Trump seems to have connections to LOTS of sleazy characters, and Jeffrey Epstein is simply the latest. Details of his slimy past are well known, but his story has a couple of interesting twists:
(1) Trump's Labor Secretary, Alexander Acosta, was instrumental in getting Epstein a reduced sentence for his sexual adventures in Florida in 2007. As a result, Democrats in Congress are now calling for his resignation. Trump, naturally, thinks that Acosta has been “a superb secretary of labor” and that he “feels badly” in regards to the criticism he’s dealing with. He additionally mentioned he’ll look “very fastidiously” on the plea deal, which he mentioned was “a very long time in the past” and was a call made “by lots of people” along with Acosta.

(2) In the category of "you just can't make this stuff up", a strip club will be hosting a golf tournament at a Trump property in South Florida in the near future. The Trump name and crest are prominently displayed on advertising, which touts a "caddy girl of your choice".
In 2002, this is what Trump said about Epstein: "I've known Jeff for fifteen years. Terrific guy. He's a lot of fun to be with. It is even said that he likes beautiful women as much as I do, and many of them are on the younger side."

Epstein has been a registered sex offender since 2008. Epstein was sentenced to 18 months in prison but instead of being sent to state prison like most sex offenders convicted in Florida, he was housed in a private wing of the Palm Beach County stockade in a controversial plea deal with the state’s attorney general. (Acosta was appointed U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Florida in 2005, Although he actually did some good things, his handling of Epstein seems questionable):

In April 2016, a federal lawsuit filed in California against Epstein and Trump by a California woman alleged both men sexually assaulted her when she was 13 years old at a number of parties at Epstein's Manhattan home in 1994. The suit was dismissed by a federal judge in May 2016, however.
This woman filed a third suit against both Epstein and Trump in September 2016 but dropped the lawsuit in November after receiving death threats. Trump was by then running as the Republican Party’s candidate for president of the United States.
Epstein has been a frequent guest at Mar-A-Lago, and there are allegations that women were recruited into prostitution from this location.
