What is the point of having the congress go through the process of asking questions when the nominee refuses to even answer legal questions that reveal qualifications.

"Judge, have you read the US Constitution?"

"Sorry Senator, but I can not answer your question because the constitution is a legal document that might be part of a future case before the SC"

You get the idea, the entire day was filled with non answered questions, which can be clarified as this:

"Judge, do you support a woman's right to choose?"

"I currently evoke my fifth amendment right not to answer that question"

This whole thing is an farce. The Dem's never should have participated and just walked away from all of this. I guess they are too stupid to use the same tactic as the GOP did with Obama. But I guess they want their face on the news; an awful stupid bunch. It will be an disaster for the DNC for years to come, but don't realize it. Brainless for sure because "catholics/evangelicals" run the show.

Barrett has engaged in obfuscation, deflection and verbal tap dancing. The claim that stare decisions applies if people are basically happy with a decision and doesn’t apply if people are not is bullshit. She knows it. She will be guided by her inner “policy positions” (more verbal tap dancing) and will happily legislate from the bench. Striking down a law is just as much legislating as congress actually passing a law that overturns turns a previous law. Now we will get to see 50 states legislating all sorts of bullshit on abortion and gay rights just so this religionist can feel good about herself. I do agree that there are laws that should be examined via cases brought before the court even though the SCOTUS does not have that power constitutionally. I simply am tired of these justices who are opposed to both abortion and gay marriage in particular sitting in their chairs during hearings being unwilling to come out and say what they have said in their writings and verbal commentary.

Just so ya'all know, serving on the bench, this Trump appointee sided with corporate cases 80% of the time, giving the little people not even 1/2 a chance of winning their cases before her, that says something about her mindset, along with her religious fanaticism and refusal to answer questions directly, should be reasons for disqualification to any court. She is tainted. In her brain/thinking.

See my "thread" above yours. It does not matter; the whole country is now being run by an "bunch" of "billionaires" who pump in hoards of money to get it their way; they even bribe the Supreme Court.

If the Dem's would've had an "backbone" then they should never even "talked" to this "monster" and done the same thing as the GOP did with Obama's appointment of someone for the Supreme Court. Especially so close to an election it shows how ignorant stupid they are.

It's too late to do anything now. The political right has enough justices and judges throughout the Federal judiciary to strike down political reforms for a generation or more. The courts should have been an issue for Democrats long ago even before Obama was elected in 2008. However the party is dominated by centrists who won't to fight to protect the Affordable Care Act or abortion rights. These Republican lite politicians are only concerned with advancing the interests of their wealthy backers and avoiding fights over culture war issues like reproductive choice. The ACA and Roe Versus Wade will be reversed. Moreover you can forget civil rights protections for LGBTQ people. This is what happens when you don't stand for anything and fight.

Just look at what's happening on the campaign trail Biden isn't railing against Barrett's confirmation or the threat rightwing judges pose to healthcare for millions of people or women's right to choose in particular. He's mumbling platitudes and demonizing Trump. Just like most Democrats Biden doesn't realize or even care about mobilizing the party's base in mass to fight for an agenda.

Sorry to say that this country is been taken over by the "evangelicals" don't forget Pelosi and others in the DNC are " catholic"; Biden is even worse. They have become "weak" and don't dare to go in against the "church". Doing this they are digging their own grave. The Trump party plays their "church" game such way that the hands of the Dem's are tied all the way.

I bet the "bitch" will be appointed. Congratulations America; this country will never be the same again. Let alone be an "example" for the world. I've got to run, to throw up.

Wearing costumes and carrying signs, thousands of people gathered for the Women’s March in downtown Washington and in cities across the country Saturday to protest the Supreme Court nomination of Judge Amy Coney Barrett and to build momentum to vote President Trump out of the White House.

Nearly four years after an election that galvanized millions of protesters to march in cities nationwide — many of them for the first time — Women’s March leaders hoped to bring a final show of force before Nov. 3 with a rally in the nation’s capital and in 440 marches across all 50 states.

I thought that Whitehouse's presentation was masterful. Here's the entire speech:

One of the people mentioned in his presentation was Leonard Leo, who is central to a lot of the "dirty tricks" that the Republicans are engaged in:

Having watched part of the hearings and highlight clips, it appears to many of us that she was just going through the motions knowing that she didn't have to work for the nomination. Just don't say anything controversial that might upset a Republican, but no attempt to appease or win over Democrats. It's a fait accompli. She is the rock solid reliable Federalist Society nominee that will make the evangelicals and other staunch conservatives happy for the next 40 years.

And yes I also watched Sheldon Whitehouse's presentation on dark money. She appeared to listen intently but like everything else it will be met with a shrug. The dark money has already spoken with her nomination and we cannot do anything about it.

Sorry Schmidt. the weaklings in the Dem's party refused to do the same thing as the GOP did when Obama wanted his appointment approved. So an self inflected wound, because Pelosi and Biden are both "evangelicals" so what do you expect?

Sorry again, this country will end up as France did in end 1700; it will take an revolution and an Napoleon to change all of this. It is going to be the "church" and the "rich" who will be running this country. So Biden (if he "wins"?) will only be used as an "puppet" for them. Amen.

The term “court packing” was coined by opponents of a judicial reform bill proposed in 1937 by Franklin Roosevelt. While it’s often presented as if that bill would have filled the Supreme Court chambers with a football team worth of justices, in fact it would have allowed the president to appoint justices for for each seated justice over the age of 70, up to a maximum of six justices. The idea was that, since Supreme Court seats are for life, it’s very easy to end up with a room full of people whose ideas are generations out of synch with either the ideas or needs of the nation. See ,,, just about every Supreme Court ever. Roosevelt’s opponents successfully vilified the idea, and the bill was ultimately stalled in the Senate. However, just raising the idea seemed to get the conservatives-laden court to suddenly shift its ideas on significant rulings, such as deciding that a minimum-wage law was not unconstitutional after all, despite what it had ruled just one year earlier.

Roosevelt’s bill may have failed, but the official size of the court has changed at least seven times, sometimes with no more lofty goal than specifically allowing a new president to appoint more justices.

Biden can point out that the court has already been packed by Republicans who have seated 15 justices in the last 50 years, a period in which Democrats have only named four. If that had all occurred as a coincidence of when Justices happened to die, it would be one thing. It hasn’t. Not only has there been deliberate manipulation of openings by a Republican Senate that refused to give a hearing to a nominee from a Democratic president, there also has been more than one occasion of direct coordination between the Republicans on the court and sitting justices, as happened when Justice Kennedy negotiated his own retirement to give Trump an additional slot.

The idea that the court is, or ever was, apolitical, is … pure malarkey. And Biden should not have it.

Yes Arizona; nothing in this country is "honest" everything is convoluted or "fake"; our Constitution is totally out of date as well the "system" here; the super rich are the only one's who profit from it . Show me an law here without "loopholes" or tricks in it. Even the election ballots have "legal" tricks in it as Schmidt clearly indicated. Absolutely nothing here is straight forward and honest; the elections are an total "mess", because every idiot is allowed to tinker with it and earn "money" from it.

I've never seen such in Europe; Elections there are an non-event and hardly any "money" is involved. But here it is the "money" which "drives" everything. Brains are optional. The rich here only help to elect someone (with hoards of money) who they can use and manipulate and mostly they "win". Sorry but this country is beyond "repair" ; it is impossible to undo all the stupidity here; it may take 10 years or more if they really want an "solid" reform.
