Interesting list I ran across in a recent article.  Here's a list of the 5 ways Republicans have sabotaged job growth during Obama's first term as President, according to ThinkProgress.org:

    1. Filibustering the American Jobs Act.
    2. Stonewalling monetary stimulus.
    3. Threatening a debt default.
    4. Cutting discretionary spending in the debt ceiling deal.
    5. Cutting discretionary spending in the budget deal.

What do you think?  I'm thinking that's pretty accurate.  Anything left out?  What would be your list?

The article goes into detail on each point here:  http://digg.com/newsbar/topnews/5_ways_republicans_have_sabotaged_job_growth_1

Another perspective on job growth is provided by the Economic Policy Institute, July 6, 2012: Three years into recovery, just how much has state and local austerity hurt job growth?

You really need to refer to the graphs.  Some of their observations:

"While jobs fell much further and faster during the Great Recession than in the previous two recessions, job growth in the current recovery is similar to job growth by this point in the previous two recoveries, just slightly lagging job growth following the recession of 1990-91 and outpacing job growth following the recovery after the 2001 recession."

"The most glaring weakness in the current recovery relative to previous ones is the unprecedented public-sector job loss seen over the last three years."

Considering the effect of public sector jobs lost and the resultant loss in other sectors because of the negative stimulative effect, the EPI analysis concludes that "if it weren’t for state and local austerity, the labor market would have 2.3 million more jobs today – and half of these jobs would be in the private sector."

For a fuller analysis and the graphs, click on the link and see.

The loss of public sector jobs at the federal, state and local government is the leading cause of the slow recovery from the Great Recession.  That's what "shrinking government" does to the economy.  Austerity programs at all levels prolong the recession. And yes, our government is effectively practicing austerity when it should be spending big time not only in federal programs, but also in grants to the states so they can sustain their programs.

The Republican Tea Party won't let that happen as per the list stated in the ThinkProgress article.  We need to vote out of office all Tea Party sabotagers. That won't happen either given the state of our politics.

Yeah, California's creditors have a shit fit about 5% state deficits.

States and localities are subject to market funding constraints.

So when state revenue drops....it's a big problem.

That's why MMTers supported federal disbursements to the states, and even Obama proposed "revenue sharing" (which is out of paradigm, but we'll take it).

Republicans, of course, blocked these proposals.

    And why?

    Because they are terrorists.

    Jesus freak spit these words:

“Or maybe we could still blame Bush. How naive can one be?”

Do you really think the destruction of America caused by Bush clans and Regan should just be forgotten after a few years?  Their destruction of America will be felt for decades to come.  If you do make it to heaven, you won’t see either one of those money owned killers of America’s future there.

When I hear the words job growth only one word comes to mind, China.  The tax cuts for the very rich from the Bush oil clan has given the very rich the money they needed to move America jobs out of country and into the hands of China Children.  The China job creators that owned the Bush clans and Regan, are the reason we have to keep wondering, why is there no work in America.
