Canada TAR SANDS OIL much more dangerous than "crude" oil

HERE is an "eye-opening" article about Pipelines full of Canadian TAR SANDS OIL that burst, leaving a "leak" of millions of gallons of that toxic mess into our U.S. waterways. This was in July 2010, (2 years ago) and has NOT BEEN CLEANED UP YET.  The Oil company always said they would be able to detect any leaks and take rapid action to protect the waterways from pollution. But instead they ignored multiple alarms, misdiagnosed the problem, & used the wrong solution, which only made things worse. A clean up which was supposed to take only 180 days (6 months) has taken 2 YEARS, and it is not really cleaned up yet, & probably never will be.

Let this be a clue as to what will happen in ANY part of America, as the XL TransCanada Pipeline is trying to buy their way thru the central part of America, to distribute their toxic TAR SANDS OIL all the way to the Gulf of Mexico, so they can put it on ships going to China. They do not have the technology to protect our environment from their poison products, nor the ethics to admit it. They just take for granted, like the BP oil rig in the Gulf, that somehow no accidents will happen, & if they do, NO PROBLEM, we can just let oil spew into our waters (of the Gulf) for 6 months or so, until every sea creature & bird is contaminated with their toxic goo. Now we can see what happened in the Gulf with the BP spill, where there are sea creatures with no eyes, mutants, skin falling off, gross tumors all over their bodies, in extreme pain & grotesque. It is a sin against God. But will they give up their greedy drilling practices?  NO. They are fulfilling the Biblical prophesy that the ocean will turn to "wormwood" and 1/3 of all sea creatures will die, with the water being turned to blood. It is horrible beyond imagining, but they are going to continue doing it, FULL SPEED AHEAD.

The Article below (in 3 links) proves that the TAR SANDS OIL is much worse than ordinary "crude" oil, since it does not float on top of the water, so we could detect it easier and "skim it off" ---- No, it sinks to the bottom of the river bed, so as not to be easily detected, & almost impossible to get rid of it. The submerged oil clings to anything, & kills creatures of the lakes and streams. Partially due to the toxic mix of chemicals (like benzene) which is added to the Bitumen (tar) so it will flow thru a pipeline. This pollutes the water so bad, it can't be used for swimming, or fishing, or recreational use. And of course it would be deadly for drinking it. The SMELL of it alone is enough to cause serious illness.

PLEASE READ THIS ARTICLE:  We MUST STOP the Canadian TAR SANDS OIL coming thru U.S. Rivers & Aquifers. The central Aquifer is a special feature that produces most fresh water for drinking & irrigation for 5 states. The Ogallala Aquifer has a fragile ecosystem that can be ruined by ONE LEAK of that toxic crude oil. That will impact the drinking water for many millions of people, not to mention livestock and croplands. This goes also for all FUTURE GENERATIONS. We must not let the greed of a few outweigh the needs of all of us ordinary citizens, who depend on the common sense and decency of our govt to protect us from devastation. PLEASE SPEAK UP for the people who do not have the money to fight the giant oil industries, or we will be doomed, like the poor mutant grotesque creatures dying in the Gulf of Mexico.

(Thank You for reading this --- and God Bless You). Please write to Hillary Clinton (Secretary of State) about this. Since it is an international pipeline that comes from Canada, she will have a part in the decision, and the State Dept may even have the FINAL DECISION.

    Eternal Flame:

You are ABSOLUTELY CORRECT about the tar sands in Alberta.

I did some fairly extensive research about "fracking" earlier this year. You can read my opinion at the link shown below:

    http://tohell-andback.blogspot.com/2012/01/freaking-fracking-fiasco.html

However, the MOST compelling argument against the tar sands mining was the TED conference speech given by Garth Lenz. When my wife saw this video, she WEPT.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=84zIj_EdQdM

Mr. Lenz's speech is over 17 minutes long, but is worth watching in its entirely. Of particular interest is the segment starting about 9 minutes in ....

House Speaker John Boehner has a financial interest in SEVEN companies that are involved in tar sands mining in Alberta. As a result, he would profit PERSONALLY if the
Keystone XL pipeline ever got built. No matter how you look at that , that's a violation of ethics.

As you might suspect, the Koch brothers also have investments in Alberta.

And not only are all these issues extremely important--damn Boehner anyway--any oil delivered through this pipeline would be mega-more expensive to whoever buys it, maybe not the initial price of the oil, BUT its processing to finally arrive at the normal distillation products, such as gasolines, etc. This is because this is DIRTY oil, and would have to go through how many steps to even approach the quality of U.S. and imported directly-pumped crude oils. So, who would this benefit beside the miners and possibly the investors? In my opinion NO ONE. Insofar as more jobs, there would only be a minimal number, due to there having to be pipeline stations and repair workers. There might be additional hires at facilities where this dirty oil would have to be cleaned, but since this oil is targeted for foreign destinations, perhaps those "cleaning" stations would also be foreign. I say the risk is way higher than any possible reward.

one question that I would to ask is simply why not build a new refinery at the border that can handle the inflow and put the distillates into the current pipelines we have already.
