@ReasonVsFear: We have the rt to bear arms. But not the right to health care if shot by those weapons. How backwards is that?

Ha Ha Ha --- I got a good laugh out of that one. --- You made my day.

You bring up a good point. I am a Canadian citizen married and living in Virginia. If I were back in Canada and got shot by a shooter (which would be rare to be honest) I would have not paid a cent to be treated in a hospital. Never paid for any health care. I know you all hear that our health care is subprime...but you only hear bad things about Canadian health care but is not true.I am 58 and did not move here until I was 53. I always had wonderful coverage and never paid a cent. I also did not have to wait for anything. Such a lie about Canadian Health Care. We do not have to deduct anything on our pay for health care, however we do pay higher sales taxes. I do think a user tax is a better way to pay for benefits.

Not surprising that "Canadian health care" is better than Obamacare.  That's not really saying much.

Our health care was good, but our health care system was bad and Obamacare is not the answer to fixing it.

You say you "never paid a cent".

But you did pay "higher sales taxes".

So, you probably paid several cents.

The Great White North has had a better system than ours since long before Obama was born. But you did a nice deflection, just the same.

Good try, but the fact remains that Obamacare is far from perfect.

We need to either do health care the right way or don't do it at all.

It is never the right time to do the wrong thing, and we all know that Obamacare is the wrong thing.

But, thanks for the nice words.

Fenway -- You continue to be critical of the Affordable Care Act but offer little in the way of alternatives.  Yes many of us would all like a "Medicare for all" type of plan that takes out the middleman---the health insurance companies.  But that has about as much chance of passing in Congress as setting up a colony on the moon.

You have stated in more than one post "We need to either do health care the right way or don't do it at all."  Or words similar.

But despite my requests for you to explain what the "right way" is, you refuse...saying that's not your job.

Until you can offer some constructive alternatives that have any chance in hell of passing Congress, I cannot take your criticism seriously.  It's just bluster...the same thing that Mitt Romney is doing...criticizing and criticizing but offering nothing as viable alternatives...NOTHING.

Your statement "we all know that Obamacare is the wrong thing" shows stupidity and ignorance.  Who is "we all?"  Ask all the people currently benefiting from the act what they feel.  And when 2014 comes around and people actually understand what's in the act instead of falling for the Fox News lies, then the vast majority of Americans will be for it.

And the Canadian system would be a vast improvement over what we had before the ACA...and yes even better than the ACA...but no chance of ever getting passed in Congress.

    Schmidt,

You can take my "criticism seriously" or not, that's your choice.

This forum is about expressing ideas and opinions...you have yours, I have mine, everyone has their own.  Why does it bother you so much to have different opinions expressed on this forum?  You against freedom of speech?  Some absolutely are, you know.  They will tolerate no speech which expresses ideas and opinions that do not match their own.

I refer to those as "close minded" people, and there are lots of them on BOTH sides of the political aisle, maybe even some on this forum.

How many members are on this forum?  I  would bet that there's not a single one that I agree with 100% of the time or disagree with 100% of the time.  I think respectful debate is a good thing...some people do not seem to share that view.

Wouldn't the world be a dull place if we all thought exactly the same?

Who is "we all"?  Reasonable people, that's who.  People who can see both sides of an issue and make a decision or form an opinion without being blinded by the ideology of the Donkey or the Elephant.

"the Canadian system"  has "no chance of ever being passed".  Well, that's YOUR opinion.  I think it CAN be passed, not real soon, not easily, but eventually I think it would have a chance.  Too many politicians are OWNED by big health care and big pharma, so TODAY it may have no chance.  TOMORROW...?

For many years women could not vote.  African Americans could not eat at the same lunch counter as whites.  Things change, and not fast enough sometimes, but they do change.

Does it upset you that I express a differing opinion?

Myself, I prefer the Biblical approach to healthcare plus it's cheaper: cast out more demons and kiss ER's goodbye

Our heath care technology is certainly the world's best, but our health care system that uses those high tech medical gadgets on only those who can afford it of buy insurance sucks.

Since you're down on ACA, please outline for us your ideas on fixing or replacing it

    Already asked and answered.

The "Canadian health system" would be a good model.

The private insurance companies and the ambulance chasing lawyers are two of the main things that are wrong with our health care "system" today.

Obamacare doesn't solve either of these two problems.

It's never the right time to do the wrong thing.

What planet are you coming from with these comments fenway, the Republican planet? Do you have any idea what the Canadians system is compared to Obama Care? In the Canadian system doctors make three times less than an American doctor. How many doctors here want that? None! Ambulance chasers and medical law suites are driving up our health care, wrong again, that is the typical Republican answer to Obama Care, it is an extreme lie! Sorry again, but health care and auto insurance are two separate insurances, one has nothing what so ever to do with the cost of the other, again, an outright Republican lie.
I remember the Bush saying “if you think public health care is good, ask a Canadian” what they think about their health care.  Well, everyone I asked to date has only good to say about it, once again, a Republican lie about health care.

The only reason you hate Obama Care is because your favorite sports team hates Obama Care.  I am willing to bet you don’t have a clue what Obama Care is do you?  It is clear you don’t have a clue about Canadian health care, even after being told by a Canadian it is good, man I bet that threw you for a Republican loop.  I know what you are thinking; the Canadian is wrong, but in reality, anyone who votes Republican without millions in the bank is wrong.

America rates 33rd in the world when it comes to taking care of Americans medically.  Without insurance and without being in prison, you are going to die in America without health care, once you get old enough or unlucky enough to get sick.  I only had to hear one thing to know Obama Care is good, when the medical insurance companies called it bad.  With Obama Care, the medical insurance companies won’t profit the ten trillion in ten years like they will now, with no change to health care in America.  If the Republicans win the presidency, we will be back to the old system of health care insurance companies taking Americans medical dollars.  I could go on, but already I am getting sick from thinking about the Republican lies you brought back from your planet.  You expect people to feel sorry for the insurance companies, sorry, I'm not a Republican insurance company owned Republican.  This is why Republicans hate Obama Care, Obama Care hurts the Republicans masters.  If it wasn't for lies, the Republican Party would have nothing to say about Obama Care.

    united,

You certainly are fired up about this issue.

    You are also very confused.

My use of the term "ambulance chasing lawyers" has nothing to do with auto insurance.  It is a term to describe lawyers who agressively "chase" medical lawsuits.  Mostly frivolous lawsuits.  And we ALL pay the price.

Neither American doctors NOR American patients want anything to do with the Canadian health system.  It may be better than the half-ass system known as Obamacare, however.  And, eventually, I think we may get a "Canadian" style system in this country.

Our government needs to either do health care the right way, or not at all.

Once again, auto insurance does not have anything to do with the term "ambulance chasing lawyers".

Hope this clears things up for you.

Maybe Canadian physicians and hospitals in Candida are living as high on the hog as in the States, so what extra Canadians pay in taxes to support it is minimal.

Question:  If the health care system in "Candida" is so great why don't we adopt their system for our own?

Answer:  The insurance industry, big pharma, and big healthcare absolutely OWN our politicians, that's why.

I'm not against a Canadian type system.

    I'm against a half-ass system like Obamacare.
