Mr. McKinley as his decisions set the tone for American foreign policy for the next century.
