Yes attacking Trump has the effect on the Trump supporters becoming even more tenacious in their support for him. It's like an attack on Trump is an indirect attack on the Trump voter. People's nature is to dig their heels in and push back. That's what Trump likes. He cannot win a debate on the issues (except perhaps the economy), so it has to be the gutter politics that he is so very good at and that his base loves.
Trump might choose to not debate any Democrats at all, calling the process "rigged". He is always playing the victim. Some of the Democrats (not all) would debate him quite well...others not so depending on how they respond to his vilification and name calling on the debate stage. Facts do not matter one iota to the Trump supporters...just that their man appears as the tough guy and his opponent is made to appear weak.

Schmidt:
Trying to convince Trump supporters with fact or reason simply won't work. If they believe in facts or reason, they would not be Trump supporters in the first place. Some of them actually believe that Trump was sent by God, or that he is the most biblical president in our nation's history.
There IS a way to get along with these people, though, and the Parody Project explains how:

If you need further proof that Trump supporters are crazy, consider this:
According to a new report by TMZ, CBS has hired full-time security for Leslie Stahl of “60 Minutes.” The security was hired after a family member of Stahl’s received a death threat over Stahl’s recent interview with Donald Trump. On Thursday, an unidentified individual called Stahl’s home just hours before Trump released an edited version of the interview on social media. The suspect threatened Stahl and her family and said something about “neo-Nazi’s” TMZ reported.

I just wonder if indeed 40% of the population is crazy because of the "education", "churches" and "media" here which makes them "crazy". So do something about those institutions, may be that will help. Certainly don't let "church" stupidity dictate on how to "live". Separation of "church" and "State" should be a must.
Always find the "source" that will help too. It shows lack of common sense here what drives it, because of lack of uniformity in anything in this country. It is time to "elect" proper "educated" people in the government who are "qualified" to do their job. (not just loyalists)
As well promote "uniformity" in government affairs throughout this country. Like "elections" and "healthcare" and "education" etc.
