Reference: Nancy L. Cohen, AlterNet, September 15, 2012: Mitt Romney's Role as Mormon Bishop Shows His Extremist Religious Beliefs

The above AlterNet article caught my attention.  I've written about Romney's Mormonism before in this website, but few people care to engage in this sensitive topic.  Nancy Cohen gets into more depth about how Mormonism has influenced Mitt Romney's actions as governor.  Do not believe what the candidate Romney says...look at what he does.  And we have a good record of that, not only as governor but as a bishop in the Mormon church.  Starting in 1981, Romney spent nearly 14 years as a Mormon clergyman, becoming the highest Mormon Church leader in the Boston region.  Cohen opens with an account of how Bishop Romney tried to force a young single mother to give up her three year old child for adoption or be excommunicated from the church. She follows that with underlying Mormon beliefs...Romney's beliefs. The following are extracts from Cohen's article:

"Chosen as a kind of enforcer-in-chief, Romney betrayed a zeal far beyond the call of duty. Bishop Romney tried to stop a mother of four whose health was seriously endangered by her pregnancy from having an abortion. The church allows abortion in cases of rape, incest, and danger to the life of the mother, provided a male LDS authority gives permission to the pregnant woman. Romney's superior had already told the woman to proceed for the sake of her health; Romney intervened.

"Romney refused to allow an infertile couple to take advantage of the LDS adoption service until the wife agreed to quit her job and be a stay-at-home mother. Other reliable reports of Mitt’s years as a Mormon clergyman have him excommunicating adulterers, calling homosexuals under his authority “perverse,” warning a middle-aged divorced woman that she was not allowed to have sex, and telling a leading Mormon feminist, “You’re not my kind of Mormon.”

"Candidate Romney supported a women’s right to legal abortion, and opposed abstinence-only sex education; Governor Romney opposed abortion, tried to roll back reproductive rights and embryonic stem-cell research, and expanded abstinence-only sex education. The candidate dropped pink fliers at Boston’s Gay Pride parade saying, “Mitt and Kerry wish you a great Pride weekend.” Mitt the governor tried to change state law to allow Catholic adoption agencies to discriminate against gay couples. Most troubling, given the credible Washington Post report about a teenaged Mitt chopping off the hair of a gay classmate, was Romney’s elimination of the governor’s Commission on Gay and Lesbian Youth. The commission had been chartered by Republican Governor William Weld to tackle the problem of gay teen suicide.

"In July 2005, Romney cut short a New Hampshire vacation in order to veto a bill requiring hospitals to give emergency contraception to rape victims. (The legislature overrode his veto.) Romney defended his veto by claiming he had “spoken with medical professionals” who had informed him that the morning-after pill could work as “an abortion pill.”
    "

Read Nancy Cohen's entire article at the above link.  If you have any questions about what a President Mitt Romney do, do not believe what he says.  Look at what he did as governor of Massachusetts.  And look very hard at how "Bishop Romney " took on his church role, and ask yourself if that is who you want for president of the United States of America.

Gosh Schmidt, this guy is REALLY a radical, and it looks like he has always been that way.  At first I thought it might be the pressure of vying for the highest office, but now I see that he was already like that when he was a Mormon Church Bishop.  Maybe he should quit the campaign and go to the location of one of his off-shore havens to set up HIS OWN church/religion.  That way he would stay out of the affairs of U.S. citizens, which is exactly where he should stay.

Greetings Schmidt, that article is 100% right!! I have tried not to say too many damming things about the LDS church but enough is enough!! My husband and I lived the nightmare!! Because my husband and I are not bigots we IGNORED THE WARNING from people who seemed to know more about the Mormons than we certainly did at the time we bought our darling little cottage and moved into a highly Mormon community. At first they were ever so nice, dropping off homemade pies, etc. inviting us to Church suppers, etc. But when we discovered that they were cheating us and our friends on different issues and confronted them (the Village Council) all the niceness changed with the exception of 2 different couples. Let me try and list some things.... 1. The Tax Assessor assessed our home 47.5% higher than any other house in the village, even those that were newer, larger and had attached garages, our property taxes went up 37% (after mill rate adjustment) while our Mormon neighbours went up 5-9%!! The Assessor was also a member of the LDS church from another city but still protected church members while hitting us hard!! I had to go to the Provincial Government to get things fixed, along with another couple in another Mormon Village who had exactly the same thing done by the same assessor. The government took his license away!! 2. Friends of our bought the house 2 doors down from us just 6 months after we bought (so nothing had happened as yet so we were not able to warn them) They paid cash for their house, moved their furniture in from the Province next to us (a great distance for the movers) and returned to B.C. to finish up their jobs. During this time they waited and waited to receive their Land Title from the lawyer, 6 months went by with once excuse after another (we found out the lawyer was the President of the Stake in that area). Our friends hired him (no other lawyer available in the area and they were trusting, not bigots either. They found out he was working for the sellers who were members of the church and he did not disclose this!!!! After 6 months our friends finally received their Land Title ONLY TO FIND OUT THAT 3 MORTGAGES FROM THE SELLERS HAD BEEN TRANSFERRED ONTO OUR FRIENDS TITLE!! Our friends paid cash, and the lawyer was obliged by law to PAY OFF ANY LIENS, MORTGAGES, ETC. FROM THE MONEY HE RECEIVED (PUT IN TRUST) FROM THE BUYERS (our friends) BUT HE DID NOT!!! HOW ON EARTH HE WAS ABLE TO TRANSFER THESE OUTSTANDING MORTGAGE ONTO OUR FRIENDS DEED NO ONE KNOWS, BUT HE DID!! (I HAVE THE PROOF IN MY FILE)
It took another 5 months for this to be fixed and was only done because our friends threatened to sue!! 3. The village administrator(also Mormon) embezzled a very large amount of money from the village coffers (at least 3 council members knew he was doing this). When discovered they did not lay charges, only politely asked him for his resignation and immediately found him another job through the LDS employment network.

There are several several cases like this and I could go on forever, we tried and tried along with others to expose these people and have something done, but they just carried on as usual. Most government agents in that area were all members of the LDS church (which is why they try so hard to vote in their own members, so everything can be covered up)

One thing I would like to mention is that the women (with one exception) are all under their husbands thumbs, after all the men hold the priesthood in the family!! I tried walking with a couple of the women but very shortly they were told by their husbands they could not walk with me. I guess my reasoning powers were just too offensive, but I will give you a couple of examples; one woman wanted to change her job, not happy with her current one and had been given an offer from a place of employment that she really wanted. She told me on our second to last walk that her husband did not want her to change jobs as the new job was in the next town and she would have to drive, but said he would pray on the matter, she said to me "this is the day he is going to let me know if I can change jobs, here is hoping, and she crossed her fingers". My mouth fell open, I could not believe this woman was in the 21st century. The next day she informed me that her husband said she could NOT CHANGE JOBS!! She was near tears......you can imagine what I said. She never walked with me again. Another lady said "oh I wish I could be more like you", when I said "you can and I will help you", she was never allowed to have anything to do with me again.

AND THIS IS NOT A BREAK AWAY GROUP.......THIS IS MAINSTREAM LDS, JUST IN A SMALL VILLAGE, BUT VERY NEAR A LARGER TOWN WITH THE FIRST MORMON TEMPLE EVER TO BE BUILT IN CANADA!!

I implore all of you to read some books on this faith, starting with: THE MOUNTAIN MEADOWS MASSACRE, THE MORMON CORPORATE EMPIRE, UNDER THE BANNER OF HEAVEN, just to name a few. Wake up wake up!!

Account Deleted Wrote: Beware blogs that are full of opinions but no links to verify said opinion. Anybody can say anything and tout it as truth-just look at another lying Mormon named Harry Reid.
The fact is, I never dreamed I'd have to chose between a Mormon presidential candidate and a Muslim(Who be dat?). However, given the horrendously vile nature of Muslims(wrong), and the benign, sparkling clean lives of Mormons, I have to say GIMME THE MORMON. The REAL truth is this....Romney has done such a superb job as a private sector business man(butchering a company is not doing business), unlike Obama who cannot build a leggo log house, that he alone can rebuild and repair the mess Obama has gotten us into(Bush did). Not only that, but his records are for all to see unlike Obama who will not produce enough records to prove he ever even attended college, let alone graduated from one(Harvard Law Review Editor). The Democrats are scratching like chickens to find any dirt on this squeaky clean candidate(Flip flopper) to the point that they are carrying it around it vials hoping for a chance to throw some on him. Good luck with that, and I'll see you in November. Out with the old, in the with new! Romney/Ryan 2012

crazyn did get one thing right. Anyone can say anything and if they don't provide a source then who is to say what is fact and what is fiction. A person can be more than one poster on this forum and I have seen it happen before. They can claim to be anyone and claim to be from anywhere and claim to have personal experiences of all kinds. I has happened at least once on this forum that I know of so maybe it happen all the time. Any post can be fact or any post can be made up and on that point crazyn was right.

    Denice --

Thanks for sharing your experiences with the Mormons in your community. For many of us, we don't get to see that side of Mormons. My own personal experiences with Mormons at work were all very positive, but I didn't socialize with them, and certainly had nothing to do with their faith. I do respect their faith as I do all faiths, but some people are certainly more true to their faith. Mitt Romney, however, is not true to his faith as evidenced by his lying...or as I wrote in this website back on September 1st:

"Okay then...as most everyone writing in this website knows, Mitt Romney lies. He lies every day. He bears false witness. According to the Mormon church's own doctrine explained above, much of what Mitt Romney says is a lie. He has lied in his campaign, and he lied in his acceptance speech, bearing false witness against President Obama."

That sentence was extracted from my post: Mitt Romney and the 9th Commandment.. I quoted Mormon scripture in that post straight out of the Latter Day Saints website: Thou Shall Not Bear False Witness.

"Furthermore, one who lies may also likely steal; someone who has little regard for the integrity of truth will probably have little regard for property rights. One sin leads to another. The Lord has said that unrepentant liars—“whosoever loveth and maketh a lie” (Rev. 22:15)—shall spend time in hell, and eventually be assigned to the telestial kingdom for eternity (see Rev. 21:8; 2 Ne. 9:34; D&C 42:21; D&C 63:17; D&C 76:103)."

Also, back in June I referenced Martin Bashir: Mitt Romney lies...and his Mormon faith.

“Which brings us to the moral codes of Mormonism that Mr. Romney claims to live by. In Section 63, in verse 17 of the Doctrine and Covenants of the Mormon Church we find this: ‘All liars, and whosoever loveth and and maketh a lie, and the whoremonger, and the sorcerer, shall have their part in that lake which burneth with fire and brimstone which is the second death.’ And from the Book of Mormon to Nephi, Chapter 2, Verse 34 we find this: ‘Woe unto the liar, for he shall be thrust down to hell.’”

“Given what the Book of Mormon is clearly saying, Mr. Romney has but two choices. He can either keep lying and potentially win the White House, but bring eternal damnation upon himself or he can start telling the truth. The question for him, I guess, is which is more important.”

The question that I addressed in both posts is why Mitt Romney's fellow Mormon's are not calling him out for his lying. Lying is against the Mormon church doctrine. I have not heard one single Mormon come forward and call him out. Yet this is what Mormons are supposed to do. ..call him out for his lying. Again quoting from the Mormon website above:

"On that basis, it is clear that when someone is slandered, or evil is spoken of them falsely, and we know an injustice has been done, we are morally and scripturally bound to step forward and defend the injured party. To keep silent in such circumstances is a type of bearing false witness ourselves."

Wow...you can read a lot into that statement...it's there in black and white in the Latter Day Saints website. But no Mormon will step forward...they keep their silence.

It does suggest something that a fellow Mormon of Mitt Romney's stature...a former Bishop, High Priest and Stake President in the Mormon church lives by a different set of rules...and he gets away with it...again and again.
