It's Time to 'Get It Together'...in the World of Religion! It's time for the 21st Century to become the 'Century of World Religion Transformation'!

I am a life-long Christian, a retired Minister and USAF Chaplain/Colonel, currently serving in retirement as a College Teacher of Philosophy & World Religions. But, at this stage of my life's Belief and Work, I have discovered within me a new level of Faith and Energy.

I can no longer conceive of any One Religion as exclusively 'right and holy', to the exclusion of other faiths. I see us all as Children of one God who, though perceived, honored, and worshiped differently by each religion of our world, is the Creator/Sustainer of all religious faiths.

As faith groups, I think we are all simply siblings: sisters and brothers in a Family of Shared Divine Parentage. A great, divinely created human family, in which each is as precious to and loved by our Creator as the other....whether or not we really know and/or 'like' each other!
Furthermore, I believe we each and all are simply/creatively 'called' to be uniquely responsible for Faith, Hope and Love that unite us in the collective task of being World Religions on a Planet called 'Earth'.

    This I believe!

And this task of promoting a 21st Century 'Transformation' of World Religions (...in which none lose their unique, individual identity yet all accept collective responsibility for helping our World live in Peace with and for its People) is a task to which I commit my Thought and Effort, for the remaining years of my Human Existence.

Fiinally, I invite You, my Friends, my readers...and All Others...to become my Partners in this Commitment of Belief & Action.

This IS the Time to 'Get It Together' in our World of Religion!

Hello, Don: Sounds like you have a great life goal, & there are probably many here who would like to join you. What has separated all mankind, ever since the Tower of Babel, is our multitude of languages, often confusing (even more) all the different religions. Then adding in prejudice from all different ethnic groups, & you have a recipe for disaster. By NOW, we should be able to overcome all this turmoil.

But in the Muslim world, they are taught to kill us over an insulting cartoon, & we are told it is OK to go bomb Iraq over a false rumor of weapons of mass destruction. These 2 examples of ILLOGICAL Thought, which permeate the whole realm of political ideology, are very difficult to overcome. Especially since false propaganda has been deliberately spread on US airwaves (often masquerading as religion) for the last 50 years.
Maybe a community of idealists can work out some kind of solution to these problems, & bring about "Peace on Earth."

As long there are all kinds of religion on this world invented by people since the beginning of time this has created wars and other problems in societies. Even the catholic church has murdered plenty of people. If I was one of the many "god's who people invented I would be ashamed to even deal with all of these nutty religions since the beginning of time. So I guess I pray to the "sun" (one of the many "god's) at least that is "visible" and can't visit earth.
Anyway I wish the Colonel (how could that be also a "priest" blessing people who helped kill innocent Muslims, who never attacked us in the first place; some terrorist did, not the locals) I wonder why any "transformation" is feasible then.

Colonel, An admirable aspiration in need, I believe , of a little tweaking. A valid religious approach must contain a decent respect, consideration and concern for our fellows.....to include those who claim to be religious , but are actually a devicive force in the world makes the idea of inclusion worthless.......How do we include under an all inclusive umbrella a religion founded by someone who said......Go and tell them what I have taught and, if they refuse to believe, cut off their hands and feet ? Or people who would use the coercive power of government to force others into conformity with thier belief ? Thanks for joining the fray....

I don’t think it is really necessary to have one world religion; however, it is VERY necessary to have one belief and understanding of what God is and what God stands for, no religion to date has made this clear, for many reasons, mostly profit or power. For example; more religions than not use the name of God in vein, religions use God’s name for personal gain, this is breaking God’s commandment, “Thou shall not use the name of the lord in vein.” Because religion is created by man it is far from perfect or pure good, therefore to try and have one world religion will never work, because man cannot work in a pure or perfect sense, because they are man and not God. Still, no religion can change the true meaning of what God is and what God stands for. No matter who you are or what part of the world you come from, it is very possible to be taught the true meaning of the name God. Get the truth about the true meaning of God throughout the world, and you could have world peace.

It is very simple to understand what God stands for, if you look at the purest sense of what most religions say about God. All books of God tell the truth about God, but all books of God are written by man and man has added A LOT to the meaning of God, eliminate the man factor in these books, and you have the true words of God. God is pure, just like 24k gold is, if you add something to something it is no longer pure. God is and can only be one thing, pure good, good does only one thing, good.

God does not tell us to kill our first born, burn cities and tell us to cut off feet; those are the words of man written by man in God's books. Again, pure good is what God is, just add a perfect circle to the word "god" and you have God's only power, "good". Evil is the pure opposite of God, burning cities, black mail and cutting off body parts is pure evil and does not come from God, add the devils initial to the word evil and you have the opposite name of God, evil with a "d" makes devil. Once the world can understand that man has added to God’s books for power and profit, then we will have world peace.

"united majority" I can follow your thoughts completely. Did you ever work all over the world? I did for instance in Bangla Desh. etc. Once you get used to their culture and way of live you understand it and respect it. The same accounts for India or Indonesia etc. Do not forget all these cultures were there way before the western world started to spread their religion around. It is embedded in every thing they do; different than ours which we may practise only on sundays/religeous holidays. Again as I said before no effort in that direction works because of the cultural differences which are huge. They do not see "god's (their are many created on this globe) as all being the same; you may think so but "pushing" Christianty will have an opposite effect. Buddha will stay Buddha, Mohammed will stay Mohammed.
Sorry but I'm an atheist and believe all "god's are human imaginations.
However I believe of course that there must be a "much greater power" than us, "somewhere" or we are part of "it" as a molecule, who or what nobody knows or has seen it. We are totally on our own and responsible for our own actions on this tiny globe; the "universe" including any "god's if there" does what it wants to do and does not ask people for any opinion nor did dictate us to write bibles, korans etc. "Lightning strikes where it wants to strike."

Can't happen so long as the big three agree that the others are all wrong. We agnostics just laugh when the religious argue about who God loves more.

You don't have to say sorry for being an atheist. I can not say I am a Christian, and I am not sorry for that, in fact, most religious people would say I'm going to join you in hell one day for not doing as religious people say I MUST do to get to heaven. That alone is enough to make one be an atheist. Imagine, only people of a CERTAIN religion are going to heaven and EVERYONE else is going to hell, that is something a child would come up with, not what adults believe, but that is exactly what too many religions say, crazy. Trust me, I have had Christians tell me I was going to hell, people who don’t do near the good I do on in this world. Just them saying this to me proves to me they are not very Christian, according to their bible they are not supposed to judge, yet Christians do unlike Christian things all the time, and still believe they are the ones going to heaven and you and I are going to hell, really crazy for sure. I don’t have much use for religion for profit, which most if not all religions are for, profit. Religion has given God a bad name, still; I won’t let the misgivings of religion keep me from believing God is real. My own life has proven the opposite, that God is very real, I will believe what I learned on this planet before I would ever listen to a Christian or another member of another religion. I won’t believe for a second my religion or lack of it will put me in hell, I believe completely our actions on this earth will determine that, atheist or Christian.

"unitedmajority" you are a great thinker and think farther than most people here!! About "hell"; I do not know where that is located nor how my "dead body" knows how to get there. The same accounts for "heaven". I wonder, my best friend just died of cancer, he never hurt even a fly in his lifetime, so I wonder if the same "something up there" who gave him cancer (according to the church, who also says "rape" is approved) if he goes to "hell as well, because he did not go to church. Furthermore did you talk to anyone who's been to "hell"? I gues not, so where is the proof?
I guess "hell" will be on earth if someone drops the "nuclear" thing(s)!! I'm quite sure McCain and Romney will go to "heaven"; they have already bought their way in! (If not they will sent the troops !!!)

If McCain and Romney will go to Heaven, I sure don't want to go there as I could not stand any time (let alone eternity) together with either of them.

Speaking on Heaven, there's an older movie called What Dreams May Come with Robin Williams. It depicts heaven in an amazing way. If you haven't seen it I suggest it. It covers a topic that has long troubled me. The idea that those who commit suicide can't get into heaven. Most times they were good people who just couldn't handle life's pressures.
    ===================
    Storyline

Chris Neilson dies to find himself in a heaven more amazing than he could have ever dreamed of. There is one thing missing: his wife. After he dies, his wife, Annie killed herself and went to hell. Chris decides to risk eternity in hades for the small chance that he will be able to bring her back to heaven.

"McClennan" Yeah, I guess this story was filmed on earth; I wonder very much what the reality is. First of all your body and brains and false teeth(if you had any, just kidding) stay on this simple planet; unless you made a "backup file" of the data stored and sent that wireless up there (what is the "code", location?) Since your body stays here, then also a copy of how you looked like (taken with a "heavenly" camera) should be sent up there, otherwise, if your wife would be there, she would not recognize you at all. Since the beginning of time billions of people died, so it must be crowded up there and very difficult to find your wife without your cellphone which you left on earth. Also I think if Moses is still up there he must have "died again" out of boredom; singing, playing the harp, or grabbing angels all day (looks to me a waste of time). Since all these "souls" do not need food, then on the "back-up info" the smell and taste as well the liking for a nice glass of champagne should be wiped of. There are no cars, planes, bicycles, T.V's, computers, radio's, I-Pads nor clothes; translucent and buck naked I presume. So I guess nobody asks "what's for dinner"?
Anyway; I'll go to hell, so I do not have to worry about all of that anyway, Problem solved!!
