Joe Biden website The website front page asks for donations, but as you scroll down you will see volunteer opportunities, news items, and half way down Joe's Vision, a list of the political issues of the day with Joe and Kamala's proposals. I've reviewed some of these and they are good. They are well thought out and go into depth on everything -- the Covid crisis education, heath care, LGBTQ community, racism, energy and environment, immigration and more. Each category has subcategories and links to go deeper. I was a big fan of HillaryClinton.com and I would say this website is on par with that. Any issue that you want to know where Joe and Kamala stand, you will most likely find it here.

DonaldTrump website This website likewise leads off with a donations page. At the top of the page is a list of menu picks, one of which is "promises kept". That is where you'll find a list of Trump accomplishments, many of which he takes credit for but had little involvement. The Economy and Jobs section is more extensive with a bullet point presentation going into the benefits of his tax cuts (mostly for the rich) but it has nothing on proposals for the next four years. The Energy and Environment section likewise has a bullet point presentation of achievements, but nothing going forward. The Healthcare section again has a lot of minor things passed by Congress and signed into law by the president to make it feel like he accomplished something. But it has zero mention of his efforts to repeal in it's entirety Obamacare and replace it.

Overall in digging in on selected topics of each website, I found Biden's website to be honest, informative and with lots of detail and references. Trump's website is a lot like his speeches...misinformation, exaggerations, and with next to nothing on what he wants to do in the next four years to make America great again, again. I browsed all over, but it's absent on proposals much like the Republican Platform for 2020. Nothing.

But as I learned in the 2016 election, Americans really don't give a shit about websites. They don't look at them. Voting is an emotional decision for them. Many are one issue voters or none at all...likeability, toughness, charisma, matter. Knowledge and experience is low on the criteria list.

Schmidt, indeed your last line says it all; most people here only care for themselves and their own wallet. It shows in how they vote. If Trump is an fantastic business man according to them they don't look at other things. As I've mentioned many times that the education here is at fault; they spent way too little time on "mental" issues or teach what "common sense" is all about or learn to analyze things before having an opinion. I noticed that when I started work here they act more like robots and only display what they did learn but never looked at the world with the question "why". I must say that in Europe the think farther that just absorbing what teacher or the church tells you.

But yeah by selecting Trump then you get the picture what is wrong here in the education and all the outdated "un-enforceable" laws/rules here.

Most people simply do not go to campaign websites. The have too short of an attention span. They go to social media and skim the headlines. They talk to friends and coworkers and they skim the absolute surface only. A small percentage care and seek information and further educate themselves. If 70% did that we would be better informed and make better choices. The Conman knows this and he will most likely win in November because he knows how to play the game. Biden is going to leave his basement after Labor day. What's 9 more days ? Part of a consolation speech. A man who's predicted every election since I think 84 said (on a You Tube video that I watched last night) that Trump wins a close race. I will see if I can find and add it. What's 9 more days when you have a great campaign website. So sorry if I seem negative but in the next 4 + years more people will be put onto the Supreme court and that's what's essentially important.

We have some long term members of this site who seem to visit or contribute every 2 weeks. Their input is very good and intelligent / informative. At this important time additional input is certainly encouraged. You know who I am suggesting.

TJ, most people here are "scared" especially to think farther (or never learned to analyze things in life), than they are already "indoctrinated" via their family or friends. An huge problem here is that people here don't dare to attack the church or their "appointed" leaders. Oh, it it such honor to visit the W.H. and meet Trump. I met Trump and told him he was "nuts" he did not like that, but in the Netherlands you always can go to your "boss" and tell him that's he's wrong or made mistakes. Here they are always are "acting" and don't dare; it must be the military up bringing or the church or something. The problem is they all act like "slaves" . Follow the mob.

This mentality will become the undoing of this country.

They are not scared, they are incapable of critical thinking skills. All part of the plan when they started dumbing down our educational system.

Another Sunday as I go between the morning news shows. Biden in his basement is all I hear. That's not inspirational at all. Guess what. Rumor is he may put a toe on the sidewalk after Labor day so we will have another round of people talking about the scared fragile man hiding. I ask, do you think you have this wrapped up ? I assure you that you don't. You could surely get better advice because most Democrats will vote for you and All Republicans will vote against you. 50% of D's vote sometimes and 100% of R's vote faithfully. You need to get Independent voters and Any undecided voters. While your ideas and plans are sound, your approach is seriously flawed. Hey Barack, it's being suggested that I am not doing very well. Do you think it's safe out there ? Yes Joe. Get busy.

I love this ticket but currently I wonder if we would be better off if Joe was trying to run for VP again. Not trying to be negative but the sand is quickly going through the hourglass and 4 more years of what we currently have is crippling our country. The I am not him approach is weak and ineffective. Uninspired and lazy. The Virus is bad and the world is packed full of crazy deranged citizens. Secret service are capable intelligent individuals. There's not time to waste so get to Kenosha and say the right things while denouncing violence by protesters. Say we support law enforcement and their difficult jobs. Get busy Joe or call Bernie and see if he's interested. Your losing time at a crucial juncture and you're not earning it. Nobody wants you in the streets of Kenosha but in the Mayor's office with 16 cameras is a good starting point. Get Julia Jackson and have lunch in the hotel conference room along with 10 other key individuals. Make better decisions now and don't waste another second. The 2024 election is the next chance for significant change. We need significant change in late January of 2021.

Respectfully, I disagree. At this point, anyone considering voting for Trump WILL vote for Trump.

The rest of us are so horrified at the possibility of another Trump term that we will be motivated to vote.

The dual-haters appear to be breaking Biden's way. The thing to focus on is making sure our votes GET THERE and are counted as cast.

Sorry TG the voting will be an disaster; Trump will make sure of that, with the help of his cronies. In Georgia they found 39 children who were used as sex slaves; likely kids from the border, but the GOP governor there does not care. That is the "new" America. Be proud of it.

And THAT is what I am worried about. If ever we needed outside UN Election Observers, this is the election we need them for.

TG, Ever been in Bogota, Columbia? I was, and just about got shot, luckily I sat behind an stone wall. This country is going the same way right now. It is the "system" here which is broken; outdated non-enforceable laws, no laws for Presidents, no law dictating that "loyalty" can't be used as an "bully/rip off " tactic. No "bribing" to get your way, no skimming "election" funds for yourself, not appointing people who don't have the qualifications for the job and are only "loyal". No sole pardoning power, which should be reviewed and "approved" before being applied by the majority of Congress. No partisan tricks with "polling" places and "gerrymandering" as well not having an uniform election system with uniform up to date election equipment; not getting rid of the "electoral college". It is time to get rid of an "two" partisan party system; the "middle" is negated. Also how is it possible, to get your whole family into the government "stealing" fortunes and are not qualified for the "ad-hoc" jobs which they likely screw up. Having an total unqualified "police force" which act as if they are still in the "army" and are trained in to "shoot" everything what moves. And I could go on and on . But yeah, this country just goes on, as if nothing is wrong and still thinks it is number one. Yes, this country is number one in stupidity as well did invite the "new" Romanov's who are only fully qualified to commit deceit and crime.

No, I have never been in South America and never plan to, either...it is a slaughterhouse for my people.

For real. Look at the lists for the Transgender Day of Remembrance every year, and you will see Brazil is the Trans Murder Capital of The World, and the rest of South America isn't much better.

Of course, at this rate, the United States could get that way, too...I am really becoming disillusioned with America anymore...this is no longer the country I learned about as a child.

I love the ideal of America, always have and always will. I hate our government...and I hate the fact that not only do we fall short of the ideal that we contend makes us great...but we cheerfully and gleefully refuse to even TRY to live up to that ideal...and yet still hold out the ideal as "evidence" of our "greatness."

The ideal is nice but without application it's useless.

I learned about that ideal...and how our government was supposed to work...as a six year old child watching Schoolhouse Rock on TV. It was done well, so that a six year old could get a basic understanding of how the government worked, and got you interested in learning more. Obviously, a six year old would not know much of the inner working of government, but as much as any six year old could be expected to understand. I was a precocious youth, and I have had a lifelong interest in government and politics because of Schoolhouse Rock. I always knew, ever since I saw "I'm Just A Bill" that I wanted to be part of that process some day. (For the heck of it, here is the video)

And as you may remember...this year, I finally tossed my own hat into that ring. I did not win my Primary...but it was my first rodeo. It will not be my last.

Your last para: ".... I learned about that ideal....... Is just as you say an"wish list". When I came here in 1986, I never dove into politics; I was too busy with my job. Until I met some people like Gingrich and Trump; even was at an party at Gingrich's house. With Trump, I wrote already about my meeting with him. At that time I started analyzing ( they do learn that in Europe, but not here) what the "culture' here is all about. It is who you know or are accepted by the "cult". That is Washington. The establishment has now changed drastically; Trump does not fit in with the established crowd there. That is why all the "friction" is happening. I consider all of this growing pains (of an country which is barely 350 years old), because they still don't understand that "governing" is more than just shaking hands and collecting "money".

In your case; they don't consider "happiness" as an "goal" neither are interested in people who are not like them.

Sorry, to say this society is built upon" greed" and you should "fit" in and don't complain and dance the way they like it.

They think that the sick and the "different" people should all start "begging" on their own; the government is certainly not interested to support people in certain situations.. Certainly that is not the case over in the Netherlands. Seeing here everyday on TV the begging for "money" for poor animals and kids who have cancer or calls for police funding etc. makes this an begging culture. The same as collecting money for the "candidates" ; elections should be without these things. The billionaires make good use of that; sorry there is nothing "democratic" in our elections. It is already corrupted before it even starts.

Bobby Azarian, PhD, Psychology Today, December 27, 2018: A Complete Psychological Analysis of Trump's Support

In comparing Trump versus Biden websites, one can certainly distinguish what is important to the respective supporters for each. I really liked Biden's website because it articulates in detail where he stands on important issues, and that I agree with him on those issues. You can get the same flavor from Trump's website...well sorta.

But Trump's supporters are hard to stereotype. I have shared the above link before in this website. Dr. Azarian lists 14 psychological phenomena that mostly pertain to "those supporters who would follow Trump off a cliff. These are the people who will stand by his side no matter what scandals come to light, or what sort of evidence for immoral and illegal behavior surfaces." Some individual embody more than one of these traits.

I think we all have cited one or more of these traits from time to time in describing Trump supporters. What is phenomenal to me is how he has been able to assemble such a diverse group of malcontents using fear, anger and hate to remake the Republican Party into a party of grievances, even though they are the party in power. Ignorance abounds.

Take a look at the list and pick your top choice to describe Trump supporters that you know. I know people who mostly relate to No. 14, racism and bigotry. Racism and bigotry is systemic in our society.

Your analyses misses the "question" on how these people were raised. I've got the feeling that in most households here both parents work so the "kids" don't get raised properly, except on Sunday attending "church" which makes things even worse, because it "indoctrinates" and does not allow analytic thinking.

The nanny or the schools have no clue about the what and how in the world, let alone what the word "social" means. Just learn your writing and American history and how to make money, that is sufficient. The word "culture" is seldom used.

The Trump supporters are an rare breed; on TV etc. if they open their mouth, then they over scream everything which is the truth and is reasonable and "bully" their way to score even if they lie all the time. Strange culture those Trumpers. How do you re-school those types ever?

  • Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Dutch -- You are stereotyping based on the actions of some. I live in a Republican neighborhood. All my neighbors are friendly and helpful. ..good neighbors. They are not the loud, screaming "Jim Jordan" types or like those militia you see on TV. Yet they vote Republican out of tribal loyalty or perhaps greed...or perhaps their Christian ways. They are educated. But it is true that many are also insular in their ways having not been exposed to other cultures.

The purpose of sharing the article is to make the point that there are indeed many psychological reasons for the most avid of Trump supporters to be in his camp. Beyond that there are many one issue voters...and tribalism. When I was canvassing for Obama, I met a young women, solid Democrat in every way, who said she was voting for Romney because of his stance on abortion.

Furthermore, there are many households where both parents work, but still raise their kids to be decent human beings. So I would disagree with the assertion that both parents working don't raise their kids properly. The fact that we have so many liberal progressive Democrats in this country whose views are more global and encompassing is why I am more optimistic about the future than you. You take a broad brush against Americans based on what you see in Trump world. I prefer the Obama-Biden worldview.
