We've been hearing a lot lately about how small business is a major producer of jobs. This comes from our political gurus who are trying to curry favor with that segment of the population ....How true is it ? The Nov. 28th issus of , The Week, carries a piece from the Wall St. Journal which reads as follows..... "Less that one quarter of America's small businesses have employees. An even smaller portion grow beyond 20 employees. Research from the University of Chicago finds that 75% of small- business owners aren't aiming for growth at all, but are simply looking for a steady job as their own boss "......I would guess that the politcal malarkey is an attempt by the pols to deflect criticism that they have, and are, sitting on their hands while American capitalists have ( they're still at it ) dismantled the nation's industrial capabilty and shipped it to places like China and Bangladesh in search of cheap, and sometimes , slave llabor. A nation's prosperity is based on the tangible goods it produces. This idea has been dealt a crippling blow here in recent years. We can't prosper as a nation by selling each other hamburgers.
