Oh, my God. As if 2020 wasn't already bad enough...enough the year from hell...now Ruth Bader Ginsburg has died...just as the Republicans hoped for.

There is NO WAY Trump will not try to ram through another Supreme Court Justice to screw this country for the next fifty years. My one chance - as a transgender woman - for equality, and fair treatment under the law...just died. America just died. Freedom just died.

Trump will try to ram another appointee...never mind all the bullshit talk about when Obama was in his last year, and Merrick Garland...we can argue that forever and they will equivocate...and find a way to ram through a horrible, hateful monster.

Sens. Mitt Romney, Lisa Murkowski, and Collins have gone on record saying they will not act on any appointee before January. I do not believe this...not for second. And even so...they could still move before Jan 20...even if Trump loses. We are screwed....screwed....screwed.

    United States: Born July 4, 1776 - Died September 18, 2020

    RIP, RBG.

I am hurting to the very core of my soul tonight. She was the one thing that stood in the way of utter hell.

Yes we all mourn the loss of Justice Ginsburg. America will feel her loss as the magnitude of her vacancy looms in our faces as McConnell and Trump make this into election issue. If Romney, Murkowski and Collins hold true to their words, we still need one more senator to stand up and put this matter of voting on the Senate floor to rest before the new president is sworn in. I am not hopeful...McConnell has his ways of twisting arms.

RIP Ruth Bader Ginsburg. Your last battle will be fought without you, but your presence will be felt.

TG, I feel the same; looking at the total picture of this country right now I indeed fear the worst, because by inviting the "mafia" into the W.H. this is the result. Sorry Pence, Jesus won't save this country, neither do you.

But again an self inflicted wound, because appointments to the Supreme Court never should be for "life"; maximum should be 3 terms of four years. Also any appointment should not be done via an Senate "Himmler" like McConnell using all kind of dirty tricks. But I fear if Trump gets re-elected we will for sure become an total dictatorship.

Looking at the total picture of "governance" in this country I give it an minus "zero" related to sticking to outdated useless un-enforceable laws and case laws which create all this mess. It is time for an total revamp of all our rules and outdated laws.

For instance, make the emolument clause an law with real defined penalties, define exactly the "limits" of Presidential "powers in an "operating manual" which also defines the penalties if not adhered too. And so on and on. There is an awful lot of cleanup required; if not done then in no time, we maintain another Hitler in power. RIP, RBG Amen.

Terribly sad day. She was a wonderful and massively important person. She will be missed.

Waiting 10 months by our last president was entirely wrong. That's a lesson that should never been repeated.

TG, I saw on TV that the LGBT society indeed is loosing an great supporter; I can fully understand your feelings; at least they don't have the craziness such as here in Europe; my daughter has no worries , like the people here. As long as things here are driven by the churches and idiots, I give it little hope that things here change for the better , unless Trump and his horrible cronies like McConnell/Barr gets thrown out and including of course himself.

Trump said something to the effect of "She was an amazing woman, whether you liked her or not" - which was code for, I didn't like her, I am glad she is dead, and I am being forced to say what I said instead of what I really think.

I know. There's times I wish I could be in Europe, because they treat their LGBTQ better.

TG, yes you are getting the picture; indeed if Trump gets re-elected as well is able to get another Trump "loyalist" in the Supreme Court, then people like you (and me) can forget it here. In this case also our "international relations" will be shredded and only Israel will be their buddy in crimes. They already started again to threaten Iran an lot more, so that also may become an new "war" etc. etc. So looking at the future of this country, it looks bleak. If Biden "wins" then even forget an Obama era like "that you can relax", because the "left overs" of the Trump "cult" will keep stirring the pot, especially related to Supreme Court actions, if Trump did manage to get someone elected before the "elections" took place.

Sorry to be so negative, but there are tough times ahead, even for the stock market etc.

Truthfully, I could not give a ripe FUCK about the Stock Market.

There's a lot of issues I care about...even issues I care about that do not impact me. But the Stock Market is not one of them.

The Stock Market is no longer an indication of a good economy...how well the average Jane or Joe Sixpack is doing...but only an indication of how well the assholigarchs are doing.

I care what happens on Main Street. I could give a rat's ASS what happens on Wall Street.

TG sorry, but it does matter; as history will tell you that an "crash" on the stock market has huge consequences for ALL people. Would you like to stand in line for hours to get an cold bowl of soup? Yes my parents and myself knew what famine is; they had the crash of 1933 and I as a kid was on food stamps just after WWII. Keeping Trump will just about guarantee that similar times are on the horizon, if you look at global warming and diseases, which causes lots of "migrants" and lost food supplies and famine, let alone not having jobs or any income. Especially nowadays with international connections/trade etc. which countries could be dependent on. The world picture is drastically changing, but not for the better.

I've always learned to look at the "combination" of all things in "one package"; everything is connected. I've noticed here that they don't learn to see an "whole picture" and have the "blinders" on and only concentrate on one thing at the time. Our government is just about the same; they "jump" all over the place but seldom get the "whole world picture" at any moment which may affect this country.

The point I was trying to make...is that when things go good on Wall Street....that does NOT seem to translate to things going well on Main Street. There was a time when it did. That time is gone.

National Catholic Reporter, September 21, 2020: Two Catholic women judges top short list as possible Supreme Court nominees

"WASHINGTON — Two Catholic women judges are on the short list of possible candidates to fill the vacant Supreme Court justice seat after the Sept. 18 death of Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg.

"The judges are Amy Coney Barrett, a federal appellate court judge in Chicago, and Barbara Lagoa, a federal appeals court judge in Atlanta.

"President Donald Trump told reporters the afternoon of Sept. 19, and rallygoers later that evening, that he intended to pick a Supreme Court nominee in the coming days, and it would likely be a woman."

    =============================

We don't know much about them except that they are both deeply religious. Trump could make his announcement Friday or Saturday. My prediction is Barbara Lagoa, the 52-year-old Miami-born daughter of Cuban exiles. She is perhaps somewhat less controversial than Barrett. Oh and it would help him with the Florida Latino vote. Astonished

Crazy for sure; that is really what this country need. No more abortions no more approval for LGBTQ people and everyone should go bravely to church in order to sell more snake oil. Typical America. Sick to the bone. Dem's should "boycot" any voting (for the Supreme Court) for any of these "indoctrinated "loyal" church bitches". Trump did so before, why not the Dem's? Amen

Just looking at the local Trump add's that makes you really sick; an add here says that Trump will make sure that all social services get expanded and improved and that Medicare will be fully supported. What an HUGE lie!!!

Also he showed an ex-soldier who got an "medal" for bravery from Obama, who now votes for him because he finds Biden too weak.

Yes how low can you go? I think he will go much "lower" than that, the coming month.

Sorry to say people I don't see any "strong" position of the Dem's, other than "words" only which evaporate into nowhere.

Indeed this country is going to hell.

Here's another reason Amy Coney Barrett should not be on the Supreme Court:

Two conservative Supreme Court justices are taking aim at the landmark case that legalized same-sex marriage across the U.S. in 2015.

Justices Clarence Thomas and Samuel Alito released a four-page opinion Monday about the religious liberty implications from the Obergefell v. Hodges decision.

Thomas and Alito argue that the decision threatens the religious liberty of Americans who believe that marriage is a “sacred institution” between a man and woman.

Monday’s opinion came as the court declined to hear the case involving Kentucky clerk Kim Davis, who made headlines in 2015 as she declined marriage licenses to gay couples, despite the Supreme Court ruling. Thomas wrote that he agreed with not taking up the case, because it didn’t “cleanly present” important questions raised about Obergefell v. Hodges.

Thomas and Alito ended the opinion saying the court’s decision in the Obergefell case has “created a problem that only it can fix,” suggesting there’s a possibility the justices could move to overturn the 2015 decision.
