Kansas City Star paper (1/8/2013) has front page news of thieves breaking into police authority cars stealing their weapons, ammo and special equipment. Their assault weapons were stolen and identified as AR15 type with 3 clips each holding 30 rounds.

It is realized that theft can occur anywhere, but think of teachers having guns and their "professional" capability to keep students from stealing them. If Police authorities can have their guns stolen, who is the NRA kiddin about trained teachers to carry.

As the NRA President is identified in the same paper as constructing a national database on the mentally ill, I beleive that Mr. Wayne LaPierre should be the first name on that list. Anybody to suggest this national action after the recent horror in a public school is not thinking clearly and is mentally daffy in a civilized society.

"freedom" no I do not think that makes any difference at all; guns get traded and stolen every day; there are millions of unregistered guns in the stranged places and hands, so arming teachers or your dog it does not matter at all. The gun lobby will get its way anyway and life (or death) goes on as usual, or did you forgot what country you live in?

Too bad the cops didn't have a dog, they would still have their assault riffles if they did. Dogs don't care about lobby money running America or the NRA, but they will take a gun thief or an armed gun man down every time, just like the soon to come guard dogs at school will be doing if any coward dares to enter where the dog is waiting locked and loaded ready to fire on a seconds notice. No, I don't think anyone will be putting their hand in the dogs mouth to steel its weapons either, the gun problem will be solved in school, as for your home, I suggest you get a pit bull too, there are plenty waiting to be adopted at the humane society. Dog is man's best friend for a reason, lobby money doesn't buy their loyalty.

I guess that it is now quite obvious what we need to do for each and every school in America: Construct a moat around each property, filled with sulphuric acid, NOT water, and a 30' high steel-reinforced concrete wall around the school buildings themselves. Inside the perimeter of this moat, there will be a guard tower on each side of the gated doorway through the concrete wall into the schoolyard itself. This guard tower will be manned with a guard who possesses marksmanship skills second to none, and will have a full arsenal of automatic weapons, RPGs, and computer screen images of 100% of the perimeter's surfaces. Inside the school there will be an armed and trained teacher in every classroom, including the gymnasium, and a computer-controlled bolt locking/unlocking system on an official school time controller. Each classroom will have its own bathroom, as no one can leave a classroom once class begins, not even the teacher. Upon arrival each day, each student's book-bag, coat, purse, and/or personage will be checked and examined by the teacher in the first class of that day, and obviously he/she will also have been trained in all types of espionage, trickery, and even counter-terrorism tactics. The result of this daily protectionism will be the safest schools America has ever had. Knowing this, who cares about the cost?

"michaels" you are rigt on the ball; since I have no guns this sounds like a great idea also for my house; I'll ask the county to pay for my protection; too bad I do not have little kids, otherwise I would sent them to school in Europe, where they are free to roam as they please and get a much better education without protection.

A humane society dog is way cheaper and better protection.

Teachers are the ultimate humanitarians. Even if you mandated they carry guns most say "oops! left it at home again".

Dogs are great, but the problem is that police authorties take their vehicles home. The police vehicle with weapons inside are on the street or in the driveway while the officer is away. No right person who loves dogs would leave the poor animal in the vehicle alone at night. Poor Fido would not appreciate his dutied loving master sleeping warm and comfortable in bed while he stands guard in the police vehicle.

Think of the weapons as a tool for law enforcement. You don't expect an electrician, plumber, carpenter, telecommunications serviceman to carry in all their tools into the house each night. It's the same for police. Thieves are getting too smart knowing how to circumvent alarms and being quick enough to steal away before being caught.

This is a problem. I like my police in the neighborhood to be able to respond quickly. This problem should be discussed well.

I wouldn't want a teacher with a gun in school, guns can go off when they are not supposed to, the same with the arm guard in school. Solve the gun problem at school with a dog.

As far as these cops leaving their guns over night in the car, for sure these cops need to bring these guns in the house with them and put the gun in a vault that keeps the bad guys hands off the good guys guns. I know all kinds of contractors who do not leave there tools out side in their truck, they bring them into the house with them. Cops only have so many guns, they can do some physical work too and carry their guns in the house with them after their work shift, or leave the police car at work, where I would assume the guns would be safe. But if there is a chance these cop's guns are not safe even at work in the police car, the guns should be taken out of the car and brought inside the police building to be locked down. There is no good reason in the world for this kind of gun theft to happen, it should never happen again. There is no one in the military that leaves a military gun locked in a car over night, the same must apply for all our police with guns too.

I've got only one answer: NO GUNS IN SCHOOLS. Schools are to teach kids, it is not a military academy. FULL STOP.

I've got a solution; regardless of armed guards or dogs the question here in town is who is going to pay for it; why not slap a huge sales tax on all guns sold as well all parts, bullets etc. If there is a large tax, then less guns get sold then as well. In the Netherlands they even have dog tax,so why not additional tax on guns?

At first I thought the tax was a great idea, then remembered the Boston Tea Party, when the British taxed our tea, think what the nuts of today might do if you tax their guns, the south just may rise again.
