My birth state New Hampshire just elected an entire slate of women to represent them in the Senate and House and my feminist soul was glowing with delight.

As a NH resident I must say I'm shocked. The three male candidates were about as bad as they come so I say good riddance to them. The NH has also gone back to being Democtrat from Tea Party after two years and that alone is a welcome change!

I live in Massachsetts, just 4 or 5 miles from the NH border. NH has always seemed to me to be a nothern version of Mississippi....red neck in the extreme. For many years they had a newspaper in Manchester published by a man who was to the right of Ghengis Khan. So, I was knocked for a loop by the election results. This was no small miracle, and perhaps offers some proof that just about anything is possible if you have patience. I will now feel so much more confortable riding up there to fetch my Johnnie Walker.

Well Leftofcenter, you may consider me a redneck since I live in Mississippi, but one thing is for sure...I never worked for that loser George McGovern or wasted any of my time in efforts for the Republican Party.

Now, now . Let's keep it civil. I apologize . Of course, I realize there are many good people in Mississippi. I was using your state as a whipping boy because of its past history as a socially backward area. I should have caught myself on that. But let me ask....Are you saying I expended some effort on behalf of the Republican Party ? That really hurts. I first voted in the Eisenhower/Stevenson election of 1956 and have voted in every presidential election since then. I have never in my life voted for a Republican even for dog catcher and I wouldn't vote for Jesus if he ran as one.
You really know how to hurt a guy. In '72 the choice was McGovern or Nixon. McGovern said the first thing he would do if elected was stop the VIetnam War. That's why I supported him I would have worked for Al Capone before I worked for Nixon. How about you ? Again, please accept my apology. It was a dumb thing to say.

Wine is much cheaper in MA, believe it or not than NH!!! Hard stuff is another ball game and beer is about equal. I lived on the North Shore for 61 years and the biggest mistake of my life was moving 50 miles north to NH (and I live in a very liberal college town, perhaps the most liberal one in NH!

No need to apologize, it was MY mistake. I am not a native Mississippian, I moved here for a job, and just stayed. Nice retirement though, costs are relatively low here, and I do have some great friends and even a better wife.

I now remember actually voting for McGovern too and I have never voted Republican. He was a far, far better choice than tricky dick, cuz Nixon then proved himself a loser. I had a fatherhood exemption during the Vietnam war or I would certainly have had to go. Yes, I remember that being my major reason for voting for him too, besides his being a Dem.

So please accept MY apology, I reacted so fast that I almost stepped on my tongue.

Dear swswswk, if you think the N.E. states are socialist you probably also believe that evolution is a communist conspiracy and the Mitt Romney was running for the presidency because he really loves all the people.
