First step. My wife’s twitter account just got suspended for 11 hours. I’ve been saying for years “He is dangerous”. Next Marshall Law and suspend elections .

It's a pretty big leap going from a private company choosing what to allow on their privately owned platform to suggesting the next logical step is martial law.

As I've pointed out before, we don't have nearly enough active duty and reserve soldiers to impose martial law on a national scale. We'd devolve into anarchy overnight if Donald tried such a crazy thing.

History also shows us that societies stay largely intact during periods of pandemic and plague. It's difficult to start a revolution when no one knows who is and isn't sick. Can you also imagine how silly people would look standing six feet apart as they attempt to overrun the White House?

If anything, plagues have done the opposite and helped to quell bubbling revolutions throughout world history.

I agree the elections are a concern. A major move to allow and insist on voting by mail is necessary. I worry about corruption derailing that is far more likely. The word of the day is Landslide.

On this, I agree. We should be far more worried about a free and fair election come November than having martial law declared.

Republicans can very easily use this crisis to steal not only the Presidential election, but numerous House, Senate, and state house elections to boot. I can see a number of scenarios playing out across the country where Republican governors move to make voting all but impossible and then move to use emergency powers to basically award their states electoral college votes to Donald. That's why we have to start preparing for the worst-case scenario now.

The answer is simple - nationwide vote-by-mail. Unfortunately, Republicans would never allow that because they know they'd lose in a landslide if it were that easy to vote.

Don't we already have a national system in place that could handle this? Absentee voting.

With proper planning, it could be expanded to handle millions more than normal. I won't suggest how, just that its reasonably possible.

We dropped off our absentee ballots the other day. I am worried that not enough people will participate when November rolls around and that the mob boss will easily win.

Pelosi already tried to put the "vote by mail" in the first package; the Republicans rejected this. She will try it again . However Trump will reject it as before, because if approved then he will loose in November. He will use every trick he can think of to stop the Democrats.

Yes. Said Trumps threat to pull FCC license for criticism was a fascist threat.

Marshal Law is only dependent on Trump. He has a 62,000,000 member army.

Jared may be right; however hard times are at the horizon due to the naive way this country is run. The "system" is the cause of that things will go awfully wrong, because no one dares to correct its faults in it.

Sorry people the Constitution is like having an antique millstone around your neck. Either update it, or replace it is the only solution. Make it an "detailed" up to date "living" document; scrap the "case law" system. Design an mandatory "operating manual" for Presidents and other top positions in the government. Revamp the election "system" where only votes counts, without "money" and "tricks" and donations of all kinds.

But yeah as some members said; this never will happen because all the zillion "crooks" here would loose their influence peddling "jobs" and "ripped of" money.

Thus just "muddle on" and await the next disaster and keep electing "mafia" types. Jesus, will be proud of this country and certainly will donate 100 trillion dollars via his bank account on Mars! Crying Thus keep praying for that.

Yea, I'm terrified that a 80 year old retiree from Florida will come out to Portland and overthrow our city and state government...

Not necessarily. Many states, including vital swing states and numerous solidly blue states have really strict rules on absentee voting. Only three states (the great state of Oregon being one of them) do all voting by mail.

It's certainly possible for all 50 states to pass a vote-by-mail or "no-excuse" absentee voting. Unfortunately, Republicans know they lose when more people vote so it will be very difficult to convince many states to actually do something to ensure their citizens will be able to vote.

Yes, very hard times are on the horizon. How we handle them will determine the trajectory of our country for years to come. I have no doubt about that.

I share many of your concerns about the Constitution and religious right, but the best Constitution in the world and a truly secular state wouldn't prevent pandemics from happening. Pandemics have happened throughout the millennia and will happen for millennia to come.

How we handle pandemics is the only thing we can control. When it comes to that, I actually have some hope. Science, not Jesus, will put this virus in its place.

How many people die before that is really up to each of us. Extreme social distancing is pretty much the only thing we can do for the time being. As Tom Hanks said, "Sheltering in place works like this: You don't give it to anyone — You don't get it from anyone. Common sense, no?"

They bumped her for that? Trump has written worse than that, and he didn't get the axe.
