To quote Schmidt:
"So the Ukraine affair had the best chance of achieving some kind of success relatively quickly. And consider this...even if the Senate acquits him, Trump is essentially a lame duck president. Schiff and his team have all but destroyed him, no matter how much he blusters about being exonerated. Trump's history as a despot has been written for him, essentially "etched in stone" for historians to discuss forever. What he does in the remaining months of his presidency will be judged as a tarnished lame duck president."
Democratic impeachment managers presented a comprehensive, masterful, and compelling argument that Trump abused his power by pressuring Ukraine for his own personal gain. Democrats utilized slideshow and video clips from previous testimony of current and former administration officials, as well as quotes from Trump and Sen. Lindsey Graham. Republicans responded by complaining that they were bored. In fact, 21 GOP senators left the room entirely for several hours, demonstrating a clear lack of respect for the hearings.
CBS News reports that Senators have been warned by Trump team: “Vote against the president, and your head will be on a pike".
White House legislative affairs director Eric Ueland appears to be seeking revenge or at least looking forward to observing it, over Trump’s Senate impeachment trial. Bloomberg reporter Daniel Flatley tweeted that Ueland walked past a group of reporters at the Capitol and said, “I can’t wait for revenge.”
It's a foregone conclusion that Trump is gong to be acquitted by the senate. However, I'm of the opinion that every senator that votes to acquit him, and Trump himself, is gong to get enough negative publicity that it is LIKELY that the Democrats will regain control of the senate, expand their majority in the house, and regain the White House.
