    Dock:

My wife's sister is a devout Catholic. Up until recently, she went to church every Sunday and religious holiday, and she prays the rosary every day.

Out of the blue, she sent me the email below to me this morning:

    " I received this from a special friend ...

In three short months, just like He did with the plagues of Egypt, God has taken away everything we worship. God said, "you want to worship athletes, I will shut down the stadiums. You want to worship musicians, I will shut down Civic Centers. You want to worship actors, I will shut down theaters. You want to worship money, I will shut down the economy and collapse the stock market. You don't want to go to church and worship Me, I will make it where you can't go to church"

"If my people who are called by my name will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land."

Maybe we don't need a vaccine, Maybe we need to take this time of isolation from the distractions of the world and have a personal revival where we focus on the ONLY thing in the world that really matters. Jesus."

There is no point in sending a response back, so I'll just ignore it for now.

On a related note , the CEO of My Pillow, Mike Lindell, spoke the other day at the White House coronavirus briefing>

My Pillow’s Mike Lindell gave Trump a $100,000 donation, so he was allowed to speak at the coronavirus briefing where he claimed that God put Trump in office.

Lindell said, “God gave us grace on November 8th, 2016 to change the course we were on. God had been taken out of our schools and lives. A nation has turned its back on God. I encourage you to use this time at home to get back in the word. Read our Bibles and spend time with our families. Our president gave us so much hope where just a few short months ago we had the best economy, the lowest unemployment and wages going up. It was amazing. With our great president, vice president, and this administration, and the great people in this country praying daily, we will get through this and get back to a place that is stronger and safer than ever.”

An alternative Christian view of Trump and the coronavirus is that God is punishing the United States for putting Trump in office. Trump isn’t a blessing from God. From this perspective, he is a curse.

    ************************************

Lindell was born on June 28, 1961, in Mankato, Minnesota, and was raised in Chaska and Carver, Minnesota.

Prior to inventing MyPillow, Lindell launched and operated a number of small businesses including carpet cleaning, lunch wagons, and a few bars and restaurants in Carver County, Minnesota. In the 1980s and 1990s, Lindell became addicted to cocaine, crack cocaine, and alcohol. His addiction loomed so large, that his house would be foreclosed and his wife filed for divorce. Lindell stated that he achieved sobriety through prayer in 2009, and since then, he has been clean.

Lindell invented the MyPillow pillow in 2004 and grew the business into a major Minnesota manufacturing company.

In March 2017, Lindell produced The Mike Lindell Story: An American Dream, a documentary about Lindell overcoming drug addiction and building a multi-million-dollar business. The documentary was shot in Minneapolis, Minnesota at the Pantages Theatre.

On August 21, 2019, Lindell was presented with an honorary Doctor of Business from Liberty University

So, I understand that Mr. Lindell "got religion" and got cured, but what religious people fail to understand is that not everyone agrees that religion is the answer to their problems.

For perspective, consider what Hunter S. Thompson once said:

"I hate to advocate drugs, alcohol, violence, or insanity to anyone, but they've always worked for me."

Again this shows that brains are not needed in this country; because if you make an pillow then you must be super intelligent. Trump likes to have dumb ignorant people around him at least he got some free pillows plus money.

Katherine Stewart, New York Times, March 27, 2020: The Religious Right’s Hostility to Science Is Crippling Our Coronavirus Response

Stewart's article is worth reading, but I'll highlight a few things that caught my eye that you might not be aware of.

Guillermo Maldonado, who calls himself an “apostle” and hosted Mr. Trump at a campaign event at his Miami megachurch, urged his congregants to show up for worship services in person. “Do you believe God would bring his people to his house to be contagious with the virus? Of course not,” he said."

Rodney Howard-Browne of The River at Tampa Bay Church in Florida mocked people concerned about the disease as “pansies” and insisted he would only shutter the doors to his packed church “when the rapture is taking place.”

Tony Spell, a pastor in Louisiana, said, “We’re also going to pass out anointed handkerchiefs to people who may have a fear, who may have a sickness and we believe that when those anointed handkerchiefs go, that healing virtue is going to go on them as well.”

In an interview on “Fox & Friends,” Jerry Falwell Jr., the president of Liberty University, called the response to Coronavirus “hype” and “overreacting.” “You know, impeachment didn’t work, and the Mueller report didn’t work, and Article 25 didn’t work, and so maybe now this is their next, ah, their next attempt to get Trump,” he said.

When Rev. Spell in Louisiana defied an order from Gov. John Bel Edwards and hosted in-person services for over 1,000 congregants, he asserted the ban was “politically motivated.”

Anti-L.G.B.T. activist Steve Hotze added to the chorus, denouncing the concern as “fake news.”

Alex Azar, secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services who has had a prominent role in mismanaging the crisis has rebranded his department as the “Department of Life.”

Azar also established a division of Conscience and Religious Freedom, designed to permit health care providers to deny legal and often medically indicated health care services to certain patients as a matter of religious conscience.

Ken Blackwell of the Family Research Council, has cast food stamps and other forms of government assistance for essential services as contrary to the “biblical model.” Limited government, according to this line of thinking, is “godly government.”

    ======================================

Okay the above were from Stewart's well written article. She provides anecdotal evidence of the theme of her article of how the "science denialism of his ultraconservative religious allies" in the Republican Party have so influenced Trump to go slow on the coronavirus that the USA is perhaps now the least prepared country in the world. When Trump brags that holding the deaths to perhaps 100,000 to 200,000 is a form of personal victory for him, it just blows my mind. It could have been perhaps just a few thousands if he had acted quickly at the same time the South Koreans were acting in a big way.

Then there is Florida...I won't go there.

CNN just said that as of tomorrow Florida will join the states on a lockdown. When DeSantis was asked why it wasn't previously he said Washington DC hasn't said that it should be. We don't have a Governor, we have an obedient puppet.

Anyway...the greatest threat to America may come from within the Republican Party and the far right religious faction (evangelicals mainly) that wants to turn us into a Christian theocracy where the Bible trumps the Constitution.

Chris Hedges, TruthDig, January 3, 2020: Onward, Christian fascists

"Tens of millions of Americans live hermetically sealed inside the vast media and educational edifice controlled by Christian fascists. In this world, miracles are real, Satan, allied with secular humanists and Muslims, is seeking to destroy America, and Trump is God’s anointed vessel to build the Christian nation and cement into place a government that instills “biblical values.” These “biblical values” include banning abortion, protecting the traditional family, turning the Ten Commandments into secular law, crushing “infidels,” especially Muslims, indoctrinating children in schools with “biblical” teachings and thwarting sexual license, which includes any sexual relationship other than in a marriage between a man and a woman. Trump is routinely compared by evangelical leaders to the biblical king Cyrus, who rebuilt the temple in Jerusalem and restored the Jews to the city."

    There's more. Read his article.

Yes Lonely absolutely correct; Schmidt also gave the excellent correct response. This country is loosing its identity fast, especially in the caring for others. The "evangelicals" are the cause of the turmoil in the middle east and light the fire . Thanks to the Trump family. Mostly all the Republican Presidents are the culprits who kept the fire going and started the wars there because of the "holy brainless "religious" fanatics.

The greatest threat to this country will be the repeat of the past. Things which are happen now are an mirror reflection of the 1930's , the only difference being that it was an "virus' which did it for the most part.. The crash of the 1930's was similar to today's, also all of a sudden; it led to WWII. Indeed Trump is an copy of Hitler in many ways. He is an "white" superior supporter; Hitler the same. He also wants to built up the army; Hitler the same. Hitler wanted to become an priest; Trump is promoted by the "evangelicals" as the next Jesus. The only thing different is that Hitler had an dog. Trump has only himself who he loves. Also Trump has Miller; Hitler had Himmler both have the same qualities; the same comparison as Goering and Pompeo. Excellent "job" America. Heil Hitler.

How about this from George Conway's Lincoln Project as another threat to America...

    Schmidt:

    GREAT AD!!

Another great "threat" is that Trump thinks that all the medical supplies are "his" as well all our "tax" money; he will determine to "sell" it to the highest bidder. He also thinks the "wall" is his ( he actually put an plaque with his name on it) He furthermore thinks "everyone" can be bought or fired if not "loyal" to him. As well that he knows more about medicines and "virusses" than the experts. Let alone international politics and trade; he alone can do it with buddy Putin. If "Jesus" did sent him, then "Jesus" must be about as stupid as he his. ( But yeah "dust" has no brains, neither Trump has any)

Thus one of the greatest threats to this country is this guy and his obedient followers. Just about the same as the Guyana "cult" (until "death" us part).
