Anderson Cooper's sexual orientation has long been a part of anchor celebrity gossip.  Most have assumed for years that he is a homosexual.  But, he has never publicly confirmed nor denied this rumors and speculations, until now.  He finally publicly came out of the closet today in a recent interview, having this to say:

"The fact is, I'm gay, always have been, always will be, and I couldn’t be any more happy, comfortable with myself, and proud."

He also discusses his reasons for keeping these facts obscured for so long. He writes, "I've always believed that who a reporter votes for, what religion they are, who they love, should not be something they have to discuss publicly."

I like that.  I've always respected Anderson Cooper.  He is a good anchor and reporter.  I'm glad he got to put this behind him, make it official and do it on his own terms.

I think he had a decent reason for keeping it a secret for so long. Cooper has never really been an activist. He always reports the news without bias. He says now, though, he thinks that his secrecy has made people think that he was "uncomfortable, ashamed or even afraid." But that isn't the case at all.

There have been many TV celebrities and politicians that have come out of the closet.  Most appear to be liberal although the GOProud organization has been a strong advocate for the LGBT community and taking a lot of heat for it within their own party.

Being gay and liberal is becoming much easier. Not so for the conservatives.

"If the Supreme Court says that you have the right to consensual sex within your home, then you have the right to bigamy, you have the right to polygamy, you have the right to incest, you have the right to adultery. You have the right to anything...Whether it's polygamy, whether it's adultery, whether it's sodomy, all of those things, are antithetical to a healthy, stable, traditional family." -- Rick Santorum

That's not very encouraging for Republican politicians to come out of the closet. They have a long way to go yet and their closet is pretty big.

What business is it of our if Anderson Cooper is gay or straight? Why do you feel you have to announce from on high.  Cant we get passed this "validation" reporting? The current American left - as it calls itself - is so sad. They - the GLBT community - on one day will say " will report that a person's sexuality is no one else's business, but the very next day if someone popular or famous is out or outed here  come the mighty left. Grow up folks.

When a people try to oppress a specific group, oppression that has resulted in violence, it takes a bit of courage to come out. This is an issue that absolutely needs validation for those. To show the LGBT community that they should not be fearful of coming out, that people support them and are behind them. This would not be an issue if the religious right wasn't so hostile to the LGBT community.

We have grown up. The day that some well known person coming out as gay is not news will be a great day. But as long as they are oppressed and considered lesser citizens I will absolutely show my support.

Never even thought about it.  He's an attractive man both inside and out, always thought so, always will.  Gay or not, he's an excellent reporter and that's all I care about as far as his work goes.  Personally, I'm so happy for him that he's been able to open up and be himself.  What a weight off the shoulders that must be.  What a shame he felt the need to keep it hidden for so long.  Wake up people.  He is who he is just as you are who you are.  Love him at his best or leave him at your worst.  <3 to you Anderson.

    Get Real
This guy has been on the air for years, bashing Guy's, religions, people and anythig else that will make him stand out in the news and make him money. I think he has deceaved the american poblic, by putting on a straight business man type demeaner and honest guy look. How different is he from Tigar? Worse, atleast Tigar admitted his falts and gladding took his licks. What is Cooper going to do? put himself on the avaliable list?

When has he been bashing gays? Cooper is one of the most fair and balanced reporters there is. What faults does Cooper need to admit to? How is being gay even closely related to being unfaithful? I don't remember him bashing religion. He may have shown how ridiculous of an idea religion is but I don't remember him bashing it in anyway. Do you have any examples?
