I was born, raised, and live in the South, but it's Yankee blood flowing thru my veins.

I have a picture of Lincoln above my desk in my home office. When the going gets tough, I pray in front of it.

Since 2008, I have been taking firearms courses, predominately out of fear of the rightwingers. I hope to never have to use my weapon. But if they day comes when the South rises again, I will reign down hell upon the Traitors in my midst. My home is Union territory and I will never ever, ever submit to those would destroy our Union.

My great-great-great grandfather was made a Captain in the Union army by Lincoln himself.

Note: I obviously favor civilian gun-ownership but with extensive mandatory training, background checks, gun-counseling, etc.

I am with you on the gun rights with proper training but not with you on the right to carry a concealed weapon. Back in Lincoln's day, people had to carry guns for protection, because we didn't have cops a phone call away back then. But the people back in Lincoln's day didn't hide the fact they had a gun, usually it was strapped to their side and people could decide if they wanted to hang with a man carrying a loaded gun. Now, my rights have been violated, I no longer have the right to choose to hang with a gun man, because the gun man is hiding his gun. Yes guns have to be legal, but it doesn't say anything about carrying hidden guns in public in the constitution, this must be stopped, it is a violation of my right to choose who I am around, I do not want to be with people and their hidden gun, put the gun where I can see it and stopped violating my rights. If the south should rise again, their guns will be in plane view, just like all who carry guns, I have the right to know if you have a gun, the only people who should have concealed guns are the criminals and police, not the majority.

I'm shaking my old head; certainly we do not live in 1800 right now; also carry weapons openly like the police only should do, is also getting back to 1776. So keep on dreaming; poor old Abe would be ashamed of you guys; Sure train everyone with a gun including the criminals, so they can kill you with the first shot sounds great. Background checks for 10% of the ones who own these, certainly solves the problem of millions of unregistered guns for sure. But as I said many times, this country will continue as always and will never learn. As "Jill" listed the percentage of kills for the US per 1000 persons is way higher than any other civil country and it will continue that way for sure, so be proud and "go back in time" instead of "forward in time" you may as well stop the clock!!!

Just for the record here iswhat "jill" quoted:

The following statistics showing a correlation between the number of guns owned per 100 persons and the number of gun homicides per 100,000 persons were published in Time magazine.

Country .....Guns owned per 100 persons ......Gun Homicides per 100,000 persons

    USA ................... 88.8 .......................................3.2%
    Canada .............. 31.3 ........................................0.1%
    Norway ...............30.8 ........................................0.5%
    Australia .............15.0 ........................................0.1%
    Japan ...................0.6 ........................................0.0%

We have 2 1/2 to 3 times as many guns and 6 to 32 times as many gun homicides as the countries nearest to us in guns. Our gun laws are more lax than any other developed and civilized country. It's enough to make one think about what we should be doing to change this.

I wonder when Abe was around what the figures would have been in 1800? Certainly they did not have AR-15's or AK-47's, otherwise the civil war could have ended differently and then we would do our shopping at Walmart with at least three of these guns over our shoulders.
    God saves the guns !!

"left" you are right, I guess on the moon it would be much quiet-ter, but aren't we having fun, at least not boring; one killing a day in FT. Myers; I do not even blink about that anymore!! My taxes will go up because of guards at schools, so the "gunny's can enjoy their toys on my cost; why don't they marry these things, makes the bed nice and oily?

I like your style, for sure if any one net work could be called Hitler's media, it is Fox News on the top of the list, with the most lies told to confuse the majority. When will someone in this majority sew Fox for the destruction they are causing with their Hitler media?

I have to wonder how long it will take for a gun freak school guard to attack a child at school using their gun as part of their rape kit? Your tax dollars will go a lot further with guard dogs at school that do not rape children.

"united" the damage is already done; here in this county they want to spent 4 million to put guards at schools and shove these cost onto us.
I would love to go to court and fight this; I rather pay for your dogs, I guess less costly and fun for the kids, instead of a "prison camp" or move to another county where they give kids "freedom" to roam as they like without the fear. My calculation is also that the Newtown thing was an anomaly; this kid did it because his mother loved these kids but not him. Thus I wonder if you take a risk calculation that this probably won't happen again for a hundred years for instance, that an simular situation will occur. Leave these kids alone and give them freedom; it is not an airport!! Nowhere around the world do they protect kids this way; we are the laughing stock of the world right now.

Teachers with guns is an absolutely ludicrous idea, and it shows how depraved the rightwing NRA has gone.

I couldn't agree more, these gun freaks need a reality check, a swift kick in the ass would do it maybe, or that could give them brain damage I guess, since they have their head where the sun doesn't shine.

"united" as you said in another "thread" another 100,000 new members for the NRA, so I guess we are on the losing end of the stick.
In a country where the lobby is "king" then we are the minority and loose on all fronts. So I'm convinced unless Obama/Biden have a very strong backbone nothing will change, except perhaps re-wording of the background checks, in such way that on paper it looks good, but in practise it does not change anything at all. So my impression is all the "talking" we did on this site was wasting time, but anyway it was fun with you guys!!!

We are gun-owners here, mostly to shoot snakes and protection as we live out in the Arizona desert. However, we are constantly bombarded by neighbors who (Before the Sandy Hook shootings) say they are part of a group that is going to overtake the government because Obama is Hitler and they don't want to have health care!!! These are people who were offered health care through their employer and refused it and bought two new guns instead of fixing their broken-down vehicle! Just part of living in a "right to be a slave" state. The man who was just on "Hardball" about civil war is normalcy out here! Time to move???

    Time to move!

about 35 years ago my wife and I were vacationing in Tucson AZ. We sort of liked the life style ((weather) there and considered moving from Boston and settling there. It took me about 24 hrs, when I got home, to realize I could never live in a society like that and I totally refused to even consider it, much to my wife's dismay. Today, she would say I made the right decision!
