I just saw Newt on MSNBC saying that the way to stop tragedies like the Newtown event is to arm the school principals with adequate firearms that can compete with the AK used last week. This guy has his head up his ---! He made no mention of the fact that these administrators all have to get multiple college degrees in order to achieve that position or status, but is now saying that they should also be proficient in handling semi-automatic weaponry, or even automatic weaponry since the intruder may have that too. Since some of these weapons can have a grenade-launcher attached, and I would assume they would need to be proficient in that aspect of the weaponry as well. Nor did he say anything about where these principals' weapons and ammunition would be kept, but if it is in the school, just think what dangers might be associated with that.

Just like the rest of those Republicans that say they have all the answers, he puts zero thought into what he says or recommends, or if he does think about it, he capacity for thought is very limited.

What can you expect from a clown and Buffon like him?

Maybe we can devise a metal detector at the school doorway, which electronically will detect a gun-shaped image, so it sets off a silent alarm. Then the school officials will know something is happening, & put the kids out of harm's way. But in the hallway where the intruder has entered, an automatic trap door will open & plunge the criminal offender into the dungeon of Hell. Inside will be rabid animals & venomous spiders, or maybe just a few sex-crazed old maid school teachers who will rip him to shreds. All this will distract him, so he won't notice the magnetic device that is lowered down into the pit, to capture his guns. By the time the cops arrive, he will be too exhausted to fight, & will be begging them to take him to jail.

Like "pgr" says; how is it possible that anyone like that gets elected? So in other words we have then to pay additional taxes for the gun loving public, to protect us from them; crazier than crazy. This would be real fun; the teacher happens to teach I hope, so he parks his assault riffle on a desk, a kid picks it up because he hates his teacher etc. Is this going to be the Rambo school? I have a better solution, sent all the kids to school on Parris Island SC, then they have protection as well boot camp, so they don't get fat either. After finishing school they can then immediately be sent to Afghanistan. Great solution!!! Is this country really going nuts? A guy on TV was interviewed, he had 17 assault riffles, which he said he needed for his protection. Sure, I guess humans got only two hands, but not him. In one word SICK. I suggest he should start collecting dead mice that is more fun.

Gun toting teachers? It's reality. Crazy? That's up to each person's interpetation. There's LOTS of crazy things going on in this world.

Yes, I have heard a report that this has already happened. In Texas, a principle or superintendent who was authorized to carry a concealed weapon actually stopped a gunman on a school campus. I heard the report a couple of days ago and wish I could remember the details or knew a source for the story.

I'd say this has a little in common with the airlines whose pilots carry concealed guns in the cockpit, something which was unheard of before 9-11. Not all pilots are armed, but some are.

The specific airline, FAA, or someone should totally stop that from happening. I don't care if it is the pilot, co-pilot, or stewardess, anyone of them would have to be totally nuts to do so. I mean do they even think they would use it? Certainly they know that a bullet-hole and a pressurized cabin don't mix. And how many of these fools are experts in shooting, especially during traumatic situations, or in rough weather aboard a plane? If this is happening, I am never flying again.

Just to add to the crazyness here in Ft. Myers they caught about more than 6 kids bringing guns to school; luckily they got caught. Their argument in most cases was to stop kids from bullying them. Great society!! Let's have a gun fight between teachers and students that will be fun!! Like someone said to adding guns to even more guns has exactly the oposite effect. Welcome to America.

michaels guess you won't be flying again because our pilots have been armed for years. Not to mention our Air Marshalls which are armed and on many flights, flying in the passenger cabins, like undercover cops.

    I thought everyone knew this.

dutch Welcome to America. As crazy as America, and there's a LOT of craziness, it is still the best country in the world. Tell everyone you know "Love it or leave it." How many countries do NOT have a bunch of crazy stuff going on? NONE!

What another joke out of the pups. He thinks he is so smart and someone on MSNBC lets him make this a national idea, crazy. Another reason for the ones over seas to say, "dumb Americans". This isn't even an idea, it is a joke, I still haven't heard a better idea than the school working dog idea, I think I will start selling them to schools who want to be safe for real, and not in more danger from guns.

" jamesn" sure "the best country in the world"? Yes that could it be if we stop the downhill trend; wars, debt, crime, greed, polution, money buys elections, exporting our bad habits ( guns, war equipment etc.) having soldiers spread all over the globe, in order to set the world to our hand etc etc.

Dutch you are right about the US being on a downhill trend. Yes, the wars, debt, crime, greed, pollution, money buys elections, exporting our bad habits, soldiers all over the globe...yada, yada, yada, now tell us something we don't already know, because this is not news.

Now that we have cleared all that up: name a country that's better.

    I will name a couple:
    Canada,
way better for sure, a rich country not in bankruptcy, and lots of social programs for their majority, like health care. And yes I asked a Canadian about their health care and they love it for the most part.
    Japan,
least crime of the modern day countries, and you won't go to jail if you get drunk and have sex with a horny 15 year old there, in fact it is encouraged in Japan to have sex with a 15 year old, with their sexual consent age now raised to 15 from 13 a couple years ago.

I think if Dutch wants to, he can name a bunch more; we are far from the best country anymore, with lobby money owning our policies.

Hi Jamesn: I wonder how many Air Marshalls are still flying in our airlines every day, as undercover cops? They act like ordinary passengers & yet they are armed, & know karate, and have been instructed to shoot the stewardess, if necessary, if she is being held hostage in front of the hijacker. It is a fact that many stewardesses probably do not know. These men are very well-trained, & my friend was even trained to fly the airplane in case the pilot was killed by the hijackers. On the day he got his pilot license he took me up in a small plane, right after his first SOLO flight. It was a bit frightening, but also exciting. To a young girl, it was a bit like a "007" experience. (ha) Some of the first Air Marshalls began flying in the US when there were routine hijackings of planes to Cuba. I guess that was way back in the 1970's

united why don't you move? Why stay in the USA when there are better options? If things are so much better there, why in the world are you still here? Maybe there've even got lots of attack dogs, or horny 15 year olds, which would make them even better for you.

You go and we'll stay. While I still think the USA is better but I certainly respect your differing opinion, and I have to admit I never considered sex with 15 year olds as part of my evaluation process.

But before you go, I will say that those are two countries which would make my short list of countries that are ALMOST as good as the USA.
