What is the point of so many Republican debates?

I've watched so many clips of Republican debates, week after week, that it is playing like the movie, Ground Hog Day. Does anyone see any value in these? Is it simply an excuse to slam "Obamacare," the unemployed, the poor, etc without addressing jobs? Or is it just entertainment for the networks?

At the least ... to have us laughing ... loudly!

I wonder how come no one reported this exchange on last Tuesday:

CAIN: I would raise a wall between us and Mexico with (such and such properties).

PERRY: It would imply between 15 and 30 years to be completed

BACHMANN: I would build a double wall with a neutral (no man's land, I -geebee090 - believe) area in between.

Most probably the wording is not accurate but the meaning and the ideas are accurate!

My friends and I shared a long laugh...

You gotta admit, they're worth a million laughs. Did you see the Las Vegas fight between Romney and Perry?  Come on now, it was pretty funny.

Back in 2008 Obama coined the term "pride in ignorance" when Fox News and others demonized his suggestion for inflating tires to improve gas mileage. That term applies very well to all the Republican "fence solutions." Remember Rand Paul's proposal from his 2010 campaign...build an invisible fence...like the kind that controls our pets from wandering out of the yard. He didn't elaborate about how this would work, but it played well with his audience.

On a different note, what kind of an audience cheers when Cain demonizes the unemployed? Who are these people that supposedly represent American family values?

It's all a big act to keep Americans from voting for Ron Paul in 2012.  It won't work Americans are well aware of the Bilderberg connections with the other Republican SHAMDIDATES !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Gingrich is appalled, what a laugh. The media makes it impossable for decent people to run for President, he's right thats why republicans are stuck with the ignorant chacters such as himself that are the GOP top picks.

I feel like all the debates are necessary. Since the only one on stage that can form a coherent sentence is Ron Paul, the other Republicans need 100 or so debates to have enough time to form enough words to make their point (I'm assuming they have one).

I know you guys think there have been too many GOP debates, but think back five years. The Dems had just taken back the House and Senate in the 2006 midterms. To me, it feels like Hillary, Obama, and Edwards began their campaigns immediately. I think they may have had quite a few debates, perhaps beginning in 2007? I do remember there at least being some
televised Democrat forums pretty early on.
