According to teachersalaryinfo.com, the average salary for a teacher as of 2009 was $49,900. This increased from $46,155 the year before and $44,500 the year before that. Those numbers rank at the midway point for all states. For example, in 2009, Texas ranked 23rd on pay.
Of course, pay seems to be rising for a few reasons, unions and inflation. That's fairly typical. And decent pay. Not great for such a demanding job, but good. Summers off. You can grade papers from home. Several paid holidays. Etc, Etc. My question is should we be paying our teachers more money and how should it be structured? Meaning should pay be incentive based our tenure based or some combination?
