From the MUST READ article Congressmen Seek To Lift Propaganda Ban  , here is the first 3 paragraphs, explaining this disturbing news:

An amendment that would legalize the use of propaganda on American audiences is being inserted into the latest defense authorization bill, the NDAA of 2011.

The amendment would “strike the current ban on domestic dissemination” of propaganda material produced by the State Department and the Pentagon, according to the summary of the law at the House Rules Committee's official website.

The tweak to the bill would essentially neutralize two previous acts—the Smith-Mundt Act of 1948 and Foreign Relations Authorization Act in 1987—that had been passed to protect U.S. audiences from our own government’s misinformation campaigns.

Okay.  I was already pretty shocked and shaken to learn that the NDAA purposefully included verbiage that made it legal to indefinitely detain U.S. citizens, effectively giving our government an easy loophole to fully eliminate our rights to due process.

That was bad enough.  And, legitimate cause for social backlash. But, now they are adding an amendment that deliberately legalizes propaganda, if this article is true, that is.  I am at a loss for words.

... Our government is getting desperate for control.  Used to be they just did this kinda stuff behind our backs, ninja-style, all illegal like.  Now, they are forcing precedent setting legislation into the judicial system, giving them full power to lie to ALL of us, whenever they want, for any purpose that THEY want.

The word propaganda carries a lot of negative weight and connotation.  And, it should.  It should elicit thoughts of Germany... I hate to say that, but damn.  I can't believe this.  Please, someone tell me I'm overreacting and that this article is fake.  Please tell me that the United States government didn't just legalize propaganda.  PLease?!?
