the 25th amendment

The Murdoch-owned New York Post thinks that Nancy Pelosi is attempting a coup by starting to look into the 25th amendment:

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., introduced legislation Friday that would create a bipartisan commission to determine a sitting president’s ability to carry out the duties of the office.

At a press conference unveiling the legislation with its original author, Rep. Jamie Raskin, D-Md., Pelosi said the measure is not intended specifically for President Donald Trump, but she suggested he was the impetus for needing it.

“This is not about President Trump. He will face the judgement of the voters, but he shows the need for us to create a process for future presidents,” she said. "This legislation applies to future presidents, but we are reminded of the necessity of action by the health of the current president."

The commission would consist of 16 members, chosen both by Democrats and Republicans, who are medical experts or former high-ranking executive branch officials such as former members of a president’s Cabinet. The 17th member, the chair, would be selected by the rest of the commission’s members.

Under the legislation, Congress could pass a concurrent resolution requiring the commission to conduct a medical exam of the president to determine his or her capacity to continue the job. The commission would then report its findings to Congress, and if it found that presidential incapacity exists, the vice president would immediately assume the role of acting president.

When the 25th Amendment was ratified after Kennedy’s assassination, Congress did not create that independent body. Raskin says lawmakers should now pass the measure to create such a body for future presidents.

Although the legislation will likely pass in the House, there is no chance it would pass in the Senate, since McConnell is STILL sitting on 275 bi-partisan bills, and is concentrating ONLY on judicial appointmetns.

Although the events of recent weeks have reminded voters that Trump is unfit to be president, Pelosi's move will simply reinforce that message - which will likely cost Trump some votes.

It's a great idea that unfortunately has a zero percent chance of happening during this Presidency. Although I could potentially see a Biden Presidency show willingness to sign it into law.

The American people have a right to know if their President is mentally incapacitated and unable to conduct their duties. What if Donald, in a fit of mania after losing the election, decides to start a nuclear war with one of the countless countries he's threatened these past four years? Right now there is literally nothing and nobody who could stop him.

You're right Jared, the man seems unstable and unpredictable, we should all be worried. I am, but am hoping the election goes smoothly.

One of the requirements of invoking the 25th is due to MENTAL INCAPACITY of the president.

If you read Heather's letter this morning, it's quite obvious this guy is completely bonkers>

" The major, obvious, in-your-face story of the day is that the president is melting down. He has spent much of the last two days calling in to the Fox News Channel and Rush Limbaugh’s radio show and ranting in a manic way that suggests he is having trouble with the steroids he is taking for his illness.

In an interview with Rush Limbaugh today, Trump boasted that “our nuclear is all tippy top now,” and said about Iran, “If you f*** around with us, if you do something bad to us, we’re gonna do things to you that have never been done before.” He tweeted that “Obama, Biden, Crooked Hillary and many others got caught in a Treasonous Act of Spying and Government Overthrow, a Criminal Act. How is Biden now allowed to run for President?” This is pure fiction, of course, but his campaign later put it in a fundraising email."

Other signs that the entire Republican Party is going down the rabbit hole:

Today, news broke that a teacher and two students from the school some of Barrett’s children attend have tested positive for coronavirus.

It doesn’t help that, when interviewed on MSNBC, White House spokesman Brian Morgenstern refused six times to say when Trump had last tested negative for coronavirus.

Biden, who was fine with doing the debate virtually, will appear alone in a town hall event on same night.

Although Trump has not yet been cleared for interactions with people again, today the White House announced that Trump has invited 2000 people for a rally on the South Lawn of the White House Saturday

Last month, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention drafted an order for masks on all public transportation, but Vice President Mike Pence, who heads the White House Coronavirus Task Force, refused even to discuss it.

Today, the second debate between Democratic challenger Jaime Harrison and Senator Lindsey Graham (R-SC) was cancelled when Graham refused to take a coronavirus test despite the fact he was exposed to the virus on October 1 at a meeting that included Mike Lee (R-UT) who has since tested positive. Graham is the chair of the Senate Judiciary Committee, and a positive test would delay the start of the Barrett hearings, slated for Monday.

Americans were already upset over the administration’s handling of the coronavirus and the resulting recession, but the superspreader event and Trump’s manic behavior since have made his polls crumble further. Republican strategist Ken Spain told Sahil Kapur of NBCNews, “The president has had possibly the worst two-week stretch that a candidate could have going in to the final month of an election.”

Yesterday, he told Fox News Channel personality Sean Hannity that Pence’s “best answer” at the vice presidential debate was when he refused to commit to a peaceful transfer of power in January.

    And ..

Here's am example of ow history repeats itself:

In all of this—except the Russia part—Trump looks oddly like President Andrew Johnson, who took over the White House after Abraham Lincoln’s death at the hands of an assassin. Johnson was a former Democrat, and could not stand the idea of the Republican government ending systemic Black enslavement and leveling the playing field among races. He wanted to reclaim the nation for white men. Convinced he was defending America from a mob and that his supporters must retake control of the government in the midterm election of 1866 or the nation was finished, Johnson became increasingly unhinged until he began to compare himself to both the martyred Lincoln and Jesus Christ. He called his congressional opponents traitors who should be executed.

Egged on by the president, white supremacist gangs attacked Black Americans and their white allies, convincing Johnson that his party would sweep the midterms and he would gain control of the government to end Black rights.

Voters heard Johnson, all right. They were horrified by his attacks on the government and the violence he urged. It was an era in which only white men could vote, but even so, they elected to office not Johnson’s white supremacists, but Johnson’s opponents. And they didn’t just elect enough of those reasonable men to control Congress… voters gave them a supermajority

Nice story Arizona. I have only one word for it: FORGET IT. Again one of those Constitutional things which don't work , especially in our present society. Lots of "words" only will be spent on this, but believe me no "deeds". Our lovely lawyers make sure of that. It does not matter how "nuts" this President gets. His "cult" will still support him regardless of how many lies he spews out. Especially the "evangelical cult" will love him, if he gets the "total screwed evangelical bitch" into the Supreme Court. So this 25th Amendment means shit, unless he (maybe) runs naked down the streets in Washington with the "bible" hanging around his neck.

Yes it will be an horrible day. Wake up Democrats and don't even talk to that woman. The GOP did the same with Obama's appointment; why don't the Dem's do the same thing? Are they really that stupid!!! Just act like if you are deaf and blind, then such appointment will fail as it did under Obama.

I guess the Dem's are too stupid to realize if she gets appointed that if (an big "if") they win nothing will gets done in their term.

Also it is obvious that Pelosi is an "evangelical" and actually does not dare to "act' as she should. That is what you get if you invite "beliefs" into an government.

As long as the "churches" peddle their influence then the "churches run the government but not the "brains".

Sorry this is not the Vatican, nor the "old" days when "catholics" were an "political burn the witches entity". Churches never should be involved in "governing"; leave that to the "earthly" people bound to this tiny planet.

Shaking my old tired head. How stupid can people here get; the Titanic is sinking due to pure stupidity.

    Simply not going to happen.

Anyone watch 60 Minutes last night ? The story on the Lincoln project was very good. I have much faith in their valuable contributions. Every single American is needed to stop this vile leader and his party. Hoping that Mr. Biden is reaching more and more people and making serious progress.

TJ Yes, I hope you are right; however if that "evangelical bitch" is going to be appointed, then I blame the Dem's, because as I did see they attended the "hearings; instead of "boycotting" them. They are absolutely the most stupid idiots I've ever seen; they refuse to do what the GOP did to them when Obama still was there. They can play the same game, but refuse to do so. Again an self inflicted wound!!!
