While residents are still picking up the pieces from the devastating super storm Sandy that hit in late October, they are now staring down a mammoth of a blizzard that will almost certainly slow down reconstruction, if not grind it to a halt. If the forecasts are correct, the northeast is about to get hit with upwards of three feet of snow in the next day or two. The Weather Channel is dubbing this super storm Nemo, the first officially named snow storm in history. This storm could not have come at a worse time for the communities that will be affected by it.

The main thing that's on my mind right now is this: How many Super Storms must we go through until our society finally comes to terms with the climate beast that we have created? Why are we one of the only industrialized country that looks at the climate wreaking havoc and just shrug our shoulders, as if there is nothing we can do? If anything, we have gone backwards towards towards tackling climate change. With half of the country still believing that climate change is a myth, I have to admit that I'm not overly optimistic that any sea change of public opinion will be happening anytime soon. All the while, the Northeast continues to get hammered, the heartland doesn't see rain, the southwest is running out of water, and forest fires are getting larger and larger each year. What will it take to convince the right that we have a MAJOR problem on our hands if none of these current disasters have changed any minds? If these things haven't, I am afraid of what it will take in order to get them to change their opinions.

Don't worry, the Refublicans will save us and if they fail there is always The Tea Party (or whatever they change their name to)

"pgr" the problem we encounter is that all these "snowbirds" dropped down to FL and are now poluting our area; it also looks like a disaster area, because they never learned to put their empty hamburger boxes in the garbage and throw them out of their car windows. Also they ruin our roads and never learned to drive. So I declare this a disaster area called "snowbird droppings" disease. Like "united" says "go camping" on Mars instead!!!

Jared -- This is one of the big frustrations of my life...trying to convince a climate change denier with scientific facts and analysis. They would rather quote James Inhofe or Michael Crichton than read or listen to the analyses and recommendations of thousands of climatologists worldwide from the IPCC, to NASA to the American Academy of Scientists. Certainly the science is complex, and there are some uncertainties about what some of the specific data mean, but not in the overall big picture. I have read many of their reports and concur. See Wikipedia, Scientific Opinion on climate change:

"This scientific consensus is expressed in synthesis reports, by scientific bodies of national or international standing, and by surveys of opinion among climate scientists. Individual scientists, universities, and laboratories contribute to the overall scientific opinion via their peer-reviewed publications, and the areas of collective agreement and relative certainty are summarised in these high level reports and surveys."

It's not like the deniers have arrived at their views through a critical analysis and reading of scientific reports. Rather it is a well funded deliberate program by the Koch brothers and other entities to cast doubt or otherwise demean the efforts of the scientists.

Bryan Walsh, Time Magazine, October 4, 2011: Who's Bankrolling the Climate-Change Deniers?

"As the sociologists Riley Dunlap of Oklahoma State University and Aaron McCright of Michigan State University suggest, climate denialism exists in part because there has been a long-term, well-financed effort on the part of conservative groups and corporations to distort global-warming science. That's the conclusion of a chapter the two researchers recently wrote for The Oxford Handbook of Climate Change and Society. "Contrarian scientists, fossil-fuel corporations, conservative think tanks and various front groups have assaulted mainstream climate science and scientists for over two decades," Dunlap and McCright write. "The blows have been struck by a well-funded, highly complex and relatively coordinated denial machine.""

Those that have fallen victim to the propaganda machine are some of the same people that believe President Obama was born in Kenya and is a secret Muslim, that the earth is 6,000 years old, the Obama is going to take away your guns, and blah, blah blah. They believe what they want to believe. And you can't argue with them. Fox News pundits regularly feature the deniers...people like Sean Hannity and Steve Doocy, bottom feeders who do not deserve the title of jounalist.

And the Koch brothers are smiling as they pollute our atmosphere and pile up huge profits. Follow the money...

THANK YOU Dennis Kucinich for your effort to introduce HR2977 which WOULD have possibly prevented these storms by the prevention of what is described in HR2977 Section 7, 2, A, i, III, ii, B, i, ii, iii, iv. which essentially would prohibit: electronic, psychotronic, or information weapons, CHEMTRAILS, high altitude ultra low frequency weapon systems or plasma, electromagnetic, sonic, ultrasonic weapons.
Further information about these can be found at CONSCIOUSNESSBEYONDCHEMTRAILS.COM and GLOBALSKYWATCH.COM
There are several long expositions about the effects of this excercise, one video seems to show chemtrails among the storm clouds, othere are from scholarly articles propounding that the technology CAN actually direct storms!
That portion of his HR was removed and re-written as HR3616!

The more intelligent people I know invilved in climate change have been saying in New England we should expect more blizzards but less total snow.
