Huffington Post, September 12: J. Christopher Stevens, U.S. Ambassador To Libya, And 3 Embassy Staffers Killed In Attack On American Consulate In Benghazi

The U.S. ambassador to Libya and three American members of his staff were killed in the attack on the U.S. consulate in the eastern city of Benghazi by protesters angry over a film that ridiculed Islam's Prophet Muhammad, Libyan officials said Wednesday.

Also in Egypt hundreds of protesters "scaled the walls of the U.S. Embassy in Cairo and tore down and replaced the American flag with a black Islamic banner."

The protests in both countries were sparked by outrage over a film ridiculing Muhammad produced by an Israeli filmmaker living in California and being promoted by an extreme anti-Muslim Egyptian Christian campaigner in the United States. Excerpts from the film dubbed into Arabic were posted on YouTube.

It appears to me that the recent turmoil in both countries has been deliberately provoked by those that want to undermine the peace process.  And what other proven way to provoke Islamic rage than to depict the Islamic Prophet Muhammad with a film ridiculing him.  Furthermore, translating it into Arabic and putting it on YouTube was a calculated move that targeted the fervent Islamic factions in both countries. It had it's intended effect and those that participated in the provocation have the blood of the US Ambassador, J. Christopher Stevens and his three staffers on their hands.

What is the recourse for those that deliberately set out to undermine President Obama and his efforts to promote a peace in the area? It appears that the Israeli and Egyptian may not even be US citizens, but the US takes the blame.

The video was supposedly picked up by that Rev. Jones from FL.  He started the 9/11 mess a few years ago about burning the Koran.  The clip on utube only had about 3000 hits.  See my post on Romney interference and look at this.  Yep, Romney and Fox wants another war.

Romney win could spur longtime pal Netanyahu to face Iran threat

HAIFA, Israel –  Mitt Romney and Benjamin Netanyahu go way back, and some in Israel believe the prime minister sees his old friend capturing the White House as the perfect opportunity to vanquish Iran's nuclear threat.

The depth of their relationship, sown back in the 1970s when they both worked as corporate advisers at the Boston Consulting Group, has been on the minds of Israelis lately as the American election season grinds along. In addition to an entry on their resumes, Romney and Netanyahu appear to share a similar perspective of the danger Iran poses to the Jewish State. And given the often-frosty relations between Netanyahu and the Obama administration, decisive action by Israel could come quickly if Romney wins on Nov. 6.

Watch the Republicans over react and start beating their war drums.
Would somebody remind them you can't start wars over every little thing.
My prayers and sympathies go out to the families of those killed.
But obviously diplomatic posts carry risks. There was a reason we did not have this compound guarded. The people stationed there new the risks. The worst happened. You don't start wars over that you make changes to diplomacy with that country.

    DemNow --

Thanks for the Romney - Netanyahu connection.  Romney is behind in the polls now and is getting desperate for a "game changer" that he can exploit.  It will be interesting to see how this plays out and if it is indeed a game changer.  I expect Romney will be at the forefront condemning Obama and interfering in foreign policy. I look for Netanyahu to do likewise, undermining President Obama with the Jewish-American community.

It will be political suicide for any to use this. The Isaelis because an Israeli shot the film with help from Terry Jones. And our rightwing because of the Jones connection. Distance would be the wise course. But....

I am hearing the war drum beat already here also.    Also here I am hearing that this episode was not caused by the crazy preacher in Florida but the crazy preacher in Florida is being used by the republician      Super Pacs  to start this thing up.    Just think of the timing of it all - Obama is up in the polls - Israeli Prim in spouting off to get us to attack Iran for them - He is a friend of Romney - 9/11 - these people came prepared and knew when the Ambassador was to be there -        All this is just tooo tidy to be spontaneous - think about it

They are looking at  Al Qaeda as the murderers now.  Tney weren't  killed with a weapon most folks would not have laying around.  Makes sense with the announcement Monday of the second in command of Al Qaeda killed by a drone.

Al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula's second in command killed, Yemen says
Yemeni forces have killed Said al-Shihri, second in command of al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula, the Yemeni Defense Ministry said Monday.
A Yemeni government official, speaking on condition of anonymity, said officials are waiting for DNA confirmation.
If confirmed, the death "would be a deeply significant blow against AQAP," CNN terrorism analyst Paul Cruickshank said.
The killing of al-Shihri and other AQAP leaders "is leading to the gradual dismantlement of the group," CNN national security analyst Peter Bergen said.

Oh boy, we'd better watch out.  Our precious country and its devout and hard-working military is DEFINITELY at risk IF the GOP wins the presidency.  Romney (and very possibly Ryan too, although I have no proof yet) is out for war, and he is determined to win the election now by claiming how he & Israel are bound together in Israel's defense, and the need for action is RIGHT NOW!  He is saying "Come-on Americans, we need to protect and defend our brothers, and both silence and annihilate Iran, yes I said Iran, although Romney has been lately announcing that Russia is our biggest enemy.  So, which is it Mitt, war with Iran or war with Russia, or both?  I'm sure he'll let us know soon, as this is his last hope in the 2012 election--getting the Republican base so stirred-up and upset that they rally around his warmongering.

Let Romney send his sons and grandsons to fight THIS one!!!  I understand NONE of his children or grandchildren have served in our military yet he sure beats the war drums.  Better still let Romney AND Hannity send their kids to war.  Romney jumped the gun on this one...would he do the same as president??? You betcha!  He's desperate to get a vote no matter what.  The GOP is now trying to say he issued the statement prior to knowing about the killing of our people in the embassy....no way, Libya is many hours ahead of the U.S. they would have known had they checked first!

Have faith in the Republican Party and the troops!

This is all it takes now to back a war in America.  It took 2 towers to fall to get America's majority behind war a decade ago, now all it will take is a Republican leader and its party’s faith to justify murder and hell rain from America.  "Protect our non-Jesus worshiping Israel brothers with war because that is what American Christians do," none of it makes any sense what so ever, yet here we are, thinking about policing the world with China borrowed money.  Of course Romney says Russia is our enemy, yet the only communist country threatening America today is China, "Romney, haven't you heard, the cold war game has ended, and you have to come up with a new plan to spend trillions on war toys."

Rachel Maddow had an excellent opening segment on her show last night that points to a well planned and orchestrated attack on the Benghazi consulate by a fringe group of Al Qaeda. The viral anti-Muhammad video was not a factor in this attack, although it certainly was and continues to be in Cairo and other locations in the world.

Rachel Maddow, September 13, 2012: Libya Attacks put spotlight on Al Qaeda affiliates

If you missed Rachel's show, this is well worth your time.

The World Reacts To Libya Tragedy

    http://www.buzzfeed.com/andrewkaczynski/the-world-reacts-to-libya-tragedy

The World mourns with us. The tragedy should not have happen, but it did.

Who ever is behind to all these killings, riots, and chaos, apparently does not have need for PEACE ON EARTH….that’s fine, but I also hope and pray, they get their dues.

    Hi,
Due to the fact that this issue is a hot topic on Oct.22nd, I have the following comment related to the real thruth of this happening.
I worked in many countries, like Bangla Desh, Uganda etc. Before I was sent out, I made sure I new the situation there and asked my boss for all the things i needed to know and get. Immunisation, save hotels, body guards, direct phones, reliable contacts within the country etc.
Therefore I feel a lot of the blame should be placed on the Ambassador himself by not demanding protection BEFORE he was sent out.
If I would be in his situation I would have refused to go if my demands would not be met.
I therefore recommend to change these policies for anyone who gets sent to any such country.
    Rob
