Pence backed down probably because he knew siding w/ his boss was either the wrong thing to do, or, he finally realized the whole world was watching, and he didn't want to make the mistake of being part of Trump's coup or insurrection attempts.
We could look at Pence as being a victim of circumstance, what was he to do? Stick it out, stay as VP, or, resign? Like many other republicans who didn't act or say anything about Trump's previous actions, they were fit to be tied, once the insurrection began. History will remember how republicans remained silent through Trump's 4 years, but people will forget how bad things really went south.
Supposedly, according to msm, 4 were killed, and 50 + or - were arrested. That's a small number of arrests. How are authorities going to secure the inauguration with the rest of these kinds of people running around DC with firearms and other weapons? How do they protect? IMHO, I don't think it should be an outdoor event as planned, I believe it should be virtual and shown on screens like there are in football and baseball stadiums to prevent physical attacks.
