Unemployment and then disability?

Hello all - my father is 75 with Parkinson's, got laid off from his work-from-home job during the pandemic. His Parkinson's has continued to progress and he can no longer look for new work nor expect to be able to work a job.

My question is, are there any issues with filing for disability (due to my Parkinson's) directly after his unemployment period ends? Or will they have issues with that? Note, he is currently collecting social security as well.

Thank you so much for your guidance.

My understanding is you can't collect both at the same time. A case can be made that SS is not enough to live on. With out knowing all the facts or complete story I would not be revealing information that looks like unemployment was being collected while unable to work. I'm sure that isn't the case but it can be construed. Good Luck. Just another reason for progressive rule.

In some circumstances, you can receive both Supplemental Security Income (SSI) and Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) benefits at the same time. ... To receive concurrent benefits, you must be approved for SSDI, but receive low monthly payments through the program.

Best thing to do is contact your local SS office and ask questions rather than ask questions in a public forum because you'll get all kinds of answers which might not be reliable information nor accurate pertaining to your/his situation.
