Ignorance of reality spinning US toward economic doom. Why is UBI which will never elevate masses to a living wage have more of an appeal than using similar legislative tools to create prosperity through employment. Why are privatization and rugged self determination individualism the poster examples of success?
The reality is limited numbers of success are purported to be the rewards of self determination and hard work. If privatization had existed as the only source of recovery through the Great Depression then the US today would be the largest 3rd world country. Don’t forget that privatization and deregulation brought the 29 crash and depression. There are numerous social solutions to problems that helped create a prosperous country.

Significant socialization of a problem, Rural electrification was FDR moving toward a National Electric Grid. Subsequently developing agriculture and rural businesses.

UBI is a nice dividend but the country would fair a lot better if the tax code addressed supporting businesses making products to sell. Both Bernie and Biden were lacking in good paying living wage solutions. Law making $15/hour wouldn’t hurt but laws directing loans and funds to existing and creating new jobs making products to sell are the answer.

Manufacturing Jobs Are Never Coming Back

That is only because money is hoarded out of the economy to make finesse trading billionaires.

A UBI would certainly be more beneficial than "prosperity through employment" measures during a pandemic that has shut the entire country down. It's kinda hard to have economic prosperity when everyone is hunkering down at home. But why can't we have both in the long run?

I think we have two monumental issues that we are dealing with at the same time here.

One is "the machines are coming" whether we want to admit it or not. Actually, "the machines are already here" is probably a better way to look at it. Machines can do the work of 1,000 people in a fraction of the time. Machines don't take lunch breaks, weekends off, or vacation time. They don't get hurt on the job, can't sue for wrongful termination, or quit and move on to bigger and better things. Manufacturing is thriving in the United States. It's just being done by robots and not humans.

The other is this pandemic has taught us that people already have jobs. Unfortunately those jobs are in the countless small businesses selling niche items, the restaurant and greater service industry selling us our favorite food and booze, and other "service" jobs that cater to peoples everyday whims. They are already employed and getting by in life in the best way they can.

A UBI would certainly help those people a hell of a lot right now. As would a living wage, but that's an entirely different subject for when the pandemic is over and people can actually work again.

Taking about "ignorance and "self promotion" is getting crazier by the day; this guy has got an total inferiority complex. Also the "money" is not HIS; it is the "peoples" money held by the treasury.

Read the following then your hair is on fire!

April 14--Corona virus stimulus checks across the country may be delayed after the Treasury Department ordered President Trump’s name to be added to them, the Washington Post reported.

It’s the first time any president’s name will appear on checks mailed directly to Americans, according to the Post. Because of the late-stage change, the checks will be delayed a few days, IRS officials said.

The $1,200 checks will say “President Donald J. Trump” on the left side in the memo section, the Post reported.

“It’s absolutely unprecedented,” Nina Olson, an 18-year IRS vet who stepped down last year, told the Post of putting a president’s name on the checks.

Treasury Department officials told the Post there would be no delay.

Trump had previously asked Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin to let him personally sign the checks, the Post reported. But with laws against such a signature, his name was shifted to the memo section. A civil servant will sign instead.

The checks will be delayed because computer code must now be changed to add Trump’s name, IRS officials told the Post. They said the short delay at the beginning would likely have longer-term effects, too.

For lower-income Americans, the checks are the centerpiece of the $2 trillion stimulus package passed earlier this month to combat the economic impact of COVID-19.

Around 26,000 Americans have died from the disease of late Tuesday night, according to data compiled by Johns Hopkins.

Talking about "ignorance", Trump has withheld funds for the WHO (health org). Before he also left the WTO ( trade org.)

The idiot is forgetting that this organization is an "worldwide" organization which deals with all kind of "health issues" WORLDWIDE and not is there for the US alone. For instance it dealt with the "Ebola" crisis in Africa etc. Trump always acts like the world around him does not exists. He belongs in an straight-jacket.

In the field of "ignorance" then Trump is the champion. He got his "minions" (Hitler Jugend) so far to demonstrate against "separation" and strict discipline of the "stay at home" rule. Of course in the "red" States.

Even the "butt crawling" idiot DeSantis declared that "wrestling" is an "essential" something in this situation.

How come that the Trump Party members have sawdust in their brains? Is it the weather or something from "outer space" which handicaps them?

Sorry people this country is going to "hell". Amen

Absolutely the best, easiest, logical and comprehensive solution. First step is to uncover “Life Styles of the Rich and Famous” as an insult. Second is to define and enforce money as a resource and enforce that by velocity and other laws promoting circulation. Enforcing laws and efforts to protect the environment to promote and continue life on earth should also apply to money. Ensuring that money stays in the economy of trading for goods and services is just as important to protect life on earth as is having clean air to breathe. Continuing along the same trajectory of money being controlled by fewer people it is more likely that people will starve to death before the choke to death from contaminated air. What sense does it make to protect the air they breathe while they starve to death.

“during a pandemic that has shut the entire country down”

It will be over exposing problems that need to be socialized.

The Intellectualist: Noam Chomsky, April 5, 2018: The Republican Party Is The Most Dangerous Organization In History

Chomsky made that statement two years ago:

"There’s been nothing like this in history. It’s kind of an outrageous statement, but it happens to be true, that the Republican Party is the most dangerous organization in human history. Nobody, not even the Nazis, was dedicated to destroying the possibility of organized human life. It’s just missing from the media. In fact, if you read, say, the sensible business press, the Financial Times, Businessweek, any of them, when they talk about fossil fuel production, the articles are all just about the prospect for profit. Is the U.S. moving to number one and what are the gains? Not that it’s going to wipe out organized human life. Maybe that’s a footnote somewhere. It’s pretty astonishing."

    ======================================================

The Republican Party is mixture of the wealthy, the religious, the military and the "ignorant", but the real power is primarily with those controlling money...he who owns the "gold" makes the rules. Oh and that includes the rich mega churches.

In the two years since Chomsky wrote his article Trump has been impeached by the House amongst other offenses, but the Republicans in the Senate (except Romney) have shown absolute loyalty to their leader in acquitting him of all charges. That may indeed make the Republican party the "most dangerous in history". I suppose their latest act of attacking the stay-at-homers and doctors will solidify that label when history is finally written.

So absolutely true!!! But yeah Hitler number two is in that regard "smart". He knows on how to manipulate the "dumb" people in this country. However I'm sorry to say that there are way too many of them, who lack brains or were never "educated" in life or how an government ought to work. The "island" mentality drives a lot of this horrible thinking.

Therefore I fear that the "virus" debacle will need lots of time to get something decent in the brains here.

The Republican Party (Actually the Trump "culture" Party) will continue to ruin this country except themselves; they will use every opportunity to enrich themselves, even over dead bodies.
