Donald Trump has held 85 rallies since being elected president. Nine of them were held after he was elected on November 8, 2016 but before he was sworn in as President on January 20, 2017. These first nine he called "Victory Rallies". But starting in February 2017 he has been holding rallies continually until now. Five have been held in this month of November alone, 12 months before the next election.
None of the rallies seem to have anything of importance. They are largely held to feed Trump's ego as the attendees are carefully selected to provide loud and boisterous accolades to Trump as he provides a self congratulatory monologue of lies and distortions about his accomplishments as president while also vilifying anyone who at the time might have crossed him...Adam Schiff for example.
He has made zero attempts to broaden his base to appeal to the entire electorate. No -- his rallies, speeches and tweets are designed to appeal to only his rabid base and no one else. It his base that he is counting on to re-elect him in 2020 in huge numbers while Democrats are divided on ideology and are applying purity tests in earnest to disqualify just about everyone.
For example, many of the die hard Bernie crowd -- the 12 percent who crossed over and voted for Trump in 2016 -- are ready to do that again. They have not seen the "error of their ways" in voting for Trump in 2016 but rather blame Hillary for inciting them to do so. They hate Elizabeth Warren as much as they hated Hillary. Unless Democrats select Bernie in 2020, many of them will stay away or remain hitched to the Trump bandwagon.
Bernie rallies in that respect are not all that different from Trump rallies. They feed Bernie's ego, but Bernie's message is the same as it was in 2016 appealing to a narrow base for a "socialist revolution". No compromises. The Bernie way or the highway.
Anyway getting back to the topic of Trump rallies. If Trump's not attending rallies, he is golfing or tweeting or watching Fox News or maybe hosting a foreign leader to brag and lie again about his accomplishments. When does he have time to do the day-to-day job of the presidency? Oh maybe that's senior advisor Jared Kushner's job now...from Middle East peace broker to wall builder.
Just ranting on Good Friday. No need to comment. You know it all too well. I'm preaching to the choir. But did you count 85 rallies?
