TG. Sorry I guess you have no clue at all. In Europe they don't hire ex-military in the police, because the training as well qualifications should be totally different. Qualities for the police is having an smooth running society and is much more "mentally" related to its service. The military is is just "follow orders". The police is there to "serve " the people who appoint them to keep an society healthy and criminal free. The standards for the police are determined by selecting people who "care" and treat their "own countries people" with respect and dignity. The mentality in the army is totally different; you learn to shoot, napalm or kill little children for just to "win" the war. I doubt if the police task is to win an "war". The interface with people requires " lots of "mental" training related to human interfaces. For instance as shown on the news how they killed an mentally sick man by putting an plastic bag over his head and choked him. This sadism is what they are allowed to do in the military because it is the "enemy" and no one cares. No TG you disappoint me. The people here are not the enemy.

Who decides who is mentally fit for the job? Yes that should be done with"specialists" in human behavior etc. Do you want to fly an plane with an pilot who only learned to drive an "tank" and "bully's" the passengers or shoots them??

Who decides such? actually the "people" here, who should make sure that they elect people here with brains everywhere in the government as well police forces; not the nutheads which we have now. Also for the police there should be an strict operating manual as well for Presidents , (you can't fly an plane without an operating manual; if you don't stick to it, you will crash) but here in this government as well the police they just fly by the seat of their pants, just let it happen and then we will discuss it for 100 years and do nothing. Even after all these police "murders" the Republican party still does not want changes in the policing here. Bring the barf bucket!

Do you mean to suggest that someone who once served in the military is automatically murderous and could not be retrained to do something else?

That is like suggesting a carpenter could not be retrained to be a roofer.

For one thing...if you want to solve a big problem that exists now, you institute a national database that documents police malfeasance - when an officer is found guilty of some misconduct, it goes into the database so that they cannot simply move to another state and become a cop somewhere else where nobody knows.

That you suggest someone is unqualified for a job, just because they were once in the military is a slippery slope for things like...anyone transgender, being inherently a child molester, is not suited to ever be a caregiver for children. Of course, that is total bullshit...but if you could do this with military/police, then why not transgender/childcare...or any other possible combination you could think of....it is a fucking slippery slope that I for one would not want to see us step onto.

I like and respect you, but I am shocked and dismayed by this attitude you have towards veterans of the armed services.

I guess you don't get it. In the military you are "indoctrinated" all the way which remains stuck in their heads, because you have to be obedient and are dictated what to do. ( The police should "think" for themselves in any situation instead of being dictated). If you are one of the subdued "ants" who are ordered to kill people who you never met or know, just because an "dictator" says so, that will stick in their heads. I have no dismay related to veterans themselves; but they never should be hired by the police. I do dismay the "leaders" who sent them to our useless wars. At least with Vietnam the people arose and demonstrated against our war mongers; none of the wars fought by this country since WWII improved anything on this globe or this country. Fighting "wars" is not an job for the "police" here; the training and indoctrination in the army is absolutely not suited for any police force, it is an total other animal.

I guess you don't get the picture. Like I said the "mentality" in the army is not suited for the "mentality" as it should be for the "police". I was once stopped by the "police" here; the guy was an typical army trained "bully" without any manners. In Europe they say at at least : Hi, how are you doing today with an smile. But yeah they will never learn in this country. Just watch your TV and see how the people here are treated by these ex-military bully's; they rather kill you than write an ticket.

By the way my neighbor was an policeman; had these discussions with him; if the "leadership" in the police is also ex-army,then you can guess what goes wrong. Amen

Oh this is so much bullshit.
Look, I am transgender, as you know...and as such, I, too, have reason to fear that the police may not treat me fairly.

I have never, here in North Carolina...had one negative encounter with a police officer...be it Raleigh, Wake County, Wendell or Knightdale (never had any encounter with Zebulon) - even the encounter in Knightdale...was for a well-deserved speeding ticket. And the officer was courteous, professional and fair.

JUST BECAUSE someone was in the armed services...it does not disqualify them from police careers later....anyone could be trained. Obviously, you weed out the ones with personality problems not conducive to policing...but to make a broad statement that nobody who was in the armed services can make a decent, fair police officer...is a bridge I will not cross with you.

You're absolutely correct Dutch about republicans, when we hear what Barr said recently, he mirrors those comments spoken and in actions by other republicans. Where else can a 17 year old punk cross a state line, mow down 3 people, kill two and be defended by political leaders saying the punk was defending himself from people who were trying to stop him?

You have to watch this video in the link below to get the gist of what republican leaders of my community are saying about this 17 year old punk. And it's just not what they're saying in Kenosha, it's what all republicans think about BLM nationwide.

    therecount.com/wire/kenosha-county-gop-...

Today, I signed a petition to recall Erin Decker over her refusal to listen to people who went to a town hall meeting with county leaders.

In the video clip, she says that 80 percent of the people support what this "17 year old punk" did. If true, I find that astounding.

It's true Schmidt, she said 80%. I wonder if she was referring to republicans, or the population in general in my area. If she was referring to the latter, it just shows by her statement how out of touch she really is. But this should not shock or surprise anyone because the entire republican party along with their constituents are out of touch. She's also the one who turned her back during the common council meeting which was supposed to address citizens' concerns about policing in Kenosha County.

BTW, she and her husband are local business owners, I found out yesterday that I had taken my truck to their shop for service about a month ago, on the door was a sign mandating all patrons must wear masks, I did, but noticed that the employees, possibly her husband who runs the joint were not. So they are hypocrites for sure. Had I known at that time who the business owners were, I would not have gone there. I also found a web page somewhere where she touts she is for taking away military type equipment owned by local police departments, I find that very hard to believe.

Sounds to my ears like the sort of politician who says what is politically expedient and correct...even if they do not believe it or support it...and do not follow it themselves. Sorta like Lindsey Graham. For that matter, I place both of my Senators, Thom Tillis and Richard Burr in that same category.

Kenosha just went dark again yesterday, sheriff's department/s endorsed Brian Steil (R) for reelection of Wisconsin's first district. We're going the wrong way folks. This community is not interested in healing wounds suffered by a cop who shot a black guy in the back 7 fucking times, instead, they're going along with this law and order bullshit. Steil's recently televised campaign ad said he would not defund police, which means white supremacists might be running our local PD's. Nobody in this community ever called for defunding the police departments, Steil is engaging in dog whistle politics.

If cops would have done their jobs properly, Kenosha would not have burned, and there would've been no demonstrations. In the future, watch for militarized war pigs beat down citizens with all their precious toys available!

Me thinks police departments should steer clear of endorsing any candidate running for any office because when doing so, it'll end up biting them on their asses. Mayor Richard J. Daley found that out when he ordered his cops to shoot to maim, shoot to kill.

I am pissed off and actively looking for somewhere else to live. This place sucks. Kenosha sucks.

Dock the problem starts at the W.H. Since the "new Hitler" sits there, then his dumb ass followers just copy him and do what he does. Just look at his "rally's" that says enough. I fear that things sooner get worse than better, especially now the "election" of an"new" Judge has thrown another wrench into the mess. Looking at all the news and the weak approach of the Dem's, things look depressing at least. So where do you want to move to? I would not know an good place here without "politics" But just hang in there and keep writing; good work!!!

Well....as a native Chicagoan by birth who is used to banging on Wisconsin...I won't argue that with ya. :-)

But in all seriousness...I THOUGHT Southeastern Wisconsin....was more liberal than this?? For real...what am I missing?

I THOUGHT...that if you drop a 45 degree angle line southwest from Milwaukee to the Illinois line, thus incorporating Madison...that whole area thus defined was actually pretty damned liberal!

I dunno...you still have one of the best Senators in the country in Tammy Baldwin there.

I think the problem here with the cops is the language of "defund the police." NOBODY is saying they should lose all funding...just the extra funding that allows them to buy all those deadly toys they then turn on the citizenry. At the same time, it also says...take way from police responsibility...thing they are not trained for...and use the money savings to hire people who ARE trained to deal with those situations, e.g mental health crises, domestic disputes, etc. And leave police to uphold the actual law.

Police are good enforcers. They aren't good peacekeepers.

I am sorry there are lingering negative issues. I agree that so many things are done wrong with the police. It's not a master tool to fix all problems. We need a national dialogue to discuss areas that need improvement. Call an emergency squad if it's a mental health issue.

Instead of defunding the police, the approach should say we don't want all cops to be responsible for 1000 things. Instead be responsible for 400 things and someone else can get the cat out of a tree.

If you're going to move, follow your hearts. Being close to family is important to me but there's many factors to consider. Oregon seems like a good place except for Portland because of rioting. Avoid forest fires too. Blue state will weigh into my future choices.

Like I said; as long as the "hiring" and "training" is not done such way as to being an"priority to "protect" our "people" from an society filled with "crooks" and "guns", but has become "political" and gets "army style training" and "equipment", then forget that any society can sleep at night. The approach is totally wrong as I mentioned many times.

But at least Trump was protected with the "bible" in his hand. Halejuja!

For TG, yes, what you say is true, SE cheddarland used to be very, or highly liberal, but ever since Scott Walker and the other jerk got the taste of blood for democrat's heads, SE Wisconsin has turned into a very conservative or hard right area.

I'm just so, so sick of it, that's why I'm actively looking for a place to go. Perhaps off the grid back to New Mexico? We spent 5 years there and never experienced hard right morons there. Every-other person you met was of Mexican descent, half spoke Spanish or broken English, and almost none liked republicans. Here's some pics I took when we lived out there.

I'm looking for a travel trailer every day now.

I'm looking for a travel trailer every day now.

When I last moved, in 2014...I was torn between North Carolina....and New Mexico. Specifically, I had planned to move to Albuquerque.

But mom wanted to be closer to her son (the brother that, to me, is dead...and for good reasons I won't divulge here) so we ended up in North Carolina.

Then the silly bastard went and moved to Texas.

Not sorry I came here...it's been interesting and a very fertile ground for the sort of fight I have basically thrived on for twenty five years...but I am FINALLY getting exhausted.
