The Republican National Convention starts in four days on Monday, August 24th in Charlotte, except Trump's speech will be from the White House Rose Garden. I went to their website just now and saw this:

    Dear Friends,

Since taking on my role as President and CEO, I have been privileged to lead a team of experienced professionals who understand and take seriously our role to make history as delegates formally re-nominate the President and Vice President of the United States.

The Trump Administration has led us through great challenges and now is ushering in the Great American Comeback. Our country needs President Trump’s leadership for four more years, and the road back to the White House starts with the 2020 Republican National Convention.

I can’t wait to tell you more about what we have in store. For now, thank you for visiting this website and being part of this history-in-the-making. Please continue to check back for updates.

CNN: Trump in overdrive to produce a blockbuster RNC that outshines Dems

Trump doesn't want any taped speeches...wants everything live.

The convention "will capture a presidency and a candidacy built around divisive cultural battles, made-for-television flash and a moth-like attraction to controversy."

The list of speakers includes "Patricia and Mark McCloskey, the St. Louis homeowners who pointed guns at protesters earlier this summer. Kentucky student Nick Sandmann, who was at the center of a viral video controversy during the March for Life rally in Washington last year and later sued major media organizations, including CNN."

"Richard Grenell, the outspoken former intelligence chief and US ambassador to Germany; Nikki Haley, the onetime US ambassador to the United Nations; Andrew Pollack, the father of Parkland shooting victim Meadow Pollack; anti-abortion activist Abby Johnson; South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem and Pennsylvania congressional candidate Sean Parnell will also be among the speakers."

"As will Alice Johnson, a former federal criminal whose life sentence was commuted by Trump at the urging of Kim Kardashian West."

"A slate of lawmakers who have been supportive of Trump, including Sens. Joni Ernst and Tim Scott, will speak on Monday. The themes will be "land of opportunity," "land of promise," "land of heroes" and -- for the night the President speaks -- "land of greatness.""

"Trump's aides were reaching out to potential participants, including a long slate of Americans whose personal stories they believe will resonate with voters. That includes those who have benefited from some of the administration's initiatives, like opportunity zones and school choice, and those who have experienced trauma or suffered in ways the President says he is trying to combat."

"I think probably the biggest thing is the untold stories that will be told next week," White House chief of staff Mark Meadows told reporters aboard Air Force One on Tuesday as Trump returned from a visit to Arizona. "I think that will be the biggest surprises."

From what I've read upto this point, the Republican convention is considered to be political suicide for everybody except Donald Trump. A List and B List of High profile people are "Not Available due to prior commitments". They are having difficulty getting the rights to play pop culture music, and Trump has already been denied a Jet fly over by the Blue Angles and military parade.

Hmmm. If I were a republican of any kind, lawmaker, governor, etc., I'd have to ask myself, "do I really want to be part of daddy's parade?" because if I do, then people will think I'm a trumpy and that might hurt my reelection chances. If I don't, people will think I don't like of daddywolf, and that will risk my reelection chances. Oh damn Jesus, what should I do?

    Stupid republicans.

This morning, the Boston Globe provided the most accurate description of next weeks's convention:

"At the RNC, Trump will offer the strongest case against his re-election".

    https://www.bostonglobe.com/2020/08/21/opinion/rnc-trump-will-offer-strongest-case-against-his-re-election/?p1=HP_Feed_ContentQuery

" Expect a GOP horror show with Trump as the ringleader of what will likely be an ugly spectacle of white grievance and culture wars. That Mark and Patricia McCloskey, the white St. Louis couple who brandished guns at Black Lives Matter protesters, have been invited to speak at the RNC lays bare the path Trump has chosen for the bell lap of his re-election campaign."

"Trump will do nothing at the RNC to address the concerns of his critics, from former First Lady Michelle Obama’s vivisection of his failures to Democratic vice presidential nominee Senator Kamala Harris’s pointed “I know a predator when I see one.” He’ll look only to his base, speaking to those who “like” him, no matter how dangerous or deluded they may be."

" In his anti-immigration rhetoric, Trump has often said, “Without borders, we don’t have a country.” With a second Trump presidency, we won’t have a democracy. In this troubled national moment, a president should allay his country’s fears. Instead, peddling disunity and despair, Trump will magnify his possible re-election as a clear and present threat."

Still no schedule of speakers or other happenings for the RNC. The event starts on Monday though...that's confirmed. We just have to wait a little longer for them to line up and coerce people to participate. Trump will probably claim they have been threatened by Democrats to undermine his convention.

Likewise still no word yet on his proposed fireworks display over the National Mall. His waiting on approval of the Park authorities.

It should be "virtual" but try to keep a narcissist away from a crowd. We will see input from Ted Nugent, Kid Rock, and Scott Baio (sp?) Aka Chachi on Happy Days. Your typical B rate celebs who were something once if you have a good memory.

I plan to watch some with the interest of a carnival side show complete with a barker / conman. Trump will exhibit buffoonery and self adoration. There's never ever been a president like me ! I am the best and the world just loves me.

He will have a few gaffes and will go off script often. It could be fun to watch.

I'll be watching hoping to see a train wreck. I want Trump to start his typical riffing because that is when "Great ideas come to him" spontaneously and he tends to go off the deep end an empty pool.

Expect Trump to make a huge announcement that he hopes will be his next big political hit like "The Great Wall of Trump" was in 2016. Maybe he announce he intends to sell Alaska back to Russia or start mining gold on the moon.

BTW, Scott Baio claims have had sex with 100s and 100s of women (some of questionable legal age) including the late Erin Moran (Joanie Cunningham). Makes sense Trump would love to have such a womanize speaking at the convention on the topic of protecting men's right to sexually harass women and have sex with underage girls.

Well this is Saturday. Their website says the convention starts in 1 day and 18 hours. Still no schedule of events shown on their official website.

There is confusion in the media about lots of stuff -- from the name of the Washington DC site (legally they cannot call that venue the RNC) where some events will be held on US government property close by Trump's hotel, and other events will be held at the White House at government expense and others in Charlotte, North Carolina (the official RNC site) and some maybe virtual from homes.

And Trump is demanding that all speeches be live.

Mitch McConnell at first said he would not attend, but now he will be a speaker somewhere. Trump persuaded him I suppose.

I guess whatever he wants to do at the W.H. will be illegal. He can't use that as an prop for himself and paid for by the taxpayers.

    Comments?

They all knew. There's a great meme on social media that shows 6 or 7 key Republicans saying the Truth about him before they sold out. If I was Mr. Biden I would put it into many commercials because it's them and their own words about their current guy. If you have not seen it, look it up.

SNL should have some fun with this one. The rose garden was already redone by a woman who has proven poor taste.

Washington Post: In secretly recorded audio, President Trump’s sister says he has ‘no principles’ and ‘you can’t trust him’

Much of the material for Mary Trump's book was obtained by secretly recording her aunt Marianne Trump Barry (Trump's sister) over several months in 2018-2019. Mary Trump has turned over 15 hours of the recordings to the Washington Post. You can read about all her damning opinions about her brother in the article...some go deeper than what Mary revealed in her book. A few excerpts:

In a conversation pertaining to Trump's family separation policy at the border, "“All he wants to do is appeal to his base,” Barry said in a conversation secretly recorded by her niece, Mary L. Trump. “He has no principles. None. None. And his base, I mean my God, if you were a religious person, you want to help people. Not do this.”"

"Barry, 83, was aghast at how her 74-year-old brother operated as president. “His goddamned tweet and lying, oh my God,” she said. “I’m talking too freely, but you know. The change of stories. The lack of preparation. The lying. Holy shit.”"

"At one point Barry said to her niece, “It’s the phoniness of it all. It’s the phoniness and this cruelty. Donald is cruel.”"

"Barry told how she tried to help her brother get into college. “He was a brat,” Barry said, explaining that “I did his homework for him” and “I drove him around New York City to try to get him into college.”"

"Then Barry dropped what Mary considered a bombshell: “He went to Fordham for one year [actually two years] and then he got into University of Pennsylvania because he had somebody take the exams.”"

“No way!” Mary responded. “He had somebody take his entrance exams?”

“SATs or whatever. .?.?. That’s what I believe,” Barry said. “I even remember the name.” That person was Joe Shapiro, Barry said.

    =====================================

These are being released by the WP on the eve of the Republican Convention. For his Republican base, like always, they will circle the wagons around the president.

I don't know Doc. Every Saturday i check the tv guide to see if SNL is new but it's always a rerun. I honestly think the current admin. Called Loren Michaels (sp?) and said we don't like you poking fun at our guy. Limit new episodes to a minimum or the IRS will thoroughly audit you and everyone else on your show. I may just be paranoid and probably the pandemic has caused production limitations but with their manipulation it wouldn't surprise me if they took steps to stop the negative (to them) media content. This is the dysfunctional system that we have and that he exploits.
